Has anyone grafted an X52 handle onto another joystick? Was it hard? I have a FFB Guillimot spare and was thinking of doing that instead of an X65.

I've put a Guillemot's grip onto an MS FFB2 body.

It's do-able, lots of fiddlin' and solderin' Cool

If you want to put the X52's handle on the Guillemot, you will have a big challenge: You'll need to put the complete electronics of the X52 somewhere inside the Guillemot's base. You have to keep all of the Guillemots electronics, otherwise you'd loose the FFB. In tthe end you will have two controllers in Control Panel, both the Guillemot and the X52.

As the X52's handle has way more switches than the Guillemot's, you cannot simply rewire the buttons like I did.

What I planned to do was keep the X52 unit and extend the wires to link the new handle on the Guillimot to the X52 base unit, A German guy had a site called Left Field or something and he had fitted a CH handle to a Sidewinder and was going to sell kits to extend sticks and stuff. The site is now deadFrown Big thinks are now in order.
Nice job FT Clap

Sounds like a good plan to me.

Hello IL2 community. Just recently joined and I was wondering if anybody can share their success in extending a CH Fighterstick,or any stick for that matter, for use in a IL2FB simpit? I recently put together a FW190 pit and I would like to imitate the KG13 stick. Thank you so much for taking valuable time to answer.

It's not something I've done myself, but it's something I'm thinking of doing to fill the dark winter nights coming up. This guide is pretty good http://www.flightsim.com/main/howto/joystick.htm

That cone looks like it'd have some pretty bad slack around center position.

IMO - Bad approach in this link, maybe work for Flight Simulator, but to IL-2 combat, I doubt.
To do this to long, better made a new gimbal system like Julian U-Joint, or one describe in Mike Powel book BRFS sample:
http://www.mikesflightdeck.com/upcoming_book.htm

To extend commercial joystick, is better don't go below the chair level.

Thanks Sokol for the great links. I have been wrestling with the idea of extending my CH Flightstick for quite some time. My concern is how much control will be lost by extending. From reading the forums it seems quite minimal if it's done properly. I wish the first part to this subject was still available. In any case the search for more knowledge continues. A lot of talented people on this site. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with others. It is what inspires greater things.

I have just finished the 3rd upgrade to my pedals.
I modded my X52 throttle to use external trim pot for elevator trim, using a trim wheel. The trim wheel is glued on the X52, but connected on the pedals' controller.

Pedals:
I used pneumatic rods as centering mechanism, so it is much more power full.

Trim Wheel:
I used some LEGO gear and a large LEGO MOTOX wheel (81mm~4") to do it.

Great work, NuMcA. I like the look of the trim wheel. Is that a 270° turn pot? You could replace it with a 10-turn pot and remove the gearing altogether, it should give you more control.

Unfortunately there are not any 330K multiturn pots in the market.. Only custom-made which means BIIIIIG money.. That is why i used 270° turn. I need 330K because that is how have my controller programmed to work with. It is a 8-bit ADC controller. I get 1 position every 3.51°.

330k? So is it hooked up to the throttle instead of the BU086?

Edit: I've just re-read your post and realise that it is connected to the X52. That's a great hack! bow

It is hooked on the pedals, which have a half-chinese, half-NuMcish controller (hacked USB to gameport controller)..

Edit: changed the previous post to clarify it, my bad.
