FB uninstall/reinstall resolution
from: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=49310655&m=95610798 posted 25-12-03 01:57 I got a lot of good feedback on this topic before when I was in deep trouble, so I thought Iâ´d give something back! Problem: FB would not uninstall with the normal uninstall method, and after manually removing the probgram, it stubbornly refused to reinstall. Resolution: * remove the install folder manually * remove HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles * empty "%temp%" from the Run menu * empty "%systemroot%\temp" from the Run menu * removed all shortcuts It still would not reinstall. Here is the *****y bit. Set folder display otions to show hidden folders and files. In the Programs folder (XP), you will find a normally hidden "InstallShield Installation Information" folder. One of the subolders pertain to FB and is corrupt. To find out which - use Notepad and check the "Setup.ilg" files (do not save!!) for any text referring to FB. When you find the folder, NOTE THE NAME of the folder (in my case {8DF712DA-D325-4FD0-8DE8-E2D78FC3CDC3}, and delete the folder (or just move it somewhere else). Then run Regedit and search it for the first part of the folder name - for example 8DF712DA. You will find two keys in the registered programs part of the registry that match this - makes sense. Delete these keys. Set folder dsiplay options back to normal. Now the re-install worked fine and I could make a fresh install of the 1.21 patch! Phew - that was a sweat! Fly carefully /Jilli |

How to find the AGP aperture setting in the bios?
Unlocking hidden BIOS options from: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=49310655&m=719107381&r=596109581#596109581 Scragbat wrote: Maple_Tiger, I may have a glimmer of hope for you... I have a Gigabyte GA-7N400 pro2 board. Obviously a different model but the same manufacturer. There is absolutely no mention of Aperture size for AGP in my MB Manual and going through the BIOS screens extensively there is no visible setting for it. However, I have found the setting thanks to Google groups. I was looking into overclocking my system and found a mention of how to unlock hidden BIOS features. This included revealing a setting to change your AGP aperture size! Now this may work for you and it may not. It could be exclusive to my board but it is definately worth a try. On the main BIOS screen press CTRL+F1. On my system the screen flickers briefly. The reason being it has unlocked some hidden BIOS features. In the Advanced BIOS Features screen I now have AGP Aperture size with a default setting of 64MB. There is no mention of this in my manual but there it is on my BIOS screen!!!!! I also have a host of features unlocked in Advanced Chipset Features that were not there before. This is really worth a shot as it will either work or it won't, but I am hoping it will. Good Luck! How to make Win 98 run more than 512 ram. I see this from time to time. So I'll add it here. If you disagree Steve_v Correct it or delete it.
This is what I found out a long time ago and I no longer mess with win 98 I have XP pro now. So my memory of it is weak to say the least. You are running into a 'known issue' with WIN98. You need to limit the amount of RAM that Win98 'sees'. To do this you will need to edit your SYSTEMINI file in the Windows folder: 1: open the SYSTEM.INI in NOTEPAD. 2: In the [386Enh] section, add the line: MaxPhysPage=1FFFF 3: In the [vcache] section, make sure that you have the lines: MinFileCache=16384 MaxFileCache=65536 4. Save the SYSTEM.INI file and re-boot. This will allow you to run Win98 with more that 512 meg of memory. For me this was the answer short I had to set my MaxPhysPage=1FFFF to MaxPhysPage=40000 as microsoft recomended for over one gig of ram. Install "Error: 1311 Source file not found X:\Data1.cab. Verify that the file exists and that you can access it'
The 'X:\' above is your CD-ROM/CD-R/W drive letter If you keep getting this error and your CD-ROM/CD-R/W works fine, here is the fix: In windows, click Start | Run and type in: regedit Navigate to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinLogon\AllocateCDRoms If the value for AllocateCDRoms is set to 1, change it to 0 and then retry the installation. This fix however only works AFTER you REBOOT the machine. This fix worked for me even if I installed the game off a Yamaha CD-R/W. It originally gave me the same error when read off my DVD-ROM as well as if I copied the CD contents to my HD in a folder named 'DISK1' which was designated as a 'shared' folder. Good Luck |

