Wow, a year after launch, and multiplayer still popular. Literally thousands of unique players have played in the wgc servers the past few months:
http://www.waikikigunclub.com/wgc_Leaderboards.php

(At the time of writing we have 9994 unique players since the first week of July when we started keeping logs of it.)

We're way past 400 k map downloads: http://www.waikikigunclub.com/wgc_Map_Stats.php

So please please please please pretty please Ubi: A patch...? (Some of us have loads of ideas for simple stuff to add/fix.)

Oh, and the FC2 login server's down again.

The game is dying quick, the last hope for us are the euro servers cus all the American clans pretty much left FC2, now the euro servers are dying slowly. When MW2 comes out lights out for FC2 the only thing still around would be the Diamond league, but it would be done by the end of November.

when PC multiplayer becomes like the console multiplayer is when PC gamers start to rebel.

Will MW2 offer dedicated servers? The opportunity to run your own clan servers? An editor that's as good as FC2's that allows you to create maps in any setting? The same dynamic and fun gameplay?

Maybe a few of those, but lots of players seem to come back after trying various newer "alternatives" to FC2.

And yes, we want the dedi servers, the map editing and so on in PC games - otherwise we'd go for console gaming. The grown-up gamers who don't want everything simple and packaged but want to tinker with a map editor need games too.

Well, just a small info about situation here in Czech Republic:
We run server 1.FCCZ for all, clan Pitbulls hired server from us just month ago, then there is a clan WPCZ which is growing fast atm. and considering to hire some server as well and also clan Most-CZ which run their server as well. So, situation here is even better than after release and imao game still deserve at least small patch. Typing

But it seems to me here that its like "bojcott" from UBI, because Kimi just disapeared from this game, Atmon is here very rarelly and mods only do their job - edit/delete post about cheaters and ban those whose loose their temper Winky

To the best of my knowledge Kimi is no longer employed by Ubisoft. (good reason to not get info from her) Though she was definitely an asset to FC2.

We DO have a great MP community still, I see tons of new players every day and my clan (UNS) continues to grow every week or so.

WGC has created Last Man Standing mode, which is a lot of fun and really makes you use your limited lives (or try to) to the fullest.

UNS (my clan) has come up with VIP mode, where the captain has one single life. He/she MUST be protected at all costs, because when the captain dies, its game over.

In addition to new game modes, I have begun trying to alleviate one of the biggest gripes about FC2 MP: waiting. This isnt for the go go go n00bs as much as some of the mature yet time-restricted players I talk to. I fall into that same category; many evenings I cant wait 15 min to play a 15 min game, Ill just get one game in. Sometimes I dont even have time to play a game but ll do it anyway, sacrifcing sleep Blink So I am experimenting with (4)4-Player servers (Ranked) instead of trying to fill one dm server. This should make it so games can start reasonably fast as well as have absolutely stellar performance given the size of the maps and resources required to run them. I already have about 1/2 of a full 15 map rotation's worth of small maps, some of which play good with as many as 12 players still, due to the design.

Also, on UNS servers, there is NO TIME LIMIT. TDM is 100 kills FTW and DM is 25 no matter what.

As games get older, clans will inevitably move on to newer games. But, I do see clans still starting up in FC2 and I still get random people IM'ing me on xfire. (to those people: sorry I dont always answer, im almost always logged in but rarely actually there unless im in game)

I dont think FC2 is dying anymore, as it was during the horrific Ubi crashing festival we suffered through a couple months ago. Now, I think I see growth and at very least we are holding strong where we are.

Many players have figured out that the game can be very different depending on what server you go to. I make every effort with UNS to provide what players enjoy, if the general consensus of my players is that a map is poor, then it goes out. I have retired MANY of my earlier maps because of that.

What maps have you retired?

WGC has also recently created an Assault mode based on the FarCry1 gamemode called... Assault.

