I'm having trouble running IL2 at 1280x1024 resolution in DirectX mode. It produces a graphic artifact at the top and bottom of the screen, as if a squashed image is being projected over a correctly sized one. Like this:
OGL works fine. I'm just trying out the HDR effects, as posted here.
EDIT: My mistake, I haven't fixed the error yet. And now I suspect the bug comes from the HDR patch itself, since without it, full screen works fine.
In case someone is curious, here's the same scene in OGL Perfect settings. Note the lesser intensity of the sun glare, and the lighter shadows cast in OGL mode.

That doesn't mean it should not run fine in DX mode. I ran in DX from IL2 demo all the way until I got my new PC a month ago. Never had a bit of problem with it. Does "optmized for OGL" equal "won't run correctly in DX"?? I think not.
His problem should be fixable but I have no idea myself what's wrong.
Well there are certain settings that do not apply or work when running in DX. If not being able to run in Perfect Landscape & having the water look like bad outdoor carpeting, & the sim looking its' best isn't important to you, then have at it. I for one get worse performance in DX than OpenGL.

For some reason on my old computer ( really old ) it always gave me better frames on DX so I ran with it. With OGL, I'd get super low drops in frames during bomb bursts or helacious ground fire. In DX it wasn't so bad. Luckily my new technology PC runs really well in GL!! It does look better than DX.
You know I just tried running a few missions in DX. And to my surprise it wasn't to bad as I remembered as far as IQ goes. The water is the most abnormal looking to me. But that is because I have been used to running OGL and water set to =2. As far as fr's go DX was a little slower, but not by much. The last time I had tried DX was on a different & allot older computer. That may be why I got the initial impression I did. But on my current and allot newer (stronger) computer, DX isn't bad at all.
