This is really cool. Finally we have the FOV separated from the zoom.

Well, I did finally download this app and played around with it for a while. It does seem to work. However, I did find some bugs/peculiarities that really should be addressed.
For instance, the only thing that can be assigned as hot keys are the letters of the alphabet. This may not seem like a big issue, but depending on your hardware setup, it could be a hindrance. It would be nice to have additional keys to configure. This little problem also comes into play if you are online and decide to use the chat. You see, whatever letters you assigned for hot keys will be activated if they are typed into your chat message. So, if your 'Increase FOV' command is the 'h' key and you type 'hello' into your chat bar, you will activate the 'Increase FOV' command with the 'h' in 'hello'. Since you can only assign letters of the alphabet as hot keys, this is a problem. I also encountered a situation where the program kept auto-starting while I was flying. I haven't figured out just why it did this. Also, I've had the functions lock up on me so I had to restart the program, which can be done on the fly. There was also an Acrobat file that came with the program, but I couldn't open it as the error message said it was corrupted. In any event, I've been to this guy's site, but there doesn't seem to be any way to get in touch with him to report these issues. To avoid the isues with the chat use one of the global keys togheter with your assigned keys. I use the Left ALT as global key and this way the comands don't interfere with the normal typing.
I usually disable the zoom feature of the 6DOF mod (*+keypad zero) as soon as I start the sortie. I cleared all the keys assigned to FOV. I assigned lAlt+J and lAlt+K for the increase/decrease FOV in the program and made a macro for the same key combination in the throttle profile. It works quite smooth. The program does restart from time to time by itself in game for some reason. I know it was made for Vista. I'm on Xp. This may be the problem. Anyway in general, I think this program has a lot of potential. TIR 4 Pro -$25 Off- From Forgotten Assassins "Never have I seen so beautiful an airplane. That is unfortuantley the one downside of the program, its on all platforms that it sometimes stops working. However its not a show stopper, because the first you know it has is when you go to change, and it re initalises itself anyway, and goes to the view you wanted, which as i only zoom in to shoot, isn't a problem as the default re-inialisation fov is zoomed in ready to shoot! I actually think i prefer 6dof with zoom turned of now! Anyways, for anyone who wishes to get in contact or foollow the progress, the author has this thread here, http://www.kegetys.net/forum/index.php?topic=999.0 cheers fruitbat U___1)Nazi Germany built all the best things and won teh war. I don't use TrackIr or 6DOF. I also had some corrupted graphics when testing this with the Hurricane, but none with a P-38.
It's a cool program, but it needs some serious work before I would use it on a full-time basis. I have some corrupeted graphics also occasionally, when swapping between views, don't think its type dependant, but as soon as i reinitalised manually they went away. I agree that its still beta, as indeed it is listed on the web page, but i think it has serious potential, and is already very good, and i'm happy to keep using it offline. One thing is certain, I will be following the progress of this for sure. fruitbat U___1)Nazi Germany built all the best things and won teh war. I agree that for offline play, it's an interesting program. However, I play mostly online and I really can't afford to have these constant glitches popping up during a mission.
I did post on the other site so maybe some of the issues can possibly be addressed. BTW, you're right about the corrupted graphics not being type-dependant. I've already seen them on the P-38 too. Version 1.02 works in vista and Windows 7.
I tested in Windows seven and apparently works better than XP. I use, as Jaws does, a combo for FOV commands Shft+ZXCV so they don't interfere with the chat. When the program restarts it does so not as a bug but as a feature! In eraly betas you had to manualy restart it and sometimes close the application itself after Alt+TABing and restart it. The worst bug (and is occuring rarely now and is cleanable after some manual restart via "start keyboard command") is the so called "stikie cockpit" in which your cockpit stuck in your view... hard to explain how it looks but when you encounter it you will understand. All in all... no FPS loss (when doing calculations for first time after start/restart you may notice a bit of FPS loss) and a elegant solution. This "mod" works on any CRT=15 server. I always found the argument of people that higher FOV in widescreen is a cheat a lame argument... HOTAS, TIR, THtG,high rez/low rez are to be considered as such too but, they are in the game. Yea, the worst bug is when the view gets stuck. There is an 'Auto reactivate' option, which restarts the program as you are flying.
However, the restart sequence lasts about 15 seconds. During this time, any commands I try to use seem to be delayed. This can be dangerous, especially during something like a dogfight. Once, this restart sequence kept repeating and repeating. That was totally unacceptable. I was able to turn off the Auto reactivate and now I restart the program with a hot key command when the view locks up. If the locking up issue can be resolved, this could be a very useful program. WOW
THANKS for the heads up fruitbat, this is HUGE, I have spent countless hours at the wide screen forums and with matrox trying to get someone to address the TH2G IL2 FOV problem. And finaly someone has pulled it off! |

When I test the config it just says it cant connect to IL2. I have IL2 1946 4.08/4.09 with the AAA.com switcher. I am running windows 7 and installed the v1.0.6.9 version. What am I doing wrong? It says to check if il2fb.exe or il2.exe is the file name. Mine is il2fb.exe, but I have renamed it both and it still doesnt work either way. Also, I edited my config.ini file to add the lines:
DeviceLink] port=1711 just like that. I have the file called devicelink.txt as well. Is there a certain place I am supposed to add those lines in the config file? Nevermind, it is working, but the test button in the settings window does not appear to do anything. I am also getting graphics problems with the wings being hidden it seems. |

Can you cause the 6DOF zoom feature to be disabled by default? ---------------- Flying online as nate85 "I can buy a scalpel, that doesn't make me a surgeon." - M_Gunz |

Bump for this.
Just got around to trying the latest version of this, the release candidate, and wow, all the anoying bits of it are cured, works seamlessly and instantly for me, his new site is here http://il2fovchanger.byethost7.com/ and a direct link to the app here http://il2fovchanger.byethost7...L2_FovChanger_RC.zip fruitbat U___1)Nazi Germany built all the best things and won teh war. I don't know much about 6DOF, never had it. But did I understand correctly that people use the wide screen view ( page down key by default )??
I would never do that because then your outside view is unmagnified, everything outside the cockpit looks smaller than it's supposed to. I only use normal view and never, never use gun sight view. |

its nothing to do with 6dof, its proper widescreen for il2, and its not a mod, and can be used with 4.09, if you read the thread it explains.
I always fly in the widescreen view for general crusing, ie 'page down by default', and until this app, you couldn't do that in widescreen, only in 4:3 ratios.