Found this one recently when forced back to my Kyro2 card [Hercules 4500 / 32mb].
Using the newest [time of writing] 2.1: If il2setup.exe is set to use "None" as the texture compression method for OpenGL rendering, but the PVR drivers display control panel is set to "force texture compression" in its OpenGL settings, extremely bad things result. This setting seemed fine to use for single player, but for some reason, using it in multiplayer would result in a timeout/latency autokick from a server whenever new textures needed to be loaded to the card. Such as a damage LOD texture loading, or an explosion, or guns firing. Not fun to be autokicked as soon as you're about to get a kill. Solution is to set 'force texture compression' off in the PVR OpenGL display settings, then set 'S3TC' as the compression method and turn on 'Texture Compress ARB Extension' in il2setup. Probably very few people still using one of these cards for Il2 these days, but I just thought I'd put it out there :> |

Regarding Installation of FB1.0 + the Aces Expansion Pack ; and the error "IL2 Forgotten Battes not installed":
Make sure when you load FB1.0 *no need to add the patches by the way!*, that you utilize its AUTORUN function. This will set the appropriate "language" key in your FB1.0 installation. If you have AUTORUN capabilities turned off (either by choice or error) then just browse your cdrom drive in using your windows explorer and click on the cdrom drive. That should start the AUTORUN procedure. Barring that, you may manually edit your registry to include the correct language by following this thread: http://www.simhq.com/simhq3/sims/boards/bbs/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=98;t=007823#000000 You run regedit at your own risk. Try the process of using autorun off your fb 1.0 disk for starters to let it set the language appropriately to start with. Once you've confirmed the language key is present and set appropriatly, your AEP install will work properly. Your AEP should autorun appropriately based upon your language key being set properly now. Barring that, setup.exe will work now without the error as long as the key is properly set. NOTE: The instructions linked above are for the US_ENGLISH version of FB1.0 and AEP. You will have to get with a co-located owner of FB1.0 and AEP to understand the registry entries for your language install!! [This message was edited by MurdockSC on Fri March 12 2004 at 08:37 AM.] |

Adjusting joystick response if you have two joysticks and Windows XP
----------------------------------------------- I have a CH Pro Throttle USB and a Saitek Force 3D. Windows XP detects the throttle as my primary joystick, and I havent found any way to change that. If you are in a similar situation and you want to change the joystick response from the hardware/input setup on the game, you wont be able to do that because what you will see there is the first joystick that has been detected by WXP; but I have found a way to do that: Disconnect your throttle, launch the game and enter the configuration screen. Adjust the response parameters, and exit. Then, edit the conf.ini file at the root directory of the game and look for the section "[rts_joystick]". You will see something like this: [rts_joystick] X=0 1 4 9 16 25 36 49 64 81 100 0 .... 1X=11 1 7 11 20 30 41 55 65 75 90 10 1Y=11 1 7 11 20 30 41 55 65 75 90 10 1Z=0 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 0 1X1=0 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 0 1Y1=0 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 0 1Z1=0 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 0 .... the lines with "1X=", "1Y=" and "1Z=" contains the parameters you have just configured for the first joystick. If you change the "1X=","1Y=" and "1Z=" for "1X1=", "1Y1=" and "1Z1=" and viceversa, you will switch the input response configuration between the joysticks. Your ini will be as this: [rts_joystick] X=0 1 4 9 16 25 36 49 64 81 100 0 .... 1X1=11 1 7 11 20 30 41 55 65 75 90 10 1Y1=11 1 7 11 20 30 41 55 65 75 90 10 1Z1=0 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 0 1X=0 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 0 1Y=0 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 0 1Z=0 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 100 0 .... Now, start the game your real joystick will work as you want. |

