Erratic behaviour of SAITEK X45 Joystick on motherboards with nforce chipset
This occured to me with the DFI LanParty UT SLI Expert motherboard (nforce4) but I read postings mentionning similar problems with nforce2 chipsets. After some use, the X45 Joystick stops responding ! In my case, it still did but, with a 5sec delay (I press a button on the joystick, the command gets executed 5 seconds later - great challenge for long deflection shots I read there is no fix for this yet apart from: ...installing an add on USB card with a VIA USB chipset... I did it, IT WORKS! Took me 30 seconds, cost EUR 10,-- and it was even easier than searching in the forums for 30minutes for the cause of the problem... If anybody ever finds a real fix for this please PM me...but the EUR 10,-- (+30 sec) fix is good value for money... ~S~ 335th GR Dedicated Server Stats Originally posted by Brain32: Well I know that on Spitfires with auto rads, "Engine overheat" message means only "Radiator: Opened" sit back and relax at full throthle forever |

I recently reformatted my hard drives and neglected to keep any of my IL-2 information, specifically the il2-pe2.exe. This required another download/install of BoontyBox and Pe-2. When I went to "unlock my game right now" and entered my transaction number, I was greeting by the following error screens.
It was a very simple matter to correct so I thought I would post the solution in this thread in case the same happened to one of our members. To resolve the matter: You will need to contact the store by logging into your store account from http://shop.ubi.com/default.asp The webpage for the Ubistore can be viewed in three different languages; french, german, or english. You select your preference by clicking on one of the national flags at the bottom of the left hand column. You will need to access the details of your order by going to My account > My orders. Under this heading, you will find information about current and past orders. Under the My Orders section, there will be a customer service link next to the purchased game. From here you can submit your query regarding activation codes. After clicking on the Custoomer Service link, you need to select "None of these possible questions corresponds to my request". This takes you to the last screen, which is a dialog box for you to briefly describe the problem you're having. In my case, the transaction number would not unlock the game. In less than 12 hours, I had a new number which unlocked Pe-2. It was both emailed and posted in the "My Orders" section at the online UbiStore. updated June 28

A Chkdsk Program *Hint* that I picked up from Alienware during a problem with my Hard Drive and had to Reinstall Window's to my computer...
If you use the Chkdsk program coming from *Windows*... There can still be a problem after you run the Chkdsk /r or /f program. This way does not allway's go in all the way to correct the problem *Sometimes*. You have to go in from your computer after you turn it back on and... 2. You can start Chkdsk from the Power Up of your computer... this way the Chkdsk Program runs from your system and should fix your problem with your hard drive if possible... other wise it will tell you that it can't be fixed. When starting Chkdsk this way... 1. By Hitting the *Space Bar* after your computer first Power's Up. 2. Sometimes it is necessary to force the Chkdsk Program from Systems by...*Hitting the F10 Key repeatively when Windows comes up right after Power Up and Keep Banging while the files of Chkdsk are downloading [this depends on the your computer's system]... a Command Question will come up at the End of the Download when it's done... about 2-3 min's worth of F10 Key Banging.* If someone can explain this a bit better... Please Do. It would have saved me a Whole Day of looking into what was the Problem was with my Hard Drive and Going Ahead and Fixxing it. And Thank's Steve for posting the reinstall for Pe-2 addon... it just came in Very Handy. This message has been edited. I too had to buy a pci card because of a x45 with my nf3, sometimes after reboot it wouldn't be recognized - I still keep it for my cougar, as I don't want to risk a bad firmware flash. USB ports on nf chipsets are very flacky. But as an advice, when buying usb pci cards always look for NEC chipsets, they are be best compatibility wise and work as they should with winxp sp2 default drivers only. The via controller (my old kv8-max3 had one inbuilt just as yours) has some issues that on part can be resolved with the drivers on their page but isn't as reliable. |

