The information in this thread has really helped me. I love the way IL-2 looks on my 24" NCR display at 1920x1200...but...
Is there a way to set the resolution to 1920x1200 without stretching? The distortion drove me so crazy I had to go back to 1600x1200. Thanks. |

Umm, this whole thread is telling you how to get rid of the distortion.... Post you windows section of your conf.ini and lets get this sorted. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flying online as NORAD_Shinjiro |

Here is my window section, copied exactly from my conf.ini file:
[window] width=1920 height=1200 ColourBits=32 DepthBits=24 StencilBits=8 ChangeScreenRes=1 FullScreen=1 DrawIfNotFocused=0 EnableResize=0 EnableClose=1 SaveAspect=0 Use3Renders=0 I fiddled around with this for about an hour today, and nothing solved the problem. One strange thing I notice is that the image seems like it's stretched vertically rather than horizontally. For example, if I look at a flying bf.109 from the side, it seems short and fat, but if I look at it from the top down with the nose pointing toward the top of the screen, it seems long and thin. Shouldn't it be the other way around? Another strange thing I noticed is that the vertical stretching is still there in the interface when the black bars are present. If I'm starting a mission in campaign mode and I go to the loadout screen, the bf.109 is still distorted even though the screen hasn't resized to fill the entire 1920x1200 display. I'm wondering if this has anything to do with my NVIDIA 8800 GT or some other factor external to IL2. Thanks. |

Check your nvidia control panel and make sure you don't have some weird aspect settings or something for the monitor.

I haven't gotten it to work yet, but you're right about the aspect being the problem, I think. It seems like it's cramming the 16:10 aspect 1920x1200 resolution into the same 4:3 aspect it uses for 1600x1200. In other words, it's displaying 1920x1600 at 4:3 aspect. That's a much more succinct way to say it. I'll post an update when I get a chance. Thanks for the help! |

Hi
Just new around here. Have been playing il-2 rather a lot for about a month now (so im just beginning to get the hang of it width=1440 height=900 ColourBits=32 DepthBits=24 StencilBits=8 ChangeScreenRes=1 FullScreen=1 DrawIfNotFocused=0 EnableResize=0 EnableClose=1 SaveAspect=0 Use3Renders=0 Any help would be much appreciated! Have tried Stab, but it hasnt helped unfortunately. cheers! |

I'm also new to this. I have a ATI Radeon HD3870 X2 1 GB graphics card with 4 outputs and 3 22 inch monitors that I want to run as a big widescreen display. The native resolution is 1680 x 1050 in the displays. I have my conf.ini file set like this:
[window] width=5040 height=1050 ColourBits=32 DepthBits=24 StencilBits=8 ChangeScreenRes=1 FullScreen=1 DrawIfNotFocused=0 EnableResize=0 EnableClose=1 SaveAspect=0 Use3Renders=0 I think I have followed all the suggestion in this thread and tried everything I can think of to get it to run on three monitors but so far I am unsuccessful. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Try use3renders=1

I tried the use3renders=1. It did not do anything, in fact Il-2 will not even start when I set it to 1. Also, there is another thing that I do not understand - The conf.ini file seems to not take my modifications and changes some back to what they were. My procedure is open in notepad, make the modifactions, save, close the file, then open Il-2 to see what happens. I usually start a quick mission to see what the screen looks like, then shut down and do it all over again. I have tried about everything I can think if to try to get this to work but, so far no joy.
A good example of this is if I change fullscreen =1 to 0, and open the game, it does not open in a window. Then when I reopen conf.ini, fullscreen is still set to 1. What gives? It does seem to take when I open up setup, but then of course I lose all settings in conf.ini and have to redo width and height etc. Also, should I be running directx or openGL? |

Needs to run in opengl. Are you using Vista? If so there might be several reasons the changes won't take. Primary reason being that if you install to program files folder in vista it makes all .ini files read only, move the game to a folder outside of Program Files (I use C:\Games\etc.) and that should solve it. More rarely sometimes vista will make a second conf.ini file in \\Documents and Settings\etc. and use that, so if moving the game folder outside of program files doesn't fix it do a search of your hardrive to find the second conf.ini. If in XP make sure conf.ini wasn't accidentally set to read only.

I got it to work. Under IL-2 properties, you have to set the shortcut to run in "normal window" then it takes the settings and runs three wide just fine. Pretty cool.

I have been running the widescreen setup for over a year now. I have never been able to get icons on the right side of the screen in hud view. I have a Samsung SyncMaster 225bw with a desktop res of 1680x1050 with the game set up the same. I have no stretching or distorting. here is my conf.ini setting:
[window] width=1680 height=1050 ColourBits=32 DepthBits=24 StencilBits=8 ChangeScreenRes=1 FullScreen=1 DrawIfNotFocused=1 EnableResize=0 EnableClose=1 SaveAspect=0 Use3Renders=0 I am running an NVidia GeForce 8800GT PCIe card. Any ideas on how to fix this? Thanks much for all the great tools and tips. I will be getting IL2 Stab. WB_FlashOver |

Il2 is not meant to support widescreen, this is a bug and unfortunately there is no fix nor is there one forthcoming. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flying online as NORAD_Shinjiro |

My new monitor is 1440 X 900...- Il-2 Stab doesn't seem to have this setting & I seem to be having some trouble syncing my Settings in game ,with Config files & Il2 Stab settings ...any easy fix? " God Help me , I love the smell of Computer wiring smoking in the morning!" |

In that case I would dispense with IL2 Stab (unless someone can pipe up with a known fix) and edit the conf.ini manually. I'm not familair with IL2 stab but probably running it after the conf.ini changes would revert it to a resolution it does support (thats a guess!).
Try changing it too: [window] width=1440 height=900 ColourBits=32 DepthBits=24 StencilBits=8 ChangeScreenRes=1 FullScreen=1 DrawIfNotFocused=0 EnableResize=0 EnableClose=1 SaveAspect=0 Use3Renders=0 After you save it, change the file properties to read only. I would hold off running Il2 stab after that too see if its worked. IL2 should in theory not have a problem with 1440x900 as its 16:10. Alternatively you could try 1280x800 to see if that works. Its a slightly smaller 16:10 resolution. |
