I'm a newbie. I am trying to run
< ubisoft: sturmovik 1946 > using a <Thrustmaster 16000M > joystick

The problem I am having is as follows:
The <Thrustmaster 16000M > joystick operates the
X-Y axis (roll,pitch)
the RZ axis (yaw)
the throttle (slider)
as expected

QUESTION
Why don't the 14 buttons (including the trigger)
cause ANY response in the 'window' which is opened in HOTAS controls or to the 'window' of any of the keyboard controls ?

How can these buttons be assigned to the control functions listed bekow ?

desired button assignment

Welcome here Marty!

The buttons on the Thrustmaster stick (or any game controller) should and will respond and get assigned if you first click the left mouse button on the right opart of the screen.
Next a box will appear, and then you can press the button you want assigned.

Looks kinda like this:

Multicontrollered pil2ots in need of tuning sensitivity settings: IL2-Sticks
or IL2 Joy Control (By Oleg_BS). To print your Mission Briefing: MissPrint

Because the window in Controls is NOT for test buttons (and axis) - to test this go to Windows Control Panel > Games controllers.

The window in IL-2 GUI is for assign controls, like FoolTrottel explained.

An is very easy to do. Wink2

Good luck.

Also, the HOTAS section is for axis and sliders only, not buttons.

I thank you for each of your responses, ...
Your different responses triggered some correct thinking on my part.

After some time and experimenting, I found that the "joybutton" word in < ubisoft: sturmovik 1946 ; [CONTROLS ] > refers to a joy stick button.

I also discovered how to change keyboard assignments in < ubisoft: sturmovik 1946 ; [CONTROLS ] > to "joybutton 1" (or 2,3...16)assignments.

By the way, hitting <START > key on then keyboard causes the game to be minimized .

This is important to me, since, computer can be then used to make notes on < ubisoft: sturmovik 1946 > , the game resumed,...<START > ...more notes...etc.

Thanks for the help, without the crucial trigger of your responses, I am CERTAIN that I would NEVER have solved my problem.
