I'd like to open the console but for some reason pressing the button below my escape key (`) doesn't work. I have a British keyboard set to use the British layout.
I am using Windows 7 but had the same problems with Vista. I'm using an Acer Aspire 8930G. Can anyone tell me how to open the console somehow? When I had the same issue with Crysis, I remember being instructed to add a line to an autoexec file to bind F12 to open the console. Perhaps something similar can be done? |

It looks like Windows is 'conflicting' with your Keyboard. Do you have any kind of infrared controller/receiver plugged in (For the Media centre) ? Try removing the device. You can also do this via the Device Manager. These devices sometimes conflict with few of the Keyboard keys.
Also try this method which I'm giving. It should work on VISTA, but I can't say about Windows 7. Open the Registry Editor (Go to Start and Type "regedit" in the search box.) Navigate to the path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters. Find an entry named 'OverrideKeyboardSubtype' with REG_DWORD as the type. The value should be 2, change it to 0. Now try to open the console. You can also reboot your system. Hopefully this should solve the problem. Else, let me see if we can force the console via any cvar or command line parameter. |

Thanks; I disabled two IR devices and rebooted and it worked.

Cool. Glad to know it worked out. You can also try the registry hack which I gave, instead of disabling the devices.
Anyways, Happy Gaming. *Oops, Accidentally deleted my previous post*. |
