For some reason, my PF+AEP+FB won't run. Not if some file got corrupted when tweaking my vid card settings with ATI Tray Tools... but the game won't fly. That is, I can start it and select a mission and start to load it and when it gets to 100% it just hangs.

So I'm gonna reinstall. No biggie. Probably faster than trying to trouble shoot what is wrong.

I haven't changed any drivers or anything else so just assume something is hosed.

But I was thinking of going ahead and installing (finally)1946 and after looking at the UBI website started to get confused as to what I ought to either buy or download.

I do have the FB/AEP and PF discs.

What would be the easiest thing for me to do? I'm still running XP.

Sorry if this has been covered but the one guide I saw about reinstalling doesn't include 1946.

Just go out and buy the 1946 DVD. It's very cheap now.

Thanks. Guess all the games are on one DVD which is a lot easier than messing with all those other ones...

I assume the DVD has to be in the DVD drive to run the sim?

The North American version of the game doesn't need to be in the DVD drive to play.

That's nice. I'm tired of replacing CD ROM or DVD ROM drives.

Does the DVD ver require any patches?

One free patch, 4.08m. There is a beta 4.09m patch but there is no dedicated server so not used much online but offliners love it.

After installing 1946 from the DVD.... still didn't work.

So spent about an hour reinstalling vid drivers. Since the ATI drivers do NOT work with my AGP HD 3850 I had to resort to using the drivers that came... ack!!!!.. on the disk with the card!

Woah woah, back up, what do you mean the ATI drivers did not work for your 3950? Should work fine! And what happened on the il2 install?

The drivers will not install. Since the card is AGP apparently ATI doesn't care much. When you run the driver install, it comes back with a message that it can't find a supported ATI card, and thus exits. This is documented in some sites like Tomshardware.

Totally blows. I have used Omega drivers in the past with this card, but for some reason, they would not install. So in the future if I really need to install new drivers, I will have to load Omega's after running one of those vid driver cleaners. (I hope that will work) Or else re-install XP.

The 1946 install did work, but that was before I reinstalled the vid drivers, so the game would not display anything except for the mission selection screens. I could select stuff, but then it would not start.

But all is okay now.

Yeah... I don't think I'll be buying any more AGP cards.
