I think it's safe to say that the F-14 will unfortunatelly never become flyable in this sim. But if you, like me love the shape of the machine, there's always this one. http://www.streamload.com/dagrs/screenshots/vf32_01.jpg It's for FS9 and made by IRIS simulations. You can't shoot with it, but the FM is ok I think. The 3D model has no equal. It's simply the most beautiful Tomcat ever made for a PC sim. Happy

Right now it is only avaliable as a demo, but the full release will no doubt be outstanding!

It will be payware. But I reckon it will be worth the price! Happy

Here's some pics of the Tomcat in the payware demo.

I would be ok if we never got a "Flyable" tomcat. I just wish that the Tomcat we can fly now by editing the Meinit file had wings that swept. That would make me a happy man. Big Grin

The tomcat is not only my all time favorite plane, but its by far the sexiest thing to ever fly the big blue

People, People, People.

As you know, any 2-seat aircraft in the Navy or Marine Corps. can be "soloized" and all systems can be operated from the front seat. So the RIO will be a nice little spiffy RIO graphic.

Also I'd love to see the legacy hornet in the game, not only becaues it is the traditional nemesis of all models of the Mig-29 (in sheer capability and manueverability), but becaues it would finally introduce two-sided carrier operations. As far as the F-16... sure, fine and good... If you can work an advanced radar system like the APG-70... how much harder would it be to work an APG-65 or APG-73 with A/G mode? Perhaps there would be just one new aircraft... and then it'd have to be the hornet ofcourse :-). I'd also like to see some other nations represented here. What about the Eurofigther typhoon, Saab Gripen, or Dassault Rafale? Why not back the Mirage 2000 flyable? There is just so much these guys could do with the game... I don't wanna hear complaints about work load, this game is a huge opportunity.

As far as the tomcat, we all know it was the premier fighter/interceptor in the Navy... not to mention just DAMN SEXY... and it'd be interesting to see it fly against the SU-27... give us some fun toys to play with.

my 2 c.

I believe the problem is that the information of the avionics for the navy planes is still clasfied, so we wouldn't get accurate avionics and such. And Lo-mac is all about realism.

Lol I think they should make a flyable Mig-31. That'd be fun!

Like I've said... if they can model the APG-73 and all of the F-15 systems they can do a hornet. Aren't those cassified too?

lol not going to happen in lock on. I haven't heard of any planes from the tomcat in future sims. Maybe in an addon for fighter ops but thats it, so thats a good 2-5 year wait.

With today's avionics capabilities, a Tomcat (or any 2 seater aircraft) could be upgraded to facilitate a single-seat. You would lose some multi-tasking ability, obviously, and increase the workload - but it could be done.

If you all want realism, you can go fly Early Vietnam era aircraft. You're not going to get it with anything later than that. Engines, Avionics, and Radars built in the 70s are still classified technology that is inaccessible to anyone without clearance and the need-to-know. about 45+% of what went into LOMAC was guessing or based on supported rumor - at least on the NATO side. Russian aircraft and systems are kept under less security these days after the colapse of the Soviet Union. Although newer aircraft, such as the Su-33, 37, and 47 are probably a lot more guesswork than the Su-23.

A lot of that stuff is all classified - so any work done on it is, essentially, guesswork based upon its said capabilities and contribution from some pilots.

There's no reason to NOT put any aircraft in the game. With the size of the community, it wouldn't be too difficult to sustain a 'plane pack' project to add a bunch of aircraft to the game, as well as update the existing ones (some of the aircraft look somewhat dissapointing because they are not 'flyable' aircraft, and have less detail).

I would be happy to help (should the developers support or authorize such a project) - the only hinderence being I will be gone 9 months, starting August 24, for Basic and A-school. After that, though - I don't know. My job is in avionics.... That's probably tempting fate, there.

I think the F-16C is the premier multi-role aircraft of the US military. The F-16 should have been included as a flyable aircraft in Lock On. Thumbs Up Anyone else agree?

It's a crime.
f-16, f-15E f/a-18A, OR f/a-18E, have to be flyable.
Someone have to make a publicity of this on the sides of some bus, I think.
A game with this graphics!, It's a crime.

it "should" have but then Ed didn't include an AG radar in the game engine so that needs reworked. But it is mentioned that after the next 2 products from ED, black shark and tank killers, there would be an F-16CJ sim. So only time will tell. For now we have Falcon4.0 and maybe at the end of this year FigherOps.

That fighter ops game looks impressive, to say the least.

I hope to God someone makes a YF-23 or F/B-23 RTA for that game... prefferably both.

I'm already saving up for a new system just for that game.

Actually - the F-18 is the premier multi-role aircraft. Not only does it see more combat than any other U.S. aircraft - it's also got some of the most advanced air-to-ground and dogfighting gear you can imagine. Although the F-18 was designed to supplement the F-14 in the ground-attack role, so its air-to-air combat is rather limited - but still about the same as the F-16s (AMRAAMs and Sidewinders - maybe a sparrow or two).

The F-18 is about like the marine corps - one of the first aircraft to start hitting things - and also the first to encounter casualties.

I still don't like the super bug, though... They could have at LEAST done the Tomcat a favor by replacing it with something halfway fearsome. I think the YF-23 or F/B-23 RTA would be a PERFECT replacement for the F-14.

I highly recommend throwing support behind Fighter Ops. They have plans on releasing the sim in modules. Yes the FA18 is planned with carrier ops. The first release will be based on the USAF training program starting with the Texan II turbo prop trainer through the T38 and on to the F16,F15, and A10.

kinda weird bumping up like a 5 month old thread but whatever. While on the subject of FighterOps, i haven't been doing much reading about it, but will the first release have the F-16, F-15, and A-10 or will it only be the training aircrafts like the texan II and the T38.

IF the only problem with the tomcats is that it has a RIO, then you solve the problem by adding a RIO or changing the cockpit realism by adding radar and everything to it

I agree that flying that Tomcat with just a single pilot would be unrealistic. BUT that does not mean I don't want to fly it. Its really hard for me to go one way or the other.

Because if I say, screw it being unrealistic, I just want to fly the thing. Then I'm encouraging lack of standards.

BUT!! I do love the Tomcat and would hate to think I have to wait at least two years to fly that plane.

So I am really divided on this. I do want someone to come up with a folding wing mod for Lock on though. I would fly the F-14 overlayed on the 15. If anything just for making some nice tomcat video's.

Is there some way to lock the wings IN? as opposed to them being locked OUT?
