Hi,

I was having some problems with IL2 crashing and at first I did not think it was a heat issue. Now I'm not so sure. Here is a screenshot of the Speedfan readings for my system while IL2 is running.

Core 0 temperature actually peaks at 69C. GPU peaks at around 62C

Is this too hot?

Thanks

Good hunting,

Your GPU temp doesn't appear to be too bad. ATI says that you shoudn't worry about overheating with their cards until you get very close to 100C.

Your CPU does seem to be on the 'warm' side, but there again, it all depends on which CPU it is, some run hotter than others,

It would help to know just what video card you are using, and what CPU as well.

Also, were either of them running a lot cooler in the past? If so it might be wise to get some canned air, open up the case, and blow out the dust. Especially if you have not done that in the last 6 months or so.

Since you have an Intel CPU, download Intel's TAT (Thermal Analysis Tool) from some "overclock/cooling" sites, it's not available at Intel...
It reads temps more precisely.

I would use HWmonitor, you leave it running in the back ground while playing and wen you exit the game you can see the current, max, and minimum tempratures and voltages it registered.

If your components dont go over 70°c you dont need to worry.
If you get tempratures above that a lot i would see if you could do something to improve the cooling.

Graphics card temp is ok / normal, but your cpu is definitely running hotter than I would expect.

I'm using a Core 2 E8200 (2.66GHz) and even after long period gaming the temps only go into low 40C's. For a non-overclocked E8500 your temps do suggest something amiss.

I have replaced the stock intel cpu cooler with a higher performing model, but even when I was using the stock cooler temps would RARELY make it to 50C.

Has the high temp reading only started recently or was it present long term?

May possibly (?) be that the cpu cooler/ heatsink is not properly seated? If you can remove a panel from your PC and examine the BACK of the motherboard you could check that the black pins of the cpu cooler are properly pushed through to the underside of your motherboard.

Thanks for the advice, my system is only a few weeks old so it may very well be something loose. In any case I'll look into getting a beeffier heat sink/extra fans.

Thanks again

Make sure nothing is interupting with the airflow trough the case, and really make sure the CPU cooler is fitted correctly.

Im guessing its a custom/shop build rig?

Yes it is, and I will look under the hood and make sure everything is ok.

I went into the BIOS and changed the fan speed settings there and it looks like I have the heat issue solved...for now Veryhappy

Thats an easy fix than, did they lock the fanspeed or doesnt it have an Auto setting?

Don't rely on these temp measurements too much. They have huge deviations. The technology used to measure temps on motherboards/chips is very inprecise.

As an example: Speedfan will often indicate a temp of 11 Celcius for Core 0 on my Atom 330. Even if the ambient temp is 20C or higher. I highly doubt the tiny fan in my system is able to cool a working processor down more than 10 degrees below ambient. Meanwhile the exit air from my case feals warm, so it is more than 37C in there.

Hi NDS_Camp,

In the BIOS there you can select a 'noise' mode, quiet, semi-quiet or performance which regulates the fan speeds. I set mine for ramming speed Wink

Just to mention if you have a Logitech G-15 Keyboard it will display the temps on the built in screen so you can also see in game too
