If you use NvTempLogger program, you can set it to keep a record of GPU temps, then go back and review the record. Far more accurate than trying to escape to the desktop and check the temp with the Nvidia control panel.

Yikes. These are the exact symptoms I was having with a 7900GT a few months ago. I had to RMA mine. Frown

the Nvtemplogger marked 94 C when the small symptoms apperaered, i've changed the resolution to; antialising 4x 9tab and anisotropic 2x, now i have 88C as the hotter peak.

94C????!!!!!! Holy cow!!!!!! Eek
You definitely have a heating issue. Check the heatsink and fan for dust, make sure the fan has access to cool air. If the fan is drawing air from inside the case, then it may be drawing hot air and simply recycling that hot air. I made a duct from one of those cheap PCI slot fans so that my card could only draw air from outside the case.

Seems to me there is a special dll available for those running the 8800 series cards. Perhaps that was the solution.Does anyone know of this .dll?

FIXED
Here is the fix...

I re-loaded my system and games the other day and had "black water" in il2FB with my 8800ULTRA.Here is fix some of the NV lines under "render Opl in the config flie.

Just got a GeForce 8600GTS and I've got the texture corruption problem over large cities...especially ones with custom textures like Kiev. I've seen people with that one before...is there a quick fix or should I go through the motions? Everything else is peachy...no black water or lines or anything.

Black water fix that worked for me (finally):

Just switched from a semi-dead 9800pro to 7600 gs oc.

Cleaned out the drivers as required and tried the sept 2007 nvidia (163.67 for xp) drivers.

Everything was fine except for the black water. Tried the beta release Sept 2007. They work great too but still have black water.

THEN this post

http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/616...361011465#7361011465

reminded me about the IL2setup. I had it set up custom for the 9800 pro.

I changed THAT to nvidia 6800 (and up). BLUE WATER finally.

So, beta drivers sept 2007 (163.67 for xp 32bit) and video card nvidia 6800 and up worked for my BFG 7600gs oc.

I had a question about using the 8800 GTS with IL-2 1946. I'm using an ASUS crosshair MB, BFG 8800 GTS 640, 2 GB GSKill RAM, Audigy 2 zx, AMD 5600+ x2. My video drivers are the NGO162.18 set at AF 8X, AA 8xS, AA transparency supersampling, Texture filtering High quality. My conifg is:

[Render_OpenGL]
TexQual=3
TexMipFilter=2
TexCompress=0
TexFlags.UseDither=1
TexFlags.UseAlpha=0
TexFlags.UseIndex=0
TexFlags.PolygonStipple=1
TexFlags.UseClampedSprites=0
TexFlags.DrawLandByTriangles=1
TexFlags.UseVertexArrays=1
TexFlags.DisableAPIExtensions=0
TexFlags.ARBMultitextureExt=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineExt=1
TexFlags.SecondaryColorExt=1
TexFlags.VertexArrayExt=1
TexFlags.ClipHintExt=0
TexFlags.UsePaletteExt=0
TexFlags.TexAnisotropicExt=1
TexFlags.TexCompressARBExt=1

TexFlags.TexEnvCombine4NV=1
TexFlags.TexEnvCombineDot3=1
TexFlags.DepthClampNV=1
TexFlags.SeparateSpecular=1
TexFlags.TextureShaderNV=1

HardwareShaders=1

Shadows=2
Specular=2
SpecularLight=2
DiffuseLight=2
DynamicalLights=1
MeshDetail=2
VisibilityDistance=3

Sky=2
Forest=2
LandShading=3
LandDetails=2

LandGeom=2
TexLarge=1
TexLandQual=3
TexLandLarge=1

VideoSetupId=2
Water=4
Effects=0
ForceShaders1x=0

PolygonOffsetFactor=-0.15
PolygonOffsetUnits=-3.0

Finally, I'm using the IL2_core.dll dated April and running in perfect mode at 1280 x 960.

Everything runs great, great FPS, etc. My only problem is that terrain looks jagged from a distance. For instance, rivers will have jagged edges and coastlines around island look jagged - only from a distance. It looks alot like having AA or AF turned off on low resolution back in earlier times like RB3D.

I don't remember it being so noticable when I was running my 7900 GT. Is this typical? Thanks for advice!

Has anyone tried the 163.71 forceware drivers yet? Just curious if I should bother to download or stick with what I have.

IIRC, coastlines can't simply be AA'ed in this game due to the way crashing waves where made.

I have the 163.71's loaded and running. I use a 7950 GX2 and it runs well with these drivers.
I noticed that the problems mostley in the topic has to do with the 7800's. I do not know how it runs with them.

I am building a new machine now and have a 8800 GTX. It is not up and runnig yet so I have no idea how it will run with IL2 1946.

To set the settings for '46, the profile to edit in the Nvidia Control Panel is the "IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles + Ace Expansion Pack" Isn't it?

That would be it, you just need to make sure that the application associated to the profile is il2fb.exe. This can be readily be checked by using the 'classic style' control panel, or with other tools like nHancer or RivaTuner.

Cheers,
S.

I just reformated my hard drive and did a fresh install of XP. I have a 7950 GT and a 185 opteron processor. It's amazing how fast it runs now.
I loaded driver 163.75 and all seems ok but when I play a dvd I can hear sound but the video image is all scrambled. I reloaded Nvidia Purvideo decoder. Everything loaded, is the same as before exept the NVIDIA driver. I thought I would install an older version video driver.
Can I just uninstall the driver from add and remove programs or is there more to it then that?

Thanks

You can uninstall via Windows, but you really need to run DriverCleaner Pro, preferably in Safe Mode, in order to completely remove the video drivers. Failure to do this will likely result in a mix of old and new driver parts and the result is usually a disaster.

It has been my experience that cards in the 8xxx series run best with 1xx.xx drivers, older cards seem better with the 9x.xx series drivers with 94.24 being very good on my 7950GT. The problem with these drivers is the dreaded black ring on the water when using water 3 or 4. In order to be able to use those settings, I use the NGO version of the 97.92 driver (they call it 297.92 since it is their second version of this driver). No black ring and almost as fast as the 94.24 driver.

Hallo everybody,
I also use the NGO version of the 97.92 driver (they call it 297.92 since it is their second version of this driver) on my Opteron 185@2700MHz with my two 8800GTX (SLI)
Testesd the il2core.dll originals and April version but with these drivers I notice no difference in quality or speed. (I have most NV optimisations out in my conf.ini and 4AA, 16AF, all optimisations out with nhancer).
I get decent framerates at 50-60fps online (3072x768 resolution, three monitors) and 41fps at BlackDeath

Does anybody know whether the newer NVIDIA 1xx.xx give better frame rates? (just in case...)
