Hmm i disagree with excludign te tomcat or other 2 man planes because it is 2 manned and you cannot put that in a single player or one man conbtrolable plane game.

There are ways to do it, one you can control both aspects and controls of the pilot, why? becaus eim not sittign and playign teh game in a f14 im playign ti at mydesk with a control pad and keyboard infront of me. second teh other pilot can be controlled by AI and can get better as you complete more missions and teh AI gets experienced meanign eh stays with you when you play mutliplayer and gains exp in multiplayer too. You coudl also have teh ability to have a real person sitting in te backj controllign teh other aspects of it, just have that all controls for both pilots are availabel to use on teh keyboard.

there problm solved, teh oidea that ist a 2 man and cannot be included or doen because of that i sa load of bull, the peopel who say thsi just don;t want the 2 man planes include or disliek teh game as we areusing a keyboard and joystick and both controsl for both piolets can be included

Heh heh heh... Epic usage of leetspeak.
Anyhow, I think it's a good idea. Maybe they'll release some other type of game based around different aircraft, but with the same game engine. I wouldn't mind being able to play LOMAC as an F-15 pilot against someone flying a Hornet on LOMAC 2. Sounds cool.

How many people here want to fly the F-14 just because it was the star of Top Gun??? I can't say for sure but probably a good amount. The F-14, F-16 and F/A-18 are all great jets. They all have their role/purpose. Although, the F-14 is old. Most of the technology incorporated into the Interceptor/Fighter role of the game didn't come about in the F-14 until the D model was released. I think it's true, having an AI simulate a RIO is difficult since the F-14 RIO does most of the intercept and targeting work, the pilot just has the fire/go-no-go decision. The F/A-18E is still too new and sensitive to have all the information needed to really replicate its capabilities. The F-16 or F-15E would have been great additions (certainly the F-15E since it was the first to fill a real "multi-role" capability. The F-16 was primarily designed as a fighter as was the F/A-18. it wasn't until the later models that much of that multi-role "stuff" was incorporated. Whereas they started playing with the concept of a multi-role F-15 since '83; when the F-16 and Hornet started to come into full unit operational ability (i.e: they were the first year models~in car terms). Yes, I was disappointed by the lack of American aircraft but I'm very pleased with the product nevertheless. I would by any Lock-on developer their share of beers.

"From how I understand it Lockon was not designed to handle multiple crew positions and it would take a major overhaul of the game engine to introduce multiple stations in a single aircraft.

Not to mention the amount of work that would have to be done to create a co-pilot A.I. that would be up to standards when the player is not occupying a particular seat."

Indeed.

One sim that has this capability is the Il-2 Sturmovik series.
You can play the pilot or the rear gunner of the Sturmovik while on a single player mission.

In their latest installment, Il-2 Sturmovik 1946, the player has the capability to switch views for up to 5 positions if the player is flying a bomber.
