I was having trouble with IL2 1946 with the error message nvlddmkm has stopped responding.
These links explain the problem and the registry edit shown fixed the problem for me. http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device...meout.mspx#E1B http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=31913 Turning off the timeout detection: 1. Regedit. 2. Navigate to: HKLM System>Current Control Set>Control>Graphics Drivers 3. Add the following DWORD: TdrLevel and set the value to 0. 4. Reboot. |

Just installed windows Vista 64 SP2.
One of its features was supposed to address this problem. Ermmm... Not on my rig. I had previously installed the "Hotfix" and it was fine for a week. Then at no instigation. I was starting to again get this problem. Thought SP2 was salvation? Apparently not. Unless of course I am doing something wrong? Have done defrag and cleanup. Actually men to say that I don't get this problem with IL2'46. It runs fine. It is with other games in SLI The only real plane I have ever flown in.(Pah! Booked for Florida next year. So this will change.) Is SP2 still a release candidate? I have it and it does seem to have stopped making Il-2 crash to desktop.
However lately in several games the screen will go black for like a second or two randomly, then return to normal...any ideas? ----------------- Farewell to freedom in the Adriatic and to the days of wild abandon. I have the absolute same effect on my PC. With hotfix it was OK but with official SP2 it is crashing again. |

But seeems there is NO WAY! Round the NKVD. Tried the nVidea control panel and can run with "No crashes" on Split render. However. Have artifacts Doesn't take long before the "nvlddmkm has stopped responding".But has recovered. Message. I have no need for "Crash" solution in IL2. (Single GTX285. Runs fine). There have been Soo.. many posts within other Forums about the "Stopped responding" Issue. One has to ask, somewhere? Lets face it. SOW will be here next year? 'twill be Noo.. good if we don't have an OS/CPU/Graphics interface that can run it The only real plane I have ever flown in.(Pah! Booked for Florida next year. So this will change.) JSG if you can, install SP2. Before I installed the beta I would get the black screen crashes all the time. The beta and now the final SP2 seem to have stopped it for me.

Testing for nvlddmkm errors with with Vista & Win 7 RC 32/64bit's with:
New Nvidia driver 185.85 From the readme. "This is a WHQL-Certified driver supporting GeForce 6, 7, 8, 9, 100, and 200-series desktop GPUs and ION. This driver package installs WDDM v1.1 for GeForce 8, 9, and 200-series (DirectX 10) GPUs and WDDM v1.0 for GeForce 6 and 7-series (DirectX 9) GPUs. This driver supports all of the new Windows 7 GPU-accelerated DirectX APIs: DirectX Compute, Direct2D, DirectWrite, and DXVA-HD" +++++++++++++++++++++++++ Stable after first soak tests 8 hours no errors in IL2 1946. |

The 185.85s Are the drivers I have been using over the past couple of weeks. They are the drivers I had installed when I downloaded and installed SP2. One of the problems with the 185.85s is that Rivatuner doesn't recognise them as "Forceware". So you cannot get your fan settings. Have just now rolled back my drivers to the 182.52s and uninstalled SP2 I have again run the BD track in Single and in SLI. No difference in framerates. You do, get artifacts with SLI running IL2'46 in perfect. (Shimmering smoke and stutters) Other than that. Single card/IL2'46 4.09b+Mods=47fps avg. on BD. On a 140 sec. sample starting at 6secs in. I have No problem with IL2! Just the "nvlddmkm has stopped responding" in other games when I use SLI. The only real plane I have ever flown in.(Pah! Booked for Florida next year. Seem to have cured it myself.(With a bit of Motherboard BIOS help.) Underclocking the DRAM frequency to 1066Mhz. Has now got me running well, without a BSOD. It would appear the i7 920 cannot interface properly with DDR3 RAM of higher frequencies. Just as a matter of interest. I had always thought it a "Bit Blazea" off folks to post their System specs. However it can go some way and help when trying to cure Driver/Compatibility/and errors therein. Bit of a change from "The DX Diag" This message has been edited. So is this the verdict, SP2 doesn't fix this problem with IL2? I haven't tried the reg edit yet, gonna try it now.
Btw, that is one helluva PC you got there JSG72. I got my $1200 PC in March and love it. And here I thought I spent a lot. How much did that rig cost? I'm guessing at least 2,000. P.S. Is the place where you work hiring? I need a job badly. |

From what I gather SP2 should fix the nvlddmkm problem.
It would be totally dependant on how you run this or any other game and dependant on your computer componants. Personally I never had the problem running IL2'46 4.09b+Mods.(I use a single nVidea GTX285 to render this games graphics and it has always coped well. My own problems started when I tried to run Crysis with 2xcards in SLI. That is when I would get the "nvlddmkm has stopped responding" message. Downloading the pre SP2 "Hotfix" worked for so long but that eventually failed . I then tried the SP2 download and I still couldn't get it to work. However It was after applying SP2 that I no longer got the "nvlddmkm has stopped responding" message. So I deemed that something else was the problem. And so it led me to realise that with my processor and RAM being incompatable.(AS such). I took the oppeortunity to utelise the motherboards feature of easy "Tweakability" to lower my DRAM frequency. from 1600MHz to 1066MHz. This has cured my problem altogether. Remember I and probably no-one else should now have a problem running IL2'46(In Perfect) using Vista SP2. And especially if you stick to using one graphics card(Recommended "In Perfect") and go for a higher speed CPU(Probably the best you can afford Duel core as IL2 has never took advantage of multicore processing) To "Panzer76" I Specced and bought my PC. to be able to run predicted requirements for SOW. But also to take advantage of more up to date Gaming Titles. It was an opportunity I had to take at the time. and now 6 weeks down the line it is paying off. (It took 4yrs of modding/tweaking/purchasing to get my previous rig to run the best I could acheive for purely IL2). Yes it was expensive. But this Sim is a great leisure interest to me. BTW. I am in Britain, where Rigs cost a darned site more than in U.S. The only real plane I have ever flown in.(Pah! Booked for Florida next year. So this will change.)
