Hi i'm having problems with my nvidia geforce 7600gt. This happens in il2 as well as FPS games like DODS.

Ill be playing for 10 minutes with great frames per second, then all of the sudden it drops for about 2 to 3 minutes. It jumps back up to around50 or 60 and then drops back to annoying and unplayable frames.

iv un-installed all drivers, cleaned them out, installed the oldest ones, installed the newest ones look for fix's all over the net and nothing.

Hope one of you boys can help me, thanks heaps.

This could be an overheating problem. Check the fan on your graphics card to make sure that it keeps running and is not dirty or 'fluffed-up'.
Check also that the inside of your case is not too untidy, and re-route any cables that might be obstructing the flow of air through the case. Check the case fans and filters likewise.

Try the old trick of taking the side door off the case and pointing a desk fan in there. Play the game and see if you have the same problems.

I agree with brando but will add this, if it is not a heat issue try and see if it's not a background program taking up resouces, like a virus scan or defrager.

I used to have a similar problem with my NVidia 7600GS but in a lesser degree. After about every 5 minutes or so my FPS dropped down for a few seconds.
This is my solution when I play IL2: I shut down my internetconnection and after doing this the FPS drop down slightly for two seconds once in a while.
So it would't suprise if that's the case just like Urufu_Shinjiro says. There are more programs running in the background than expected!

Download HWMonitor from www.cpuid.com and run it while your playing, just play as usual, wen your finished playing chech the Max tempratures HWMonitor has registered.

BTW, whats are your System specs and what 7600GT you got, and is it AGP or PCI-E?

Its a 7600Gt PCI-E and i have a core 2 duo 3.40ghz
2 gig ram etc

You might want to try some older drivers with the 7600 GT. My 7600 doesn't do as well with the latest drivers. I am running Forceware Release 169.21 dated Dec.19 2007. They seem to work better than the newer releases I've tried.

It's a Pentium D, not a Core2Duo...

There should also be later chipset drivers available for that motherboard.
(Don't think installing them will fix your problem...)

Sound drivers also look a bit dated...

Main things to check are still the temperatures, and background processess..

The only thing i see wrong with your system is it has Soundmax onboard audio wich could be the cause of the problem you discribed.
It can freeze or crash the game and even crash your whole system, especaly if you use full hardware acceleration on it.

I recomend a Soundblaster X-Fi XtremeGamer, its the cheapest of the "real" X-Fi's (XtremeAudio doesnt have a X-Fi procesor) and its optimized for gaming but is great for music and movies also.

I had the same thing on my old rig, including crashes wen things got really hectic like on a bombing run droping a lot of bombs.
Was convinced it was my 6800GT videocard, but wen i upgraded to a 7600GT the problem stayed exactly the same.

I bought an X-Fi because i wanted better sound for games and music and i was stunned, all the problems i had with FPS, stuttering and crashes where gone...

And also, regarding sound card:
In Dxdiag, at the Sound tab, lower hardware accelleration to standard. (Move the slider one notch the left.)

And in IL2Setup.exe, under Sound tab, uncheck 'Audio Enhancements and hardware accelleration'.

It reminds me that my FPS dropped down too considerabely, not just because I didn't shut down my internet connection but my FPS became worse after I changed my sound settings in the Set Up screen. I wanted to have the best quality of course but you have to make a choice between quality and perfomance. Compromise, compromise that's the keyword. After some experiments with changing soundsettings and shutting down the internet connection my FPS increased a lot.

thanks for ur comments guys but the thing is, this never happened to me before up until a the start of this year, before that i was using the older drivers like 91.xx or whatever. When i updated the drivers it started stuttering, i changed back and forth but the problems wont go away. iv never had to change anything to do with sound for performance the game runs fine even in high traffic times. Is there anything else i can do.

p.s were can i find updates for my sound drivers

93.71 drivers are the best for your Videocard.

Think windows update should provide you with the latest drivers for your onboard audio...

I just had my computer reformatted, and a clean install of xp and il2. All drivers updated etc...........yet the same thing keeps hapeneing, every 5 min the game will drop to unplayable fps......im at a loos of what to do, i dont think its a heat problem. Anything else i can do?