For Those With Intel Onboard Graphics - Part One
============================================= Also - What to do in above systems when the screen is upside down... and a few other hints for performance. I run an onboard 845 G based graphics chipset in a 1.8 P4 and FB works ok with most in game settings High / Excellent. I know how to fix the flip problem - it happened to me with the original IL2 demo. Go into your Intel extreme graphics config, (choose 'Graphics properties' from the Intel Extreme Graphics options menu on the system tray Icon) click the rotation tab and uncheck 'Enable Rotation'. The onboard graphics Display memory is system RAM Dependent and if only configured for 32 MB may hinder performance - I managed to get mine to 64MB (which means it exceeds minimum spec for FB) - On the same configuration pane as described above, click the Open GL tab and select 'High' from the pull down menu beside 'Driver Memory Footprint'. However, I read somewhere that the allocated memory depends on how much RAM you have installed - I have 512MB. In any case you need at least 256 Preferably 512+ MB for FB. It might also be a good idea to get the latest graphics drivers from the Intel site http://www.intel.com/products/desktop/chipsets/graphics/index.htm and also Direct X 9.0c http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx Will Post my FB/AEP Setup Settings at some other time (I am on holiday and on a different PC so I can't check Hope this Helps This message has been edited. After endlessly tweaking my audigy card I still got a severe echo when using teamspeak, I could hear fine but others just heard engine blast and an echo that literally kept me from using it. I tried every combo of every setting on the sound tab, every thing I could tweak in the config.ini file....
When I upgraded to Aces....the sound tab was set at "default" incredible......problem solved, I never tried simply default settings. Could be the sound fix if you're having some, who knows. Made one huge diff for me. regards- When you get to Hell, tell 'em HawgDog sent you! |

quote: Well all this advice is good and you guys have helped immensely. Thankyou. Just my little observation on this rts.dll file. Two things I`ve discovered: 1. I always had to get this file off the CD (by opening it and pasting it int the FB folder) or FB wouldn`t work. So you don`t need to D\L, just geab it of the other CD. 2. This problem STOPPED completely when I did a complete reformat and put windows XP on fresh. The trick was when I did a fresh NTFS install. Previously I`d install WindowXP in Fat32 (after installing Windows `98, then Convert to NTFS and become the Administrater, but then that`s where the DLL problem would occur when trying to start FB. Since the fresh NTFS Windows (without `98), NO problems. FB starts straight away! SeaFireLIV... |

Dealing with the TeamSpeak "Echo" problem:
Doubleclick the speaker ("Volume") icon in your system tray: this brings up your "Play Control": Select "Mute" for "Microphone" and then select "Options" > "Properties" > "Recording" and make sure microphone is selected in the device list, then hit "OK". This brings up your "Recording Control" dialog and you should make sure "Microphone" is selected: |

Problems with Internet comms not coming through
From this thread. Often you join up with others on your favorite meeting spot ready to fly and you find out someone is not being received on comms. Here is a checklist of things to look into if your voice is not coming through:
It is possible to check your own microphone while offline to see whether it is functioning properly through soundcard and Windows settings. Open the program Sound Recorder and use it to test: Start > Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Sound Recorder. Most 3rd party game voice comms also have a recording or testing feature that you can use to perform a mic test. Special note on the Windows volume control panel This is related to what Jetbuff posted earlier in the thread. As he posted, and as PFCoastie wrote in the reference thread: A lot of people don't realise is that in Windows Volume Control panel, there are two different sound control panels -- one for playback control and the other for recording control. Open your Play controls by double-clicking the speaker icon in the taskbar, and make sure your mic volume is MUTED. Then go to Options > Properties and click the recording control radio button and make sure that "microphone" is checked in the box below the slider, then click OK. This is where you will adjust your mic volume and you must make sure the "select" box is checked under the mic slider. However, there is a further special note that you're going to love. A while back, when I fooled with the settings as mentioned by Jetbuff and PFCoastie, I found that I got very different results. I found the following from RogerWilco's site: quote: Here is another important, related note under the Recording section: quote: There's one more comment on that page that might help the frustrated feel a bit better: "Some people find controls on their Volume Control panels (particularly under Advanced buttons) which seem whimsical, almost like a sinister Easter Egg." There are a couple of other possibilities that are not on the checklist. One is that another program that uses the recording and playback of the sound system is causing a conflict. For example, in the reference thread, SComo4076 reported that he installed a more recent version of Microsoft Messenger and that the problem disappeared. He also installed a new soundcard, which leads to another possibility. It is possible that something has happened and the soundcard or an essential system device (look in Device Manager) is not correctly installed. Annoying buzzing sound If you or those on the other end are hearing a buzzing sound, it is possible that your microphone cord is lying near a power cable. The power is at 50Hz or 60Hz, and if the signal is coupled to the mic cord it can produce an annoying 100Hz (or 120Hz) audible signal. Move the mic cord away from the power cables; especially avoid having them lie lengthwise next to each other.
