Some have had trouble installing on vista but all you have to do is explore the dvd and run A.exe (I think it was A).

Installing seems to go fine for me but running it is a nightmare Frown It just doesn't work and I'm beginning to believe it's SecuROM (UK version) and we've well and truly been given teh shaft by Ubi (Sorry but we have) at least Starforce had a fix!

I have been using Windows Vista since November and at first it wasn't the best with IL2. Now that I have the retail versions and the drivers have gotten better I can play online without any issues. I play on Winds of War and enjoy multi player action for many hours some nights or until the wife, well asks me to get off LOL. I do have to use the XP Compatibility mode for my X52 so all my profiles work. Other than that all works well.

I've had a few problems, but a couple of easy fixes and now no trouble at all (fingers crossed).

Yes, the setup file is A.exe. It will self-install.

Running A.exe doesn't work for me. I get Error -1607: Unable to Install InstallShield Scripting Run Time, and none of the fixes here http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108340 help. Sigh.

Has anyone got round the Securom problem, it keeps asking me to insert the original disk, which I have, and the fix on the website doesn't work as it includes steps that are not available in Vista?

If you've got Vista and its not running, use Launch Analysis (Securom proggy by def on Vista) on the right click menu.

I found out by watching il2fb.exe and noting that the analasys completed while it was still loading meant that the problem probably wasn't SecuRom.

I've had a similar problem before on this game, and I can't remember how I fixed it, something to do with sound drivers (Go figure).

All I see is the program get to approximately 64mb then it dissapears Smile

Hi all,
I have a different problem, the game goes to BSMD and restarts the damned machine after about 10 sec of gameplay. This problem occurs on my desktop running Vista Home Basic, Athlon 64 X2 4200+, 2GB 667 ram,GeForce 7900GS (600/1600). On my latpop running Vista Home Premium, Turion 64 X2 TL-50, 2GB 667 ram and GeForce 7600Go the game seems to run just fine, without any problems.
Both machines use different drivers for the GPU. I believe that the drivers on my desktop are older and this is the reason, but all the other games work great with them, so I have no idea ?!?!
Any help would be appreciated.
Best,
DK

I think there is specific directions that say Do NOT install to the default address in "Program Files" on Vista.

Another gig of memory will do wonders I'd say. Vista needs at least 2GB of memory to run smooth. And the sim uses the better part of 1GB of memory to run. I'd say you are hitting the page file quite often when you are running the game. If it were me running Vista & this sim, I would want to have 3GB of memory.

The above is just a thought of course, although it is a fact. Allot of things can cause lagginess. But with only 1GB of memory, this could very well be the culprit.

See if you can find out what video card is in there. Maybe run a dxdiag. and post the results.

Anyone running the sim under Vista should make sure that their power management option is set to "maximum" or "performance", and also make sure that all Aero features are turned off. Seriously consider disabling the neato indexing feature, as well
