Radiator is the most annoying control of IL2.

Encoder is not suitable due specific number of positons in radiator (IMO).

I think in something like a 8 way rotary switch for this control:

http://www.directindustry.com/prod/carling-technologies...ch-31361-151266.html

1 - rad 2
2 - rad 4
3 - rad 6
4 - rad 8
5 - Open
6 - Open/Auto in P-38 ****
7 - Closed
8 - Not used

*** Position 6 need a associated ON-OF switch, for use with another planes that have only 6 positions in radiador control.

With rotary switch you need to turn switch only clockwise, in endeless turn. Maybee the rotary switch need a some internal mod to do this...

However I didn't test the idea. Wink

I saw similar thing in some Russian forum, with this label:

+/- fov is probably the other really useful function in fb, but flaps (spitfire type lever) is possible as are multiple throttles in theory Googly or more realistically manual gear crank

they are more useful in other sims such as F4, FSX for radio frequency, nav headings etc but is handy to have, another tool in the box Wink2

agreed, mixture and rads on axes (and ability to read state thru devicelink) would be great.the more options the better as far as i'm concerned.
one can but hope....

Manual gear crank! Of course! I fly the I16 a fair amount, I'm definitely putting a rotary encoder in for that!

I already have flaps mapped to a slider, shhh don't tell anyone Shady

Hello

Paul Hughes, the inventor of gSeat-2, and I spent a couple of days configuring his gSeat-2 to work with the new FCIProject software.

Here is a short video of what gSeat-2 and the FCIProject software can do;

http://www.ge-tec.co.uk/download/video/Movement.avi

In brief, the seat is being driven by the FCIProject software which takes DeviceLink data from IL2 and converts it into movement data to drive servos. The servos then go onto to drive pneumatic rams.

The feel of the seat is further enhanced by using bass shakers to reproduce aircraft vibration.

A Fresnel lens is used to improve the visual aspect of the simulator.

Please see my forum for more videos. I have been told it takes some time to download the videos. Please be patient.

http://ge-tec.dyndns.org:8080/UKCockpitBuildersForum/posts/list/38.page

This shows what can be done with the DeviceLink telemetry from IL2. This is also a good demonstration of what the FCIProject can do. I have written a custom module for Paul's gSeat. Many modules can be linked to the FCIProject Central Module to drive all sorts of things like simulated instruments, motion platforms or virtual cockpit instruments.

The seat is great fun to use. The movement of the platform really does add an extra level of immersion. Although the bank movement doesn't look a lot the senses are fooled and it feels like one is moving a lot more.

More information about gSeat-2 can be found here;

Go, Buchon, go! Clap
Where will the pots/sensors be located? Post pics about them too, when mounted.

have replaced the cougar with a Tarmac Aces stick and throttle
http://www.valiant-studio.eu/tarmac/html/en/hangar.php

originally i was going to build a seat and have it on runners, sliding to the rear for access. after lots of playing around i decided to keep my office chair for comfort, removing the castors and hacking off the left armrest to allow stepping into the pit from left rear by rotating the chair. added a 4" block of foam as a backpad for better positioning- might get round to covering it in something suitable one day Eek

ok a couple more pics Big Grin

you are correct- no spring return mechanism but it does have damping built in so there is a force to push against and holds the stick roughly where you put it.
had this setup for about a week now and am becoming used to it- 10+ years of muscle memory to overcome Hammer
it is quite strange at first positioning stick rather than pulling against a spring, and then having to push the stick back to centre rather than releasing pressure but it's becoming alot more instinctive/immersive now. precision in holding tight turns at G/stall limit is superb and overall i'm very happy with it.

throttle is lovely and smooth and definately feels more period than the wonderfully ergonomic cougar. am 'cheating' slightly with control usage, assigning prop pitch buttons to FOV +/- and using the mixture lever for prop pitch. not tried the internal switch (throttle=100%) for WEP yet but will be researching that in the near future Wink2
am also finally trying helicopters inFSX- it feels good- i just need to learn how to fly the things Blush

if they ever get ffb working it would be perfect but for me the 'grin factor' it induces makes it worth every euro

The inputs are all tied to a Gammaray V2 from BetaInnovations.

http://www.betainnovations.com/

Really a great interface for the money.

This was a picture of the old wireing and controler as I was tearing it out to build my pit V 2.0

And this is a picture of wireing on the back side of the front panel. I ended up using almost a whole spool of thermostat wire and about 9 DB-37 cables to trunk all the circuits back to the main controler.

I'd like to mod my FFB2, this way:

Do you think this mod could be too difficult or dangerous for the hardware?
