I'm only seeing problems when using OpenGL. What about the rest of you? Problems in DirectX too or just OpenGL?

I'm pretty sure the problem doesnt occur in DirectX rendering mode, only OpenGL.

But once again, one of the points of having such high end quality cards is to be able to get the fullest out of SM3 and the game, spoiling your eyes with eye candy.

Would be a shame to have to turn down these graphic options for this sort of bug.

Indeed, the latest drivers work fine until 4.01. Maybe the fix will/should come from nVIDIA, but given how many gamers use IL-2 versus other games such as BF2, I am hoping Maddox resolves the issue in the next/last patch as NVIDIA is probably too busy with other games.

If not, Hunter82 could you please take a moment to explain what the temporary fix actually does to the presentation of the game? Sounds like an easy fix, but what are the graphical "cost" to the gamer?

Regards,

After reading through this thread I`m so glad I got an ATI All-In-Wonder X800XT as my new 3D card for the next couple of years.

Only solid drivers releases and top performance since the last 5 versions. Way to go ATI bow

Thanks for the pics Banabob. I have heard about this issue for a long while now and had never seen any pics of it. You Nvidia m8's hang in there. The m8's that uses ATI went through 3 months of graphic glitches back from Dec. 04 to Feb. 05. Ours was so bad that at times, we couldn't see well enough to fly. Looks like you m8's can at least fly, even if it is with the sides miising on your ac. I know it looks bad, but surely Nvidia knows about the problem and are working on it. It might be good for the lot of you guys to bombard Nvidia with screen shots like this and complaints as well, just in case thay have put it on the back burner. I'm feelin' for you guys. Geesh!

Thanks Quazi, I just posted my problem at Nvidia forums along with many others who are having the same exact problem and none have gotten answers yet so that is a bit disconcerting. I also emailed dperez(at)nvidia.com with the problem, we'll see if it is even answered. Indifferent

Just wait till you try to find 64 bit compliant drivers for 6800 Ultra under Win XP64 without texture issues.

From the day that the 4.01 patch was released, Oleg commented that 'this is nvidia driver problem not the patch/game engine', its been known by 1C for that long, but they appear not to be pursuing it with nvidia, in fact from the recent posts on simhq.com its absolutely new news to them, but now at least they're aware of it. Where's Ubisoft in all this are they even awake? Driver after driver has been released since the patch and without any hint of a fix. If you want shader 3 stuff in IL" and dynamic shadows in BF2 then your b*ggered!

Exactly! I wonder how many folks are getting screwed by this, just getting sick of trying new drivers in anticipation that this might be the one that fixes it.

Again, I'm overwhelmingly happy I've stuck with NVDIA all my life. ATI has been selling their top-end cards that dont even support SM3 shader modeling. Most high quality games are beginning to take full use and impliment SM3 into their engines, and it would suck to have a 300 buck ATI card that can't even render it.

I Think This graphical glitch problem can be easily solved with patches from Oleg, or Drivers from NVDIA. They just need to fully underestand that there is a whole bunch out there with this problem. Look at BF2, There was a problem in displaying those shadows and such, but they released new drivers JUST to fix that problem in that game.

They released a new driver with the DEMO of the game just to fix their problem. That's the clout EA have with nVidia!

Oleg's attitude appears to be firmly in the 'nvidia's responsible for fixing this glitch' camp - but it's odd it only happened after the last patch, it's also a pretty weird glitch because occasionally the missing textures will flash back in shot for a moment. Let's hope it is a simple fix and hope even more that nVidia are now actually aware of it and that it appears as a solved problem in the upcoming 8x,xx series drivers.

You quoted me wrong there ZappaTime, that`s actually Kuoster´s quote (no pun intended Wink)

This is the bug of NVIDIA. They know it.
However, becasue the next version release time of their direver is unknown we probably will go around and fix it by our methods (not the best way I would say)

Ooops, sorry for the mix up in quotes fellas, there's a job for me in the tabloid press maybe!? Hammer

The point I was making is the same though. I think if nVidia do know, as Oleg says, then they're not exactly breaking a leg to fix our problem - it's a while since 4.01 came out; an Oleg work-around, as he intimated, may not be the best way - it may cause problems elsewhere!

Basically you are loosing the funtionality of pixel shaders 2.0 and 3.0 using the force 1.0 temp fix. Overall you will be able to use Perfect but water quality and some shadows will be degraded...on a plus note performance will increase usually 40% roughly.

The issue is with nvidia drivers 70 series and up, Nvidia are aware of the issue when and if it is fixed is up to them. Oleg will be doing a temp fix in the coming patch(s) if needed.
