I'm running the Windows 7 beta and I thought I had hyperlobby working but...
It starts IL2, but IL2 just "Stops Working" (Windows Tech talk) immediately. I can run IL2 standalone just fine. I've alos made a BAT file that start IL2 in the same manner as Hyperlobby to run on an online server--that works fine too. It just won't start right from Hyperlobby. Hyperlobby is set to run in Win 98 comp mode and as Admin. Also, the little trick where you press CTLR and click connect to re-find IL2FB.EXE doesn't work either. Any ideas? That should be "Ctrl+Shift" and click connect. --------------------- Regards, Tully Joysticks & IL2/FB/PF | IL2Sticks Utility IL2JoyControl Utility | See How It Flies |

Thanks Tully. I was totally brain dead on that one. I should have know.
So I tried that and it finds the il2fb.exe file in the right place, but then it always gives me the message "Hyperlobby can't found game installation..." ("found" is the spelling in the message). The game folder structure is exactly the same folder structure I use under Vista, which works fine. Well, I finally got hyperlobby to take the game path by setting compatability mode for both the dexec.exe and aping.exe files. But, now I'm back to sqaure one. It attempts to start IL-2, but it never comes up. If you click the task bar icon before IL-2 closes, you get the windows "Stopped Working" message then it just closes.
I can start an IL-2 onliine session with my .bat file, or connect to the server from the Multiplay window in the game. Well, now IL-2 will not run at all no matter how I start it. I was playing on-line from Windows 7 yesterday using all the same settings.
This is the exact same symptom as when you try to start IL-2 with a screen res. that is not supported by your graphics card. I'm thinking there has been an update to the graphics stuff overnight or something. SOLVED. IL-2 aparently can not be run in Win 98 compatability mode. I was fooling aroud with that yesterday. IL-2 and hyperlobby work fine in XP compatibility mode. All is well with the world, for now.

I found that it needed to use win98 mode to find the il2fb.exe and get it to stick, after that turned off the compatibility mode and all is well.

Be sure you have selected the Forgotten Battles room in hyperlobby. This is easy to forget. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flying online as NORAD_Shinjiro |

Maybe they addressed this issue and fixed it in the Windows 7 RC. The RC will be available on the 5th of this month for all that are interested in running it. I, for one, will be running the 64-bit version.

Me too, and the RC should be the ultimate version so we can also run and test the beta XP Mode if you have hardware virtualization on your CPU. The RC will be activated for a little over a year so those that are building new machines might want to go ahead and run the Win7 RC until it's released for sale, estimates point to late Oct.

The best way i found is to install your game and your hyperlobby software in another folder than the default ones
I happen to get everything working fine without any previous OSes compatibly mode by installing my game into C:\Users\Public\Games\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\ and hyperlobby into C:\Users\Public\Games\Hyperlobby 3.xx\ So hyperlobby finds the game, and actually it worked. Figured it out since some games need to be installed that way (world of warcraft for example) in order to install and work properly It is a windows Seven particularity, and could also work on Vista |
