Il2 1946 dvd, successfully modded to 4.08. Tried to mod to 4.09, but still runs as 4.08.

4.09 did go into the correct place (I can see it!) but otherwise no joy....

Any help appreciated fellas!

What do you mean you can see it? 4.09 should extract a bunch of files to the il2 game folder and overwrite the existing ones and the folder will look no different as it's just replacing existing files. Can you take a screenshot of what you see?

Could it be you downloaded and installed the 'Dedicated server' 4.09b1m patch?

That's not the correct one, as it belongs to a different product (the Dedicated Server).

Installing it to 4.08m would result into what you are describing: 4.08m.

See here: Patch order - entire game series. Make sure you have it right!

Bear in mind that 4.08 & 4.09b are NOT mods.. they are official 1C patches. Do not confuse the two. Patches we can help with.. mods you will have to go to where you got the mod from.

Guys, sorry it's taken so long to reply. Forgot to hit the "notify" button......

Anyway:

When the game starts the splashscreen still shows 4.08.

The patch I installed was: 409b1m_complete.

The patch I installed was: 409b1m_complete.

That specific patch is a .zip file, containing the 4.09b1m patch, and the extra skins.

Check whether there's a folder named '4.09b1m_complete' in your game's folder.
The entire zip's contents must've landed there, and that's not correct.

If so, then move all the files and folders that are in the '4.09b1m_complete' folder, over to the folder where you installed your game.
(Basically, they go one level up). It should be asking you to overwrite files and folders, you should confirm.

(The .zip you downloaded is not an official one, it's a package made by someone, uploaded somewhere, like 'Games on net'?)

Good Luck!

Fooltrottel:

Many thanks for the advice. I'm away from home at the moment so I won't be able to try for a couple of days....

I did check the wherabouts of that file and I recall it did go to the Il2/46 folder. I'll report back soon!

Fellars:

Thanks for your help but I'm still struggling:

The update went into the Il2 folder but it didn't extract - it stayed in the folder.

I can't find any options to do anything any different -

When I click on the zipfile I get the following:

"Select folder to extract files to"

I browse and select the Il2 folder and it extracts to a new folder within the Il2 file. No overwrite!

What am I missing here??

So, it probably writes to a folder named '4.09b1m_complete' within the IL2 folder?

Browse to that folder, press Cltr-A to select all files/folder, Press Cltr-C to prepare to copy them, browse one level up (so you're in the IL2 folder), and press Ctrl-V, it will then copy/paste all files to the correct place. It should also ask for overwrite...