PROBLEMS WITH ADD-ON INCOMPATIBILITY
Hello guys, There are incompatibility issues with various IL2 add-ons. I have tried to install Battle Over Europe (BOE), Ostfront, The Last Days (TLD), Fall Blau, Combat Over Europe (COE),BANZAI and other free add-ons on a merged 4.05m install. After many experiments, here are my findings and my recommendations: 1) I installed first IL2 FB + AEP + PF with the latest patches, and got a 4.05m merged "clean" install. This one should be backed up, i.e. entirely copied on a separate hard drive, or on CDs. Especially the DGen, Missions folders should be backed up, because these are the ones modified the most by various add-ons. 2) I installed BOE (Battle Over Europe), and OSFRONT v1.1, and then the DGen update by Skycat. I also replaced my DGen.exe by the latest one, i.e. version 4.0.4.5. I then tried to paly campaigns: BOE campaigns seem to work OK, so do OSTFRONT ones. BUT standard DGen campaigns no longer work! I could not launch a German fighter campaign in the South front (Crimea), I could not launch a Soviet fighter campaign, and I could not even launch a Japanese fighter campaign! 3) I then installed TLD, and started a campaign: I got a CTD once, and then the other time the game hang. These two experiences tell me that clearly TLD is not compatible with OSTFRONT, even if one overwrites the files in DGen with the TLD ones. It also tells me that OSTFRONT is not compatible with the standard DGen campaigns (stock game)! I assume here that BOE is compatible with standard DGen, but I am not sure. Also, TLD should be compatible with BOE if applying the latest patch (v1.1). I do not know about TLD's compatibility with standard DGen. As a first conclusion, unless one modifies the files in DGen (?), it is clearly not possible to play dynamic campaigns with all the add-ons that add some of these installed simultaneously. 4) I also installed Fall Blau, Banzai, COE. These ones add skins (no problem), static (scripted) campaigns (no problems), but also change the various background screens (.tga files in the Missions sub folders), and rewards. Some free add-ons also do this, and sometimes also change sounds. For instance the RAF-Full pack (Battle Over Britain), adds radio sounds during flight. It is OK if you fly a British pilot campaign, but not appropriate when you fly over the Pacific as a Japanese fighter pilot... As a second conclusion, even other add-ons, commercial or free ones, may create difficulties and generate problems with gameplay. I then adopted the following solution after finding it in other forums (SimHQ), and recommend it, because it works very well and does not create conflicts: 1) Use a clean merged 4.04m or 4.05m install as a starting point. Back it up. 2) Replace the DGen.exe file by the latest version, i.e. 4.0.4.5. 3) Install the programme JoneSoft Generic Mod Enabler, in your main IL2+AEP+PF folder. Run it once. This will, among other things, add a MODS folder in your main install's root folder. It will not change your progam files. 4) Whenever you install an add-on, create first a sub-folder with the name of the add-on you want to use, such as TLD, Fall Blau, BOE, etc. Then install your add-on not in the main root folder of IL2+AEP+PF, but in the sub-folder you created within the MODS folder. Patch the add-on to the latest version in the same sub-folder. 5) Explore the files added by the add-on in the sub-folder where you installed it. You will find folders such as DGen, Missions, PaintSchemes, etc. Except the files of the DGen folder, which you should leave alone (not all add-ons install some, so this should be an exception), please move the files contained in those add-on folders to the corresponding sub-folders of the main IL2+AEP+PF root folder, such as the files from PaintSchemes, to the main install's PaintSchemes sub-folder. If Windows asks you to replace an existing file, be double careful, and normally click NO, unless you really know what you lose and/or you prefer to replace the standard game file by the add-on's one. You should then have added new files to your game, mainly skins, single mission packs, static campaigns, no problem. Be careful not to add the sound files of the RAF-Full pack if you install it! (leave them in the MOD's folder where you installed this add-on, if applicable). 6) In order to avoid a mess, please have a look at the various sub-folders created within the MODS folder, and make sure that they contain only the files that you did not want to move to the main game install's folders. If you want, you can regroup those sub-folders into a combined one, when/if there is no overlapping or conflict between the various add-ons. BUT ALWAYS respect in any sub-folder of the MODS folder that you create, the basic folder and file structure of the main root install folder of IL2+AEP+PF. I also recommend that instead of having separate sub-folders for BOE and OSTFRONT in the MODS folder, you should have a combined one within the MODS folder, with the DGen update by Skycat, so that you can enjoy this one. 7) THEN PLAY! If you do nothing more, the game will just run the standard DGen campaigns, the new static/scripted campaigns and single missions, the COOP missions, etc. that you added. It will also enable you to apply the new skins of all the add-ons that you install. 8) If you want to play a certain campaign with the special flavour (background screen, music, radio sounds, rewards, etc.) of a given add-on or a dynamic campaign from BOE, OSTFRONT or TLD, then launch JoneSoft Generic Mod Enabler (create a shortcut on your desktop), and decide which Mod you want to use. Then you can launch the game and play. After you finish, disable the Mod by running again the JoneSoft Generic Mod Enabler. Avoid to enable conflicting MODS simultaneously, such as TLD and BOE+OSTFRONT! Baiscally it seems to work OK, it minimizes the incompatibility problems. Of course it adds to the complexity of operating your game, because you use a separate program (JoneSoft Generic Mod Enabler) to enable certain specific add-on files, but if you bought BOE, OSTFRONT and THE LAST DAYS (TLD), you have no other choice in my opinion, other than running completely different installs (which at the end takes more drive space and results in a similar constraint of having to choose which one you want to play before starting the game). Thanks in advance for your comments, corrections, questions. Vincent |

