You mentioned waiting for USB 3.0. I did a little research and one question is WTF happened??? Asus puts out a board, pulls it back and the format seems to be lanquishing? Are they waitin for Win7 to utilize it before they put it out?

No, you know the little squre openings all over your pc that you shove devices into (get your mind out of the gutter) they run on the USB (Universal Serial Bus) 2.0 standard. The NEW USB 3.0 bus will have transfer speeds so far above that as to make you head spin! Back up you entire harddrive in minutes not hours!!!!! Da Worfster |

Oh yeah, sorry, my brains rotten from school.
Being British is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub for a Belgian beer, then grabbing an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way home, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV. |

It wasn't an issue with USB 3.0, it was the Marvel SATA 6gbs chip that had issues. Asus was being very early with USB 3.0, it's not really expected to be seen in a mobo till mid 2010 so I wouldn't wait for it if you want to build now. If waiting is no big deal then wait. The market is always slow with this sort of thing so it will be mid to late 2010 before there are any devices that use USB 3.0.

I think Worf101 is a bit too optimistic.
USB 3.0 is supposed to be 10x faster than 2.0 (4.8 GBit/s instead of 480 MBit/s). These are theoretical speeds however. USB never was a very efficient connection. If you reach 27 MByte/s you have about reached the limit for USB 2.0 - I have never seen a USB connection reach 60 MB/s. They will have to optimize the communication protocol considerably if they ever want to come close to 4.8 Gb/s. I personally don't see them pull that off in the next 5 years. If they manage to get into conflicts like the OpenGL 3 developers it is very well possible there never will be a USB 3.0. 2010 for a working USB 3.0 at 4.8 Gb/s is very optimistic I believe. |

Interesting points Max. Seems Intel is forging ahead albiet slowly....
http://news.cnet.com/8301-1392...wsEditorsPicksArea.0 Gosh I'd so conflicted. Hand down my old rig to Junior and build before Christmas or.. buy him a laptop and wait for 3.0? I just don't want to be caught in a crack again like I was from AGP to PCIE! Hmmm dilemma's, dilemmas. Da Worfster |

Interesting link to intel.
It may take a long time before prototypes come to the market. I don't know how old "Junior" is, but consider this ASRock Ion 330 nettop when looking around for a pc to buy. The little gadget even runs 1946. Not great frame rates but good enough to play on 1280x1024 perfect settings It's an amazing little machine with a great BIOS to play with overclocking and all kind of settings. I now have one for a month or so. It's an ideal living room computer. VERY quiet (<<26 dBa), uses very little power (less than 40 Watt stressed), so great for a system you want running 24/7. I don't want to miss it anymore. Best buy of the last 5 years for me. |
