Are you having problems with the MS Force feedback II joystick and Vista? or just Generally Vista and 1946>?.

My trouble is getting the game to run on Vista Ultimate. None of the solutions I have read/tried work.
As far as I have gotten was to install on my D drive and even then the installation stopped before the initiation screen came up.The game won't run though the Start Box does appear. It wouldn't even install on my C:Program x86 drive. I'm at a loss as what to do next. Then I see this guy claiming he had no problems installing and running it what so ever..just too much to swallow. There are a lot of different Vista flavours. On top of that there are several versions of the 1946 DVD out there - The user refered to might have been telling the truth very well. 46 should run without any problems on Vista 32 bit as long as the insane UAC and aero are turned off.
When you refer to "Start Box" do you mean the DVD auto-run menu? - forget that. Start through the normal windows method: Start - All Programs - Ubisoft - IL2 Sturmovik 1946 - IL2 Sturmovik 1946 or through the shortcut icon placed on th desktop. If you right click the menu item in the start menu or the desktop game shortcut and select "Properties" it will indicate where the main game directory is. Make sure you did run the il2setup.exe in the main game directory and selected all your hardware before running the game. Also make sure conf.ini in the main game directory is NOT Read-Only - try to open it with notepad, place the following line at the start or end to test: ;test Note the ";" character is the first character of the line. NO leading spaces are allowed! After putting the line in, use File - Save (NOT Save as...) to save conf.ini then open it again and check the test line is there. The ";" at the start indicates it is a comment line to the game so it will be ignored. If the line is not there after you open it again you either have UAC on, or conf.ini is read-only. In the last case you need to take "ownership" of the file. Taking ownership of system files Whenever you run or install anything under Vista make sure you are the Administrator - that will spare you a LOT of annoying hours. Hope this helps - Good Luck! Seems very specific to me about being a 64 Ultimate edition same as I have. Since it was written about Il-2 1946 from U.S. Amazon...I have to assume he was talking about that too..which is what I have. The only logical conclusion is that he is a liar. Grin. With that said (sometime you just have to open a saftey valve and let off steram)..thanks for the tips..I've tried all that..which makes his remaks all the more unbelievable to me. I can't get the il2setup.exe to run at all. It didn't run when 1946 was installed. Trying to get it to run does nothing...but causes the Start Box to pop up....after which clicking start does nothing. Trying to run via the Desktop icon gets a message that this is not a valid Windows 323 application. Since I can't run il2setup.exe then there is no ini file to configure. How about this: When 1946 installs and gets to the Direct X 9 installation program I canceled because I already have Direct X 10. At this point the 1946 installation process halts. Could it be that I need to let 1946 continue on through the Direct X process in order to get to the initiation setup screen? I may not sound like it but I do appreciate your attempts at helping me out...again thanks. NOTA BENE |

Check out the parts I bolded. First, he is not a liar as I had the same experience. The second bolded part is where your mistake is, any game that asks to install direct x go ahead because when it starts the direct x install if you have a newer version it updates nothing, continue with the instalation and go from there. The reviewer at amazon is not a liar but you would prefer to think that rather than check for user error? Read this thread before you try to install again, there is important info about il2 and vista: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/1921070116 Also check this thread for new users: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/9121094645 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flying online as NORAD_Shinjiro |
