I always thought that Saitek gave you the best bang for the buck. CH makes great products though if you don't mind spending a bit more. I always thought the Cougars were overrated.
All I'm going to say is that my CH stick and pedals are now seven years old, and still working faultlessly. Divide £250 by 10,000 (approx hours of use) and that I believe is "bang for the buck"
My CH fighterstick is the best stick I have ever had.Very precise and it just...works! I also have CH pedals, and they work exactly the same as they did when they were new, some years ago. As for saitek,I stopped that after the X45,a nice stick let down by poor build quality.I do like the Saitek throttle quad though, the build quality is not up to a CH product, and its a bit flimsy, but for the price its pretty good.
From my experience the CH is head and shoulders above Saitek. All three Saiteks I've bought/used lost center accuracy after a while.
I'll paraphrase BC's comments based on my experience. You get a lot of stick for the money when you purchase Saitek. The problem is after 6 months to a year it's not the same stick. It gets sloppy.
Compare that to CH and I've not had a single issue with it. Every button works as it did new. The mouse look button on the throttle is flawless after 4 years.
I see the new 'bright and shiney' on the horizon and think: Will it behave as well as my CH does a year from now?
Tuphlandng, IF this is a serious hobby and you see yourself enjoying it longer than a passing fancy, get CH. The extra cash you shell out now will pay off in the long run. (And quite frankly if you shop around the prices aren't that far apart. Maybe $50.00 for a whole HOTAS set up.....and I'm being generous. I doubt it's that much of a price disparity for a comparable HOTAS.)
Ask HaVoK about Saitek. I think he has an interesting YouTube telling us all what he thinks of Saitek.
Bump, bump and bump for the CH products. Built to last and they do. I have the Stick, throttle and pedals and they have been used daily for many many years.
Both brands have soft/floppy springs...I used a Saitek Cyborg Platinum VERY briefly ...it was unbelievably limp...I dont know how anyone can fly a stick with a soft spring (and NO the Cougar HOTAS doesnt have a hard/strong spring its quite floppy about the center and just gets tight but in a vague/hard rubbery way near the edge of the gate-THATS why its tiring to fly with not the spring tension-why do you think theres an EVENSTRAIN Mod available for it -Mod for a £200/$300 stick- what a joke!?) I also got a used set of CH pedals and they had a distinct 'notch' in them-NOT in the centre-which was very disappointing -a roughness at a certain point in the travel. They felt way too soft also ,and people say their sticks are limp also. Amazingly I have used the budget Logitech Extreme 3d Pro for all of my IL2 'career'(5+ years now?)except for a week at the very begining.Of course Ive gotten through a few ...I love em sooooo much I must have bought six or seven ....maybe two or three have dropped off in performance compared with a new one ,but hey at what they thats not an issue for me (especially when compared with any other 'high spec' hardware...)
The CH stuff is beginning to lag a bit in the tech dept, i.e. no rotaries. That said, I have a set of CH pedals and the Pro throttle and I like them a lot. I've been using a Saitek Cyborg Evo for the last four years or so and it has worked well. That said, I think I will eventually get a CH Fighterstick to complete the trio.
my stick is very, very high quality... Saitek ST2090 Pro...
Actually i like the feel of it a lot. its comfortable (for leftys too) and it was only $10 at wally world. I dont see why people think they are so bad, (except the build quality).

I think this X-65 will be the best one they have made to date.

CH is worth the extra money. You'll have a pile of dead Saiteks by the time a single CH stick breaks down. CH stuff is indestructable and extremely reliable.
I wouldn't buy another brand...not that I'd need too as I don't see any of my CH stuff needing to be replaced for some time to come.
