Hello, Im thinking about upgrading the $600 paperweight from 2.2ghz amd 3700 single core to something in a 3ghz.
Current mother board : Motherboard manufacturer's name: Asus A8N-LA HP/Compaq name: Nagami2L-GL8E supports only socket 939, which it seems is hard to find processors for, closest ive found is new wegg and only a 2.4ghz. Any ideas?? supreme commander 139th independent airborne amphibious underwater mess kit repair squadron (digital) |

You won't find any 939-pin processor sporting a stock speed of 3.0GHz. But you can find a few 939-pin processors that will over clock to 3.0GHz. The closest stock speed 939-pin processor to 3.0GHz is the single core FX-57. It has a stock speed of 2.8GHz. These next two processors are dual core procs and sport a stock speed of 2.6GHz. They are the Opteron 185 & the FX-60. All three are capable of 3.0GHz by over clocking them.
With that said you will pay out the nose for any one of the procs listed above. So much so that it makes it unfeasible to do so. I saw a combo of a AM2 6000+ Back Processor (3.0GHz) & 2GB OCZ DDR-2 RAM for $80 on a web site yesterday. And you can pick yourself up an AM2 motherboard for well less than $100. This is cheaper than going on eBay and purchasing any of the 939-pin processors I mentioned above. Just a thought. |

-HH-Quazi is right...
Think you can get a new AM2 socket mobo for 50 dollars, but its advisable to spend something like 100 on a good mobo. If you want more than 3.0GHz you end up with the AMD X2 6000+ or the even faster X2 6400+ 3.2GHz but there becoming rare, especialy the Black Edition version of it. AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Black Edition, Foxconn nForce 590 SLI, 4x OCZ 2048MB EPP DDR2-800, 2x Club3D GeForce 8800GT 512MB, Be-Quiet 700 Watt Straight Power, Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit |

Stugumby,
I have an FX-55 that you can buy...I used it for 6 months before upgrading to a dual core Opteron 185. The stock speed is 2.6, and was Prime95 stable overclocked to 2.8. Let me know...I'd let it go with a Zalman cooler for $75. Works great with IL-2 1946. |
