This is a cruel joke. Or Im a lousy pilot. Or both.
I am now playing the original dynamic Sturmovick campaign (Leningrad front). This is my 1st time with teh sim. I had to resintall after crashing issues that seemed to be related to the 3rd partu dynamic campaign generator. But I digress... Anyway, all I can say is wtf pwned by teh Germans in the early campaign. The same thing keeps happening. My flight gets bounced by nimble German fighters and we slug around in our IL-2s with no escorts. Slowly each of us dies. Most missions I have either died or never reached teh target5, To make matters worse, I am supposed to "fly in formation" the whole time. God it sucked to be a Russian in 1941. But what tsh best way to play this? Or, is this campaign simply "the way it was" and you really are cannon fodder the whole time? |

Well you called it it sucketh muchly Ruski front early war.
1. First, turn off that friggen radio. No sense here him telling you to get back in formation all day. 2. Allow for instant mission success. It's a cheat but hey, you wanna finish the campaign or what. 3. If bombing unescorted, leave formation, attack nearest enemy ground target then return home. Or fly out as far as necessary to get "mission accomplished" then fly home. Hope this helps. Da Worfster |

What Worf said...
Plus another tip: It's personal, but I always liked to replay a mission whenever I could not complete it (ie. got shotdown / had no 'Apply' button). Keep trying that same mission, and each time try and find a different solution to the problems occuring. (Like maybe leaving your flight, ignoring the radio and seek a different route to target, or even just to survive). Me thinks I learned from that, on how to quickly react to changing circumstances. (Not that I've got it mastered, I'm no ace, far from it... but always try my best to complete mission goals, and get home (I remember when I just got FB, I started the Finnish figther campaign, and there was one mission in it in which our flight was bounced by an enemy flight with an Ace in it... I got shotdown time after time. Until I found a way to evade their initial attack, turn 'round, get into position and on the tail of that Ace... very cool to finaly complete that one, and find out you got an ace... Took a while and a lot of tries though... Like said, it's personal, and switching off 'No instant success' is also a good way, as long as you have fun playing it... it's all fine... Multicontrollered pil2ots in need of tuning sensitivity settings: IL2-Sticks or IL2 Joy Control (By Oleg_BS). To print your Mission Briefing: MissPrint |

I derive a great deal of enjoyment coming up with a mission strategy, especially when it seems the author has built in seemingly insurmountable problems that have me doing some prop ploughing in a flaming ball.
Don't feel confined to waypoints and direct paths between them. If such takes you over enemy AAA, go around, don't fly over it! Study the brief map and plot your own waypoints. When you know you're going to encounter a superior force, don't go there unless you want to try an approach that gives you an advantage (Altitude?) or you're out just to get a few licks in before hitting refly. Good luck! Strider1 Macabre doesn't begin to describe ME!!!--Som Assembly Required... http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n206/strider_07/GotHimOnTheRunMtnsA.jpg |
