I've screwed my courage to the sticking point and am ready to go with 4.09. I just need a step by step process so I can:

1. Save my current offline career.

2. Get all my custom skins back in (I think I know this one).

3. Do a clean install. Do I move my old IL2 installations to my back up drive?

4. If I don't move my old installations, rename em so Hyperlobby, Track IR and everything else isn't confused?

If there's a thread already out there detailing this please show me where it is.

Thanks in advance.

I dont really get your questions exactly but i just installed 4.09m like any other patch and got no problems.

You could copy your original directory to an other location or other drive to save it, wich i would recomend since there are a lot of servers not converting to 4.09m for a while because Mods do not work correctly with it, so if you want to play on those servers you need a 4.08 install (with or with out mods)

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Black Edition, Foxconn nForce 590 SLI, 4x OCZ 2048MB EPP DDR2-800, 2x Club3D GeForce 8800GT 512MB, Be-Quiet 700 Watt Straight Power, Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit

4.09m should retain your saved offline careers from 4.08m, and your skins should stay the same, I think most of the skins in 4.09m are for the new planes.

One problem is that if you have 4.09m you won't be able to play on 4.08m servers. So before you install 4.09m you will want to make a copy of the 4.08m game so that you can play on 4.08m servers. I did this though Hyperlobby is still fixed to my 4.09m version and there doesn't seem to be a way to change the .exe it uses without reinstalling it, so to play on 4.08 servers I have to use the IP address for the server instead of hyperlobby. Does anyone know a way around this with HL?

I'm not at my desktop now but the HL help feature can tell you how to do it. Basically, you get HL to search your hd for the IL2.exe file. Then you just choose the desired directory where you 4.08 exe file resides and away you go.

I had to get HL to search for the .exe when I installed it but I don't see a way to get it to search for the .exe again and change the file path.

From the HyperLobby manual:
quote:

When you try to connect to a game room, HL may pop up the game-location dialog. This happens when HL is not properly set up or cant automatically detect the game location. This dialog can be forced by pressing CTRL+SHIFT and left-clicking on the CONNECT button.

Just force the game-location dialog as above to change the file path. You can speed things up a bit by finding the new .exe first and copying the path to the clipboard, so you can paste it directly to the dialog and don't have to do another search.

Aha. Well that's not very intuitive. Thanks.
