Under full load, I would guess it's maybe using 400-425W peak, prolly 350 average if that.

Actually, it's closer to 500W. Those 3870 X2s are hungry beasts.
I have a Corsair 620HX in here. It's been running this system 24/7 for over 2 years now. It hasn't changed other than I replaced the original 4800+ X2 with an X4 940. |

Soundblaster XtremeGamer does Not work under Vista or Windows exept for games using OpenAL sound like Race Driver GRID and Bioshock.
Vista and Windows 7 decode DirectX sound internaly, so all the Soundcard can do with the data it gets than is pas it straight trough. For games using DirectX Directsound3D like FarCry 2 and Silent Hunter you can use Creative ALChemy to convert it to OpenAL so it becomes useable for the card again. For games using DirectX Directsound like IL2-1946 or Crysis there is no way to use any Soundhardware acceleration or effects under Vista or Windows 7. The Onboard Audio on your Motherboard (Realtek HDA) is really good and even far better than the X-Fi XtremeGamer if you use the Digital Output to conect it to a Home Theater System. (And X-Fi has only Stereo digital output, Realtek HDA has multi channel digital output) So keep that in mind if you think about buying a Soundcard. On the last part about the nVidia cards you are spot on, nVidia stopt making GeForce 200 GPU's, so we have to wait till end of 1Q 2010 for the new cards comming out. And do you really need a 1000W PSU?

Good choices all over, but I think you´re over-killing it by going with a 1000W PSU.
Not only are 1000W PSUs more expensive, they are also heavier on your power bill as well as in heat generation. With the possible specs you posted, you can go by with a 600W to 750W PSU with no probs unless you want to do Tri-SLI or QuadFire, that is, use 3 Nvidia cards or 4 ATI ones. As an example, I´m running a Core i7 920 CPU with an ASUS P6T mobo, 6 Gigs of triple channel DDR3 ram, 2 HDDs (1 SATA and 1 EIDE), DVD burner and flash card reader plus an ATI HD4870 1Gb card; all on an ANTEC 550W 3 year old PSU. And according to ANTEC´s web based PSU calculator, I still have about 100W spare power. I´m just upgrading to a 700W PSU in order to replace the ATI 4870 with 2 5850s in Crossfire, and even then, I´ll have about the same 100W spare power. And by the way, if you´re gonna build before xmas, go with an ATI 5800 series card in order to future-proof your new rig. Else, wait and see until Nvidia releases its new lineup to get more options, if any are available. My 2 cents. P.S. NSD_Camp is right about not needing a discrete sound card unless you wanna do some serious sound editing work. Realtek integrated HD DSPs are nowadays pretty good. ====================================== Intel Core i7 920 @ 3Ghz, ASUS P6T mobo, 6GB Markvision DDR3-1333 ram, Sapphire Radeon HD4870 1GB, 500GB Maxtor SATA2 HD, Coolmax CTI 700W PSU. We don't know what Graphics Card LEBillfish is going to take, it could even be 2, so its a bit early to start about what PSU would be good enough for the job.
The Antec PSU calculator gives you a Minimum, so its smart to go over that by about 100 Watt's to be safe. AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Black Edition, Foxconn nForce 590 SLI, 4x OCZ 2048MB EPP DDR2-800, 2x Club3D GeForce 8800GT 512MB, Be-Quiet 700 Watt Straight Power, Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit |

........and based upon that as well as others, also considering overclocking which I know nothing about yet the 1156 components from what I'm reading handle very well, states that an 850w would be fine with a single card (using a 285 2Gb as a baseline), yet I'd need 1,048w with 2 GPU.... Consider as well their wear factoring is based on a PSU being new, and then a year old.....We're talking letting it run 5 years. Lastly, an 850w at $200, or a 1,000w at $220....So you can see where $20 simply does not mean much compared to some longevity (the option being spending $200+ twice). K2 |

nVidia seems to have a trick up its sleeve, and thats why it stopt making the GeForce 200 series.
There releasing a new Graphics card together with EVGA the 30th of October and said its not the Fermi (GT300)... So who knows, maybe they got something really intresting to show us this time (price/perfomance) AMD Athlon 64 X2 6400+ Black Edition, Foxconn nForce 590 SLI, 4x OCZ 2048MB EPP DDR2-800, 2x Club3D GeForce 8800GT 512MB, Be-Quiet 700 Watt Straight Power, Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit |

I just put togther a system I am very hppy with for £150 (using old parts like DVD drive,Case etc)
E6750 C2D 8800GTS 320mb 2gb RAM MSI P31 NEO motherboard A system like this would not break the bank and be 20 times as fast as your old Pentium. EDIT : Nevermind, I am late in the thread ------------------------------------------------------------- "Over Dieppe, the wing was immediately bounced by a hundred FW 190s and a few Me 109s. I heard Johnson effing and blinding as he broke 610 into a fierce attack. I was hard at it dodging 190s, but I found time to speak sharply to Johnson about his foul language." - WingCo Jaime Jameson 12 Group Spitfire |

A good PSU is a heavy PSU, lol. I noticed this when I first started getting serious about building good computers, I had messed around with rebuilding old dells and gateways and such and those PSU's were light as feathers, then I got my first REAL PSU, the old OCZ Powerstream 600W (still going strong running a AthlonXP barton core and an ATI 9800pro!), what a beast for it's day, and it too weighed a ton ,lol.

ROFL Just wait until you have that puppy in your hot little hands. Corsair PSUs just have 'quality' stamped all over them. They do EVERYTHING right, including the packaging. |

She was a killer on her old rig.. wait till the upgrade...... That all looks good.. and if there is one component that you want to go beyond your needs on it is the PS. |
