I have an issue with IL2 1946 not loading. Some system specs: intel quad core, nividia 9800 video card and realtek on-board sound. It takes about 60 seconds to start, the start up screen is shown, loads to 5% and then crashes. Also it changes from the win 7 spinning icon to a CD style icon after 20 seconds. I have tried both Open GL and DirectX setting on the video screen (graphic resolution set to maximum), reinstalling and some of the other suggestions on this forum. Also, I though it could be a window resize issue, as win 7 seems to resize the window automatically for the aspect ratio of the game. So I followed the instructions to set it to wide screen, but the same thing happened.

It may still be the resoltion resize issue. Looks like Windows is running at 1650x1050, wheras your conf.ini still says 1024x768 and saveaspect=1. I suspect you have il2 installed in the program files folder where changes to .ini files is locked down. Move the game folder to a location outside of program folders (I.E. C:\Games\Ubisoft\etc.) and try editing the conf.ini again to read:

width=1680
height=1050
ColourBits=32
DepthBits=24
StencilBits=8
ChangeScreenRes=1
FullScreen=1
DrawIfNotFocused=0

Thank you for your help, but it did not work. However, I found the issue, it was incompatibility with the latest version 4.09m (I tried this a couple of times when installed on the c drive or another partition). It works with version 4.07m that came with the game, however, it seems to have issues in that I have to minimise the program and re maximise to get the mouse to work. When it starts the task bar does not immediately disappear I have to do some clicking on the screen to remove it. Also the time lag issue to open the program is still there.

Once all this overcome the game is still playable.

Ah, there are some rigs that have an issue with the new mg_snd.dll files (or something like that, there are two dll files with snd in the name) that came with 4.08 or 4.09. Just copy those two .dll's from the stock 4.07 and after patching up, copy those 4.07 versions of the dlls back and overwrite the new ones.

As for the mouse things, that happens to me occasionally too, it's some other program stealing focus for a second, and alt+tab or two fixes it most times.

Are they the only 2 dll files that I need to copy, because I am still having the same issue? Would it matter if I copied all the dll files?

Hmm, odd, so in 4.07 it works (other than the known mouse issue), but as soon as you install 4.08m it crashes at 5%? Or did you install 4.08m at all? You need 4.08 before you install 4.09. Also some mod issue will cause a crash at 5%, are you installing any mods before the crashes?

Used to run IL-2 1946 on a win xp system machine. Due to problems with that machine - where I lost all my programs I subsequently reinstalled it and also copied the whole game onto a portable hard drive just in case it happened again.

Ive now upgraded to a win 7 - 64bit machine and found that the sim would not install from the dvd disk.

I connected the portable hard drive and clicked on the games exe. file and the game started and now plays as well as ever. The version I have is 4.08m.

If iot wont install from the disk, browse the disk and run A.exe as Administrator, do Not use compatibilety mode to install IL2 1946.
