I'll start by saying 4.08m runs perfectly.

I've applied the 4.09b1m patch applied over 4.08. I use the switcher (4.09b1).

When the game loads, it shows I'm loading 4.09b1m.

I try to connect to a server who says he's using 4.09m and get the incompatible error message.

Is the 4.09b1m the latest authorized patch?

If not, what is the url for it? Can I apply it directly over the current install?

There's gotta be 2 or 3 different versions of this on the go now.

I'm so confused.

4.09b is the beta that came out something like a year or so ago and 4.09m is the final release that came out maybe 2 or 3 weeks ago. If you are using the switcher then I think you have the mod version and remember we can't give technical help with mod stuff.


But I would make a clean unmodded install with 4.09m, and keep your mod version so you can use 4.08m online for 4.08m servers, that's what I did.

Hmm. Guess I had the modded one without knowing it. Had just followed links here.

The "m" in 4.09m does stand for merged. 4.09b1m is the "beta" patch.

Remember guys, there were version switchers long before mods.

Oops, I did not know that. What is the switcher called and where can I get it? It would be nice to switch from 4.08m to 4.09m on my unmodded game so I could play on whatever server I want.

There are several switchers at M4T. I don't think any have been update fro 4.09, but since it's all batch files to move around sfs files etc it shouldn't be too hard to edit to work for 4.09.

OK. So here's the update:

I do NOT have a backup of 4.08m. I must have deleted it when the 4.08m and 4.09b1m worked successfully.

SO my question is now:

1)I have the 4.08m/4.09b1m now and I use the switcher as previously described.

2) I have the 4.09m official patch downloaded. Can I just apply that over the 4.08m as it exists now??

(I'll do a back up of the entire folder as a precaution).

Yeah, 4.09 will install over 4.08 or the 4.09b just fine. What I would do is extract the patch to a separate folder, look in the switcher folder for 4.09b and copy the 4.09 version of those files into it, then copy all the 4.09 files into the game folder. You should then be able to switch between 4.08 and 4.09.

In an aside, I tried just patching 4.09m straight into the game folder in a "normal" manner.

After application, it would not run at all. It was "switched" to 4.08m at the time (ran as it was supposed to b4 the application of the patch).

As suggested, I unzipped the patch into an empty folder then all I did was eliminate the files that were already in the ubisoft directory that matched what was in the 4.09m patch and I was left with only the .sfs file.

Placed that file in the 09b1 switcher folder instead of the one in there (replaces beta patch .sfs file) and bingo: 4.09m works as it's supposed to.

I now realize there was another issue that may have been the reason why 4.09m wouldn't run properly over top of my 4.08m version: the 4.09m patch application actually reversed a previous fix that I had to use to get it to run (two of the dll files had to be replaced from a previous install so that my system would run properly).

I now have 4.08m and 4.09m using the switcher from the original beta patch version.
