What Audio devices, apart from the onboard soundcard, are in your computer, or connected to it?

The only audio related stuff besides my onboard sound card is my speaker set up. I don't have an independent sound card or anything like that though.
I think the modem lines you mentioned are something old that I never could figure out how to remove, but they are not in use or set as a default for anything, so I don't think they are causing the problem. |

Still, they are there, they do show up in the available sound devices... Can you disable them in Device Manager? Multicontrollered pil2ots in need of tuning sensitivity settings: IL2-Sticks or IL2 Joy Control (By Oleg_BS). To print your Mission Briefing: MissPrint |

The thing is is that they don't show up in device manager.
I don't see anything called that and just doing a brief check shows that the only things I can disable under sound controllers are my current audio drivers(Nvidia HDMI Audio and Realtek High Def Audio.) |

I didn't know the 9800 has HDMI... If you do not use it, disable it, it's worth trying I think... (Then again, modem line? From the DxDiag:
that second line looks a bit weird... wouldn't know if it'd be causing the problem, or how to fix it... Multicontrollered pil2ots in need of tuning sensitivity settings: IL2-Sticks or IL2 Joy Control (By Oleg_BS). To print your Mission Briefing: MissPrint |

Disabling the Nvidia HDMI Audio and running on safe sound settings did not work.

I'm stumped, for now...

Did you install the drivers for your Network Interface Card? I'm not seeing those. I do see the modem lines FT noticed too.
FAT32 is no problem. I've run IL-2 from it for ages. Used it to circumvent the insane Access Control List mechanism of NTFS. Also, did you try installing DirectX again? You might need to disable the HDMI sound in the BIOS. |
||||
|
I'm not sure about the Network interface card drivers. If they were something that came with the mobo(I know it is not something separate in the computer) then it is installed, but I wouldn't know where to go for updates.
Disabling HDMI in Bios disables all sound on my computer. Reinstalling DirectX had no effect. |

NIC drivers are often part of the chipset drivers. On many motherboards they have to be installed seperately from the rest by explicitely installing them though.
Are you sure you checked HDMI audio in the BIOS and not HD Audio? - I find it a bit strange your computer sound would disable when you disable an unused HDMI sound. HD Audio is delivered over front/back audio jackplus. HDMI over the video HDMI connector. Does GPU-Z identify your motherboard? - that might lead us a step further. We are essentially working in the dark not knowing what exact motherboard you have. |
||||
|
My mobo is a XFX nForce 750a SLI motherboard.
GPU-Z did not give me any information about it, only about my graphics card. Is there an option or something I am missing in GPU-Z? I did turn off HD audio, so that was the deal there, and I can't turn off HDMI audio it only has settings of auto and enabled(set to auto). |

I think what Max meant was CPU-Z ...

okay, CPU-Z identifies my mobo's chipset and model as follows:
Mainboard Model MD-A72P-7509 Chipset Northbridge = NVIDIA nForce 740a SLI rev. A2 Southbridge = NVIDIA nForce 740a SLI MCP rev. A2 Graphic Interface = PCI-Express PCI-E Link Width = x16 PCI-E Max Link Width = x16 Memory Type = DDR2 Memory Size = 4096 MBytes Channels = Dual Memory Frequency = 357.2 MHz (CPU/7) CAS# latency (CL) = 5.0 RAS# to CAS# delay (tRCD) = 5 RAS# Precharge (tRP) = 5 Cycle Time (tRAS) = 18 Bank Cycle Time (tRC) = 24 Command Rate (CR) = 2T ==================== Does that help? Also is it strange that everything to do with my mobo shows it as 750a instead of the 740a that CPU-Z is telling me it is? |

Interesting. I looked up your motherboard.
The onboard graphics supports the HDMI. (I did mean GPU-Z as the GPU is the one supporting HDMI, including the HDMI audio). I assume you did disable the onboard graphics in BIOS, as I assume you are not running an SLI board with PCIe x16 with onboard graphics. I think if you disable onboard graphics in BIOS, the HDMI will be disabled too. I am not familiar with SLI and unsure if it has a native mode where integrated graphics can work in SLI with the PCIe card(s) without a connecting bridge. If it can work this way you would not want to disable onboard graphics. If the BIOS has a setting for PnP OS, did you try to change that setting? With PnP OS disabled the BIOS will assign IRQ resources etc. If it is enabled the resources will be assigned by the OS. |

Okay I need to make a correction to what I said earlier about the HD, HDMI audio thing.
The option I set to disabled that stopped all sound on my comp was called "HDMI/DVI". It is now enabled. Edit: My BIOS had PnP OS set to no. I switched it to yes, and it had no effect upon IL-2. It still refuses to run with sound enabled. This message has been edited. Last edited by: XenomorphII, |

Not on an LCD, 60hz is native for most LCDs. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Flying online as NORAD_Shinjiro |

60hz is native to my monitor and the only option available for my monitor.

So I still have not gotten the game to run with sound enabled. In the sound.log it says:
=============================== -- new session -- ERROR !Cannot get DirectSound interface ! cannot open file for reading Cannot open audio file samples/Jumo211_2701.wav cannot open file for reading Cannot open audio file samples/xJumo211_2701.wav =============================== When I went into the samples folder, the file referenced there is not present. Could this be what is causing the problem? If so where can I find this audio file? Any other ideas about what might be causing a crash on load with sound enabled? |

Now here's some new info.
Looks like you are using an 1946 with MODS installed now. Tell us, are you using any MODS? If you have mods installed I would advise doing a fresh install to see if mods caused your problem. If you find that mods are the problem you will have to go to where you got the mod for help. If you still have the problem after doing a clean install we can help you. Well I have the AAA unified installer, but I have it set to just be running Il2 v4.08 without mods(I downloaded it though sometime after you had helped me get the game to run w/o sound).
I have loaded it up before(4.08 w mods from the AAA unified installer), but again that was after having encountered the crash from sound issue, and I set it back to the no mods 4.08 after playing with it some. Do you think I should still do a fresh install? I will have to re-download the IL-2 installer so I want to be sure before moving ahead. |
