Hi guys,

Every time a new map loads and I get in a new plane, the first time I fire my guns or cannons, I get a second long pause which is like second long 'lag'.

The scren freezes and my force feedback disappears just for a second. Its getting really annoying when I forget to 'test fire' my guns at the start of the map to clear it.

I line up the first enemy and always miss because of it, then kick myself for forgetting.

After that first fire then everythings fine.

I have tried turning the graphics down, no change whther on Perfect or Excellent. My frame rate is great.

I remember having this problem once before on an different system, but I forget how I fixed it..

Anyone any ideas?

That is a weird issue wish I could help ya bro

I would look at sound card drivers

That happens to me occasionally. I noticed that it doesn't happen anymore, though, and the reason might be that I turned down the model detail to "normal". My computer is a slow beast, and can't handle 1946 with everything up and at 1028x764 res. I'm at 800x600, Excellent graphics except the model detail. When I had the model detail to "High" I would get occasional pauses as I got within guns range. And, this would only happen at 800x600, at 1024x768, no pauses. It's really weird.

Of course, it could very well be my sound drivers that caused the problem, but I haven't changed them or made any changes to the sound setup.

some of the online folk who have experienced this recommend you fire your guns just after takeoff to load the sound into memory , then the next time you fire in anger this wont happen -

Try disabling force feedback and see if it still occurs.

I get exactly the same thing, always have done. Every time I load up the game I do a QMB over Crimea, just a few aircraft. I then let the AI go at it for a few minutes. This gets all the sounds and I suppose grfx effects loaded into RAM. After that, no pauses.

You should also try crashing your aircraft into the deck on this first QMB run. You will probably notice a small pause there too.

All in this takes about 5 mins and then I have smooth gameplay after that.

Marmalade...even more remarkable when you consider it was developed with absolutely no access to oranges whatsoever. Now that takes real talent.

I'm going to give that a try. Thanks!

No problem Crucislancer, hope it helps. You should check out this sticky at the top of the Community Help page...

My rig is also a bit slow compared to some of the rigs the guys are running. But by using the settings listed in that thread I find I get quite good performance, well, good enough performance.

Foxyboy is on the right track, with older rigs the hdd and ram bandwidth is a little smaller so it does take a moment to load these up. When I had a slower rig I used to do just that, and when online if the server had externals I would cycle through all the planes in the air to load them and the surrounding terrain.

Excellent point Urufu, yeah, cycle through the externals. And if crashing your plane into the deck on the first run of your gaming session you should do that from the external view also. I think it's the explosion graphic that causes a little stutter, so you want to view that from outside the aircraft.

Could viewing the first minute or so of the Black Death track be an alternative?
Just untill that IL2 crashes into the ground?

Its wierd, I get NO other pauses at all, not when I crash, nothing.

It ONLY happens with gunfire just once on each map.Its like the sounds need to precache and get loaded in RAM.

If only there was a command we could add to teh conf.ini which would pre-cache the effects.

I have turned all the gfx down a bit, mostly to excellent/high from perfect, but it still happens.

its sad becasue I always waste a few rounds of ammo at the start of flying. In planes like the 109E and the Spitfire V, this cna be a real waste of cannon.

If anyone knows a better nfix than turning graphics down to medium, pls tell.

I tried S3TC today, but it stil happens.

Well if it's a sound problem why change graphics? What sound settings do you have in il2setup.exe? Have you tried changing or updating the sound drivers?
