Installing seems to go fine for me but running it is a nightmare It just doesn't work and I'm beginning to believe it's SecuROM (UK version) and we've well and truly been given teh shaft by Ubi (Sorry but we have) at least Starforce had a fix!
I have been using Windows Vista since November and at first it wasn't the best with IL2. Now that I have the retail versions and the drivers have gotten better I can play online without any issues. I play on Winds of War and enjoy multi player action for many hours some nights or until the wife, well asks me to get off LOL. I do have to use the XP Compatibility mode for my X52 so all my profiles work. Other than that all works well.
Well your info aint much help I cant seem to install il2 1946 ... I have just bought a new system with Vista on it ,,and cant install IL2 ,even when I go through cd and try to start manual install (setup.exe) the system just freezes.... any advice would be a great help ,,that link above just took me too the market place ........
Has anyone got round the Securom problem, it keeps asking me to insert the original disk, which I have, and the fix on the website doesn't work as it includes steps that are not available in Vista?
Hi all, I have a different problem, the game goes to BSMD and restarts the damned machine after about 10 sec of gameplay. This problem occurs on my desktop running Vista Home Basic, Athlon 64 X2 4200+, 2GB 667 ram,GeForce 7900GS (600/1600). On my latpop running Vista Home Premium, Turion 64 X2 TL-50, 2GB 667 ram and GeForce 7600Go the game seems to run just fine, without any problems. Both machines use different drivers for the GPU. I believe that the drivers on my desktop are older and this is the reason, but all the other games work great with them, so I have no idea ?!?! Any help would be appreciated. Best, DK
Another gig of memory will do wonders I'd say. Vista needs at least 2GB of memory to run smooth. And the sim uses the better part of 1GB of memory to run. I'd say you are hitting the page file quite often when you are running the game. If it were me running Vista & this sim, I would want to have 3GB of memory.
The above is just a thought of course, although it is a fact. Allot of things can cause lagginess. But with only 1GB of memory, this could very well be the culprit.
Anyone running the sim under Vista should make sure that their power management option is set to "maximum" or "performance", and also make sure that all Aero features are turned off. Seriously consider disabling the neato indexing feature, as well
