I've only just recently heard of the update for the 4.08 patch, 4.09m. I have downloaded the patch, read the readme by Daidalos Team, but now I am stuck with something noobish. How on earth do I INSTALL the thing over 4.08!?

Errr, the download is an executable. You simply double click on it and it installs itself. Just launch the game afterwards and you should see a new Version number along with a Tead Dedilaus logo. Couldn't be simpler.

Just make sure the install is properly directed to your game folder before you click the install button. It is usually automatic but some of us install the game to different places.

Nope, It's still saying 4.08m, and no Daidalos Team symbol. I got the 4.09 'Game patch EN' from M4T. Did I get the right one?

Try extracting it to a new folder on your desktop, then just copy/paste all the files to your game folder.

Check the properties of the game patch and confirm that it is 566Mb in size.

Wow, I think something must be wrong then. I've only got 22.6Kb when I roll over the file with the patch . I must've downloaded the wrong one. Which one should I have downloaded, and where?

Yes, you must install 4.08 first if your game is version 4.07.

Riiiight. I've got the other one in M4T called '2_4.09 Patch torrent pack'. I've tried clicking on the icons it contains, but to no avail. I've tried extracting the folder to the Il-2 directory, but I just ended up with the 5 files in it bieng transferred.

All of their icons are simply the original PF logo.
I try clicking on them, and it just opens up the program with the 4.08m attached. I want to be sure, have i got the right one.

With regard to me needing 4.08 before 4.09, I remember that before I got 4.09 beta (which rendered Il-2 unplayable), I had the 4.08 Megapatch (the version that made all machines flyable, except for the He-111 Zwilling. Whenever I started the game up, the main background was always the 4.08 background, with two Spitfires behing a Bf-109. After the great mighty failure (4.09b installation), and to this day, the main background is the PF screen, and the only time it shows the 4.08 background is on startup when it is loading the game. Is this supposed to be the case, or is it indicating something?

Ok, I forgot that I'll be part of Joint Ops class of December though. I'll hold on until SEPS and see how they want the game before I go patch it up.

In that case you got the torrent zip.

You will need a torrent client like uTorrent or Vuze to download the actual patch. Both are free. I am not sure if it is allowed to link to these programs here, so google for utorrent or vuze. - download the client program,

Install the client, after that:
You need to look inside the archive you downloaded from M4T.
There should be a .torrent file inside. Double click that and the torrent client will start up, asking you where to save - point it to the location where the patch installer should be saved. The client will start downloading the patch installer.
You can pause and resume this downloading any time you want. Once the patch installer has finished downloading the client will start uploadng it
(seeding) for others to download.

The .torrent you downloaded from M4T is sort-of a roadmap for the torrent client. It tells where the information is that is needed to download the actual patch installer.
Once the patch installer is completely downloaded you can immediately use it. Just double click it and you can start the installation of patch 4.09m. You will need to point the patch installer to your main game folder and overwrite/replace old files and folders. After that is done you should have v4.09m next time you start your game.

If this sounds too complicated, Download the patch again from M4T, but this time select the bottom one in the mirror list. This is the biggest resource and the file-type is .RAR

To extract the installer from this rar archive you will need an archive utility like WinRAR, 7Zip, or another one that can handle RAR archives. If you use 7Zip you can run the 409m.exe from inside the archive without needing to extract it first. Just double-click the rar to open with 7zip, then double click the 409m.exe and point it to your main game folder. If you download IL-2 patches ALWAYS take the biggest one and make sure "server" is not in the file name.
