Vista will not let me save a modified conf in my IL2 directory. I am the owner and I (think at least) have administrative rights. Any ideas? Thanks!

Did you install into the program files directory? If so thats the problem, move the game folder out of program files into a folder of your choice and make sure the conf.ini is no longer "read-only" in the properties. Ah, I get it. Thanks for the info

On my computer it is hidden withing the C:\Users files instead of the main set of Il-2 files under C:\Program Files.
There is a conf.ini file in the program files, and to change it I have to take it out of that folder then put it back in after modifying it, but the game doesn't apply any of these modifications for some reason. The conf.ini that is under "users" allows modifying without any AOC issues, and is the one that the game actually uses. Let me know if you need to know where to look under "users," the series of folders to click on to get there is kind of ridiculous and not intuitive at all. I suppose there must be a way to configure the files better, but I'm too lazy to deal with it. ----------------- Farewell to freedom in the Adriatic and to the days of wild abandon. |

Ok, so I un-installed '46 and re-installed it in a new folder outside of "Program Files". I can edit the confg.ini and save it fine now, but the changes do not take effect when I start the game. I go back and check the config file and it is still modified (water=4 etc.). I looked in my /users folder for a different ini but found none for IL2. Any ideas? Thanks all!

I am trying to change the resolution to fit my monitor (LCD TV).
[il2] title=Il2-Sturmovik Forgotten Battles hotkeys=HotKey game [window] width=1360 height=768 ColourBits=32 DepthBits=24 StencilBits=8 ChangeScreenRes=1 FullScreen=1 DrawIfNotFocused=0 EnableResize=0 EnableClose=1 SaveAspect=1 Use3Renders=0 It plays in 1024x768 still though, even with this as my start of config file. |

on my computer the conf.ini that the game actually uses is located here:
C:\Users\(my Vista account's name)\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Ubisoft You will need to make hidden files visible just to get into AppData. complicated huh? ----------------- Farewell to freedom in the Adriatic and to the days of wild abandon. |

Man, this is driving me nuts! Ok so I gave myself full permission over the /Users folder, yet when I open that folder I can see a few things but still no /User/Chris-Morris/AppData.
Thanks for the help guys. |

Did you make hidden files visible?

here's what you do to make hidden files visible on Vista:
when looking in a folder for anything on your computer, go to "folder and search options" in the upper left hand of the windows explorer window... then hit the "view" tab at the top then under the long list of crud, go to "hidden files and folders" and click on "show hidden files and folders" then the AppData folder should show up under your account name. ----------------- Farewell to freedom in the Adriatic and to the days of wild abandon. |
