When you patch the game you are only able to fly with a joystick, because the arrowkeys are only useable for trimming, I do not like this. I have a crappy joystick and I love playing with arrow keys. Online I shoot down guys that are using joysticks and I do not feel handicapped by using arrow keys... so why did they pull it out of the game??
And I want it back on, I'm not going to buy a new joystick so I'm forced to sell the game to someone else when they don't put it back in.

make a suggestion: save up about 60-70 dollars and get a GOOD joystick. Prolly pick a better one off of ebay for cheaper...dont waste your time fingerf***ing the keyboard.

You can buy a cheap stick under $30!

No longer in the 169th, and happy to be out. Mods can you please remove the 169th from my name

arrowkeys? trimming? I use them to fly the plane, and before I catch flames aplenty for the sacrilege that is flying this sim without a joystick - I tried. For months. And I didn't like it at all. I fly far better with keys but then maybe i just didn't like the joysticks I tried (all cheap ones, no Saitek luxury)...

Try unplugging the joystick and see if that reactivates the keys, the MS Sidewinder I tried would still allow key use for flying even if the stick was plugged in...

he is right...

it´s a known bug that came out with 1.02... don´t like it either...

1st - i personally travel with the computer a lot, so i may not have the joystick with me...

2nd - it WAS working before 1.02 and it´s such a small correction that i don´t think that it´s not possible to use it again...

3rd - not everyone has or likes using a joystick... a lot of people playing LOMAC from scratch will become confused why the controls don´t work and not knowing that it´s a bug will leave the game. i´ve warned several begginers already...

i´ve only bought my HOTAS after playing LOMAC... had i tried LOMAC after 1.02 came out and didn´t know what was happening, i would very probably ditch the game forever...

this is a serious question on a matter that can be EASILY fixed.

a small patch like the SFP1 F4J hotfix would do it...

flying with a keyboard ?

Im suprised you can get it in the air let alone shoot someone down, get a dual analog gamepad if nothing else, at least you would have analog control of the control surfaces.

Im sorry, but flying without a stick just isn't natural, kinda like eating at a five star restaraunt using only your fingers.

I know people who drive racing sims with the keyboard, but they are stuck in the arcade modes because in "hardcore" they just spin off of every corner.personally I wouldnt waste my time.

I don't know about you guys...but I could fly with the arrow keys even after patching the game to 1.02. It's best to have a joystick to have that gaming experience...but the arrow keys are also useful. Because if you're using a joystick...whoever comes in will know you are playing games (parents) and you most likely get scolded at. But with the arrow keys...no one will be the wiser...just hit pause and alt-tab and open up a word document and pretend to do hw. Then go back and continue flying without getting scolded at.

hahah...i feel ya, i feel ya man! Always doin that with Call of duty, And especially since i have a double screened computer, I can play and work at the same time Tongue. bUT for lomac its a different story, u cant really Alt-tab out of it because it takes SOOOO long to load and finally minimze, You cant fly with the arrow keys because it just takes away the whole FEel and fun of an aircraft sim, And u cant even just look at it because to hear it i will have to have my headphones on, And when they walk in and see me with those on, thats an immediete red handed catch. Even so, i probably wouldnt be able to hear em' anywaze as I speed through cities at Mach 2 with a missle up my tail! Wink

fair argument. couldn´t agree more.

that is why i bought a Cougar.

HOWEVER, had i played LOMAC with the keyboard after 1.02 and found that it was so hard to control the A/C, i would very probably not play the game anymore and with that, would not return to the flight sim scene.

another problem is...

when you got your VERY first flight sim...

did you already had a joystick?

what i mean is... what comes first?

the joystick or the flight sim?

how do you bring new people to the flight sim scene, if, when you show them the game, they have to spend money on a joystick before they can try it...

maybe that is why flight sims still have keyboard controls???

My first Joystick cost me 4.99 on sale, it was a Macally, trigger and a couple fire buttons, a crappy little slider for throttle. I was a mac user at the time and wanted to check out "Fly!"

it sat in a closet forever and when I picked up IL2 sturmovik, I broke it out and used it. after 3 or 4 days it fell apart inside, all the spring mounts broken, so I used rubber bands wrapped around the outside, looped over the stick, for centering. since it had no trim I would just tighten and loosen the corresponding bands Smile

FS9 could be flown with a KB no problem, as long as you just took off and set the autopilot, making corrections through the flight director, but Lomac and FB are way too hands on imo to use keys.

As far as hiding what I am doing, I stopped that in '87 when I graduated and moved out of the parents house. the only computer I had then was a TRS80 16bit color computer. it used cassette tapes for programs, or cartridges. Im pretty sure alt-tab didnt work on it lol.

If game developers leave key assignments for control surfaces thats A-OK for me, and I hope all the adversaries I meet in the air are using keyboards only for control. in fact I encourage it! Too Happy

If you can competently control an Su-27 with the four arrow keys...I have nothing but respect for you. That's some tough work right there.

I also fly with arrow keys- in games like IL2 such flying is quite difficult (precise aming is a b***) but in lomac its much easier and with the 1.02 patch thigs got MUCH better- now pressing down arrow does not move the elevator down momentarly but gradualy, meaning you can actualy fly in a straight line. I belive that several succefull landings of su-33 on the carrier and succesful air and grond battles with all the planes speak for itself.
I would like to fly with joystick but I need the money for other stuff.
