Hi - I normally fly with my trusty old Speedlink Black Widow, but recently tried my 360 flightstick (AV8R-02) and hit a snag.

In the PC mode (mode 2) the trigger and thumb button turn into Z-axis! I can't select them as fire buttons at all. In Mode 1, it just doesn't fly owing to the throttle not working for some reason.

The main reason I wanted to try it was to see how the 'twistgrip' rudder performs in IL-2 compared to my SpBW's throttle mounted rudder rocker. I'm considering upgrading to a Saitek X52 type of stick in the future and didn't want to discover that the twist rudder is ungainly for me in the game.

Unless I can shoot things while flying I won't get a feel for the controls, if that makes sense? Now, obviously I don't NEED to get this working, but someone said that Saitek do some PC config software that can fix this for me.

Does anyone know how it does so, and if it really could fix my trigger and thumbfire buttons on this particular stick, please?

UPDATE:

TRied the downloadable Saitek Driver and config for the AV8R (PC only version) and it doesn't work. Won't recognise that the Saitek AV8R02 is plugged in *sighs*

Ah well, was worth a try Wink

You could assign a keyboard key as your fire button as a temporary measure to see if you like the twist function. In fact, the Enter key is fire button by default.

I wasn't aware there was an Xbox 360 version of the Aviator, just the pc version. Have you guys contacted Saitek support?

Asked Saitek and got no response Roll Eyes

It is recognised as an XBox 360 controller by WinXP and that's the only driver that works for it.

I got round it by hooking up my Nostromo N52 and switching the throttle to the mouse wheel on that device. This lets me fly 'HOTAS' and use some of the N52 keys as gunnery inputs. (I also set the flaps/cockpit and gear to the d-pad and I'm really liking that for landings!)

I love the twist rudder and it gives me much better control than the SL-BW's rocker switch so I've ordered a PC twist stick now and I'll keep the "360 and PC" AV8R-02 for the 360 where it seems happiest.

At least I'll have a decent stick ready when the console Birds of Prey launches Veryhappy

Try with JoyToKey, he allows that axis work as key.