IL2 Sturmovik 1946 and DVD-Drives
(Re-created after Forum's mishap on Jan 21st 2007) What to do if your 1946 disk does not work in your DVD Drive? (Drive not reading the disk, or 'please insert the original disc instead of a backup' message at game start?) First thing to do is to check the firmware version of your DVD drive: Right click 'My Computer', Choose 'Manage', click 'Device Manager', click 'DVD/CD Rom drives', doubleclick the drive, select 'Details' tab and note the value of 'Device Instance Id'. Next, go to the website of the drive's manufacturer, check the latest firmware version available there, and apply it if there's a newer version. Then retest. If Autorun does not work, try and run "Setup.exe" from the DVD. If they both fail, try and run "a.exe" from the DVD. If that did not do the trick, go here: SecuRom Support Still not fixed? Start yourself a new thread in the Community Help Forum and post your make/model of dvd drive into that thread. Known models with issues: HL-DT-ST_DVDRAM_GSA_H10A Firmware: JL04 - Needed a fix from SecuRom Support. Other Solutions/workarounds: By VBF-12_sluggo: 1. Upgrade DVD/ROM firmware: Try to install. 2. Turn off all services and programs through MSCONFIG: Try to install. 3. Uninstall any Burning software (Roxio, Nero, etc: Try to install 4. Uninstall ITunes, Musicmatch (anything that can copy disks): Try to install. Those where my steps with a Sony CRX320E and Plextor 750. Thanks vtrelut1964 for your work on add ons. I am worried about cocking up my system but I didnt buy the add ons not to use them. BTW I found my starting problem was down to anti spyware blocking the Il2fb.exe file. I put it in an ignore list which solved that. Now I have to stop the screen cursor from freezing up. Good job the sim is worth all the hassle.

FIX: Game loads like treacle and mouse cursor on menu will not move, necessitating hard reboot.
For detailed description of problem see below: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/169...691060715#1691060715 System: Operating System: Windows XP Professional x64 Edition (5.2, Build 3790) Service Pack 1 Mobo: MSI K9N Platinum Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 FX-62 Dual Core Processor (2 CPUs), ~2.8GHz Memory: 2048MB RAM Graphics: nVidia GeForce 8800 GTS Sound: RealTex High-Definition onboard sound Monitor: Multisync 20WGX2 It seems that the problem is related to the resolution setting 1400 x 1050 (the max. allowed in IL2 Setup). For some reason that setting caused all the problems. I set it to 1024x768 in Setup, and the game loaded fine. Changed the conf.ini to 1680x1050x32 (the monitor's max. resolution), and it all looks lovely, although I have black sidebars in the menu, but not in game having changed some of the other conf.ini settings as per this thread: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/288...881015025#2881015025 Hope this helps someone, 'cos it made the game unplayable for me for a good while. Possible fix: Game freezes for several seconds, ending in a repetitive sound loop, then lockup stops.
For Windows XP64 + (some?) NVIDIA card users I guess, game version 4.08m Link: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/9561050045 |

Administrator privileges under XP SP2
After I´ve installed my IL-2 Complete Version, an error message popped up saying "Please login with administrator privileges and try again", and I knew that I´m the only user logged in my computer. The problem was a simple SafeDisc issue, and here´s how I´ve fixed it: just went to c:\windows\system32\drivers\ and changed the "hidden" attribute of the secdrv.sys... Done! If you have the same problem, and the info above didn´t work for you, try to check this link: link Kudos to FoolTrottel for the quick help and for providing me this link! |

OK this sounds stupid, but it worked in my case.
If you are having low fps in perfect mode with decent systems give this a try, first load moscow map in quick mission builder, fly around 30 secs, then go play any MP map or any SP map you want,if it works you will your your fps boost. My case: average fps in crimera map was 10-15 b4 applying that fix(!).Now it is between 25-60(vsync on with LCD). 7600GT,p4 2.8d ,2gb ram, running @1280x1024 with 4 xAA,water 2,etc. |

I had a very similar experience to this. I found that playing the SpitVsFW190 track jump started my graphics card. It's a driver issue I'm sure. Try the NGO 2.9792 Driver. |
