Here's the mission details:
OBJECTIVES Free the captive from the locked structure in the Dogon Sediko MISSION DETAILS The guy guarding the door at Mbantuwe's Club house told me about another foreigner the APR has locked up at the Dogon Sediko. Guess i better stage a rescue... When you get to the door where the captive is held, the hand icon the signifies that you can interact with the door never appears, no matter where you stand in front of the door. I've seen many reports on this issue without a known, working resolution. I have now encountered this problem. These are the commonly suggested solutions to fix the problem: 1) Reload a saved game that is before you accept the mission, re-accept the mission and attempt to complete it again. 2) Reload a save that is at the very beginning of chapter 2 and continue playing from that point, and the issue should resolve by the time you get to that mission. 3) Move your saved games to a secure location, uninstall Far Cry 2, reinstall Far Cry 2, and replace your saved games, load the game and continue. 4) Complete all the available missions first, then attempt this one. 5) Patch to the latest version of the game, version 1.03. I've tried all of these methods and none of them have worked. I checked youtube.com for videos showing someone completing the mission successfully on their PS3. I noticed one thing that happens on the PS3 that doesn't happen on my PC version: when you enter the house that has the captive and you go upstairs, the captive talks to you, asking if you're just another guard. This does not happen o the PC version. This is definitely a bug. There must be a work-around. When I bring down the developer console, are there commands I can type that instantly completed the mission, or a command that allows me to turn clipping off so I can walk through the door and talk to the captive? I'm 69% of the way through the game, I understand the mechanics of the game, i.e. how to operate a door. This is not user-error, this is definitely a bug in the game. This bug is affecting hundreds of people that have the PC version of this game, type "Dogon Sediko captive" into google and you'll see all the complaints and forums asking for a solution. A few of them asked UBIsoft how to correct this bug and have gotten a very canned response: "Thank you for contacting Ubisoft Technical Support. Unfortunately, the issue you are having is related to general gameplay hints and tips that is either covered in the manual, or is available via another source such as the Ubisoft forums (http://www.ubi.com/US/Community/ForumBrowser.aspx)." This is NOT a general gameplay issue. This is a bug. How do I fix it? Thank you. |

"asking if you're just another guard" was the question this guy asked me on the pc version playing the out of the box 'normal mode' version...without patches. weird...but i did killed all the guards before i released the captive from the locked structure in the Dogon Sediko. |

Oh, I forgot to mention that part. I killed every single living thing within a mile radius of the captive. I even slaughtered the goats and chickens in the area. Even after all that the door wouldn't show the had icon when I stood next to it.

sorry i can not help in this. did you try changing the mode from normal to hard core or reverse to easy...and see if this helps [assuming your have the retail version] And when using the crappy vista: run as administrator [doubt it cause i tested fc2 on vista 32bit] or just skip this mission [hate it too to skip but...WTF]
|

Yeah, I run my machine as admin all the time. As for changing the difficulty setting, I could try that. I've played through the game on hard core thus far. Unfortunately, skipping this quest is not an option, as it is the only only quest available to me. I've literally completed every single thing that can be done in the game up to this point. I've found every diamond, scouted every outpost, completed all the weapon shop missions, radio tower missions.... I've done absolutely everything I can do, and my only option is to take this quest, that I can't complete because of a bug. Total bummer! And frustrating. It takes time to do all those quests and get those diamonds....

I have the PC version, and he does talk to me, as soon as i go upstairs. in fact when i go to rescue the other buddy at the brewry, i hear him talking to me while im outside the building.
The only thing i can suggest, is do what i do with regards to rescuing buddies. Don't wait for the doorman @ the faction HQ to give you the rescue mish, just go on up there on your on and see if the hand signal appears. |
||||
|
Yeah, I actually read that somewhere; that you could just go rescue the guy without getting the quest. Unfortunately, I tried that too, and the door won't open.
It stinks because I poured about 35 hours into the game, collecting everything, and then I get hung up on this stupid quest. I wish there were at least other quests to do, or that I could skip this one.. Ugh. |

Did you figure out what to do? I am playing on a PS3 and i rescued the captive, but the map is telling me i have not done it. I went back to the house-after killing every living thing in the area too- and the captive is gone. Any ideas what I can do?

You could ask someone to send you one of their saved games that's close to your completion percentage. I did that for a person who had the same problem as you. It worked for them.
The downside is you will get the donor's weapon choices/purchases, number of diamonds found etc. But at least you will be able complete the game. I would send you one but unfortunately I cleared all my saves. In the future rescue the Dogon Sediko and Brewery buddies before you are asked to and as early as possible. That way if there is a problem (bug) you can go back to the beginning of the 2nd map and start over and not have wasted to much time. I ran into the same problem you are having now and that was the only way I got around it (start over). |

Addendum: I'm playing the retail PC version. When I first ran into the bug I got around it as stated above, going back to the beginning of the 2nd map(what a pain in the posterior). I didn't know that it was possible to e-mail someone a saved game. It wasn't until I read a post from a person having the same problem as you, and they asked if anybody would be willing to send them a save if possible. At that point even he wasn't sure if it would work, but he was desperate/frustrated (much like you are now most likely). I figured why not I'll give it a try. And damn if it didn't work!