Asylum, Startship Troopers, Fallout Downtown, Asylum 2, All but the first Defense Grid maps, (only left the one because it made Ubi rec. list) OverLord would have been retired too, but it is also on the list. Heavy rain (a newer bomb) was retired after just a few games, Tau Station (still on Ubi server tho) and Im sure there are a few others. I found I could delete maps that were old again and went on a spree, cleaning 9 or 10 maps out of my original mapping profile, the level 21 agent. I also took a few out of the DarKnight_020 profile and even and a couple from the other two. (AgentOOKevin and UNS|agent)

Mainly to make room for my much better, newer maps. Smile I really liked a few of those and left some on Ubi, but I wont host them unless its requested.

And what is this Assault mode? Why was I not informed sooner? (lol)

I've played FC2 MP since it was first released , still do and I have not seen any decline in numbers, in fact it seems more popular.

Id have to diagree on that one, it is slower than it was back in January, at least times that I play. I will agree that there hasnt been much of (if any) decline sunce Ubi sorted out their serious server problems they were having a while back. (kinda) That alone drove away many players, some who have returned, some who are still MIA.

As for my retired maps, I saw some dork join my server and complain about every map he plaed, something I havent seen in ages. I am guessing its some mentlly challenged induvidual who read the poet and thought Id just instantly retire the enitre rotation.

I only retired maps that many many players complained about over a long period of time. So, for you who read this and think you can join my server, complain and have me just take the map down, think again. 1 player who crys isnt going to change the fact that 10 more loved the map. (Also, I have to kinda agree that the map sux to remove it) 1 players who likes the map wont change the 10 who hated it either. So, if you are THAT guy, go somewhere else to be a weirdo.

OOOh I love ASSAULT.... when? where?

Kev, Assault IS by far the funnest mode of play
Sorta like Uprising..BUT, One team defends the other attacks, you cap one "flag" at a time in order (usually 3) and anyone can cap not just a captain then the sides switch. Very concentrated fighting at the flag. Wave after wave.

Hello! I have few problms wich I hope you will help me solve. I bought and played FC2 online about a year a go on winXP. Now I have win7 and I have this problem when playing online. I cant DL a map. It says "failed to download map". I dont know what to do, but ithink it would be best to manually DL all maps, but I cant. I havent change the settings in FC2 network menu either. Can someone help me pls?. And the other thing too.. If I install xfire it doesnt detect FC2, even if i add it manually. But I can search servers for cod 2. I wold be happy if anyone gave me his xfire name and I would add him to play with. THANK YOU FOR ANSWERS, I M REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO PLAY FC2 AGAIN

Well, today was one of the busiest Sundays Ive had in a long time.

I had 3 servers running from about 7am EST:

UNS A HC TDM City Maps
UNS B HC TDM Sci Fi
UNS X HC DM 4/8 Players

All 3 were running strong for several hours, full or near capacity. After a few hours, I was down to two for several MORE hours completely full. (I cut the 3rd when it started dragging in players that left right away)

A few hours later, I had 3 up again, all running strong with various themes. I still have one going, which is not easy when no one is actually in there waiting to get the thing going. Its now 10.10pm EST and I have not had many moments at all where people were NOT playing in UNS servers.

This is all with a reduced amount of clan activity; we actually only had 3 solid members on today, 2 of which didnt spend all day keeping the servers alive. (I did most of the day, bouncing from server to server between Sunday stuff)

Id say FC2 is very much alive, surviving the initial onslaught of new (and crappier) games being released. Id actually take back a previous statement saying I didnt think it was growing, but not dying either. With todays activity, its definitely growing.

Thanks for all who played UNS or FC2 at all for that matter, dont be discouraged by crappy admining, bad maps etc. There are plenty of servers to choose from, and surely theres one for everyone out there.

You just have to find one that fits your style Smile

This here is a chart of the new unique visitors per week on the WGC FC2 servers. What it shows is that recently we are averaging ~500 new unique visitors per week, out of ~1400 unique players per week.

After waiting in a server lobby for 20 minutes whilst you wait for people to join and ready up so the map can begin...to then have several people drop out leaving teams unbalanced...then you'll know the answer to "why not"! Smile
