Units, planes, bases , date of transfer, etc. Just a few lines. I´ll preciate any info, including Germans and Soviets in this case. Thanks.

Since June 1942 the 22nd Gruppo Caccia Terrestri (Fighter Group Terrestrials) replaced the 21st with the Italian ARMIR in Russia.

It was composed of 4 squadriglia (squadrons):
356.a sq. (the only represented IL2)
382.a sq.
361.a sq.
386.a sq.
Approximately 50 fighters Macchi MC200 Saetta
From September 1942 came even 12 Macchi MC202 Folgore.
And furthermore:
71 ° Group aerial observation
38.a sq.
116.a sq.
equipped with Caproni Ca311 and Fiat BR20 (since August 42)

Transport units:
245.a sq.
246.a sq.
Transport SM81 and Caproni Ca133

During the battle of Stalingrad Italians have no more than 50 planes efficient for day.

The January 17, 1943, just before to suspend all activities for lack of spare parts, fuel and ammunition, the italian fighters Italian after months of intense activity on the front of Stalingrad, had still 30-MC200 and 9 MC202 (of a total of 12 from septemper !) efficient, demonstrating the value of pilots and a positive result in combat ratio against the overwhelming superiority of VVS.

The area where the italian troops (ARMIR) were operating from August 42 to January 43, was 270 km long. NW of Stalingrad (between Stalingrad and Voronez), along the right bank of the Don, from Vescenskaya to Bielogorje.
The main bases were probably Rossosc, Nikolajevka and Kantemirovka (but do not believe they are covered by existing maps IL2).
The transport aircraft in January 43 by acting Stalino.
Then all ripiegarono Odessa on until March 43 before returning to Italy.
Ciao,
Stebas

Only saw this now. Apart from the Italians there were only the Romanians who took part in the aerial operations over Stalingrad (with the Axis forces, that is). The spanish fighter squadron - 15.(span)./JG 51 - was operating in the central combat zone and the Slovaks - 13.(slow)/JG 52 - and Croats - 15.(kroat)/JG 52 - were flying over the Black Sea coast far to the south.
The romanian air corps appeared only in September and was relying on outdated material. (composition see here -> http://www.worldwar2.ro/arr/?article=428 ).

A quick glance into Black Cross - Red Star 3 shows no further "international participation" at Stalingrad. There were some Spaniards with the VVS, but they were apparently in the central combat zone, too. The French GC "Normandie" (the later Normandie-Niemen) came to the front in 1943 only, a long time after Stalingrad, and operated over the central combat zone, too.

Concerning both the italian and romanian efforts it must be said that both were seriously handicapped by serviceability issues, lack of fuel and their mostly outdated aircraft types. Especially the italians suffered badly on the Eastern Front and their german allies were of no great help, either. For example the Stuka flyers of StG 2 bitterly complained about the italian escort when they operated against soviet forces in the Don bend.

Yeah, I can imagine. It was hard to get hold of it here in Germany. Mr. Bergström should really do something about his publisher ...
