Hi everyone,

I'm very new to this simulator, before now ive mainly concentrated on civilian sims, however i came across this game recently, purchased it, but of course since im running windows vista im having terrible problems in getting the thing to run!! ive done endless amounts of searching tryin to find solutions to this problem, the latest message i have (of which there seems to be no clear solution to just yet) is an error message telling me

"The procedure entry point MakeCriticalSectionGlobal could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll."

I know other people have had this problem, but like i said ive been unable to find a solution so far! ive tried reinstalling the KERNEL32.dll, but thats had no effect!

My system specs are as follows,

Windows vista home premium (x 64) sp1
pentium dual-core T4200 2.0ghz
4 GB ram
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 512MB

I really hope someone can help me! since ive discovered this sim, i've been itching to get it up n running! (sry if i've left any critical information out)

ok, problem solved!

initially when i installed it first the only way i could get around the spinning disk problem was to run it in directx mode, but that was giving me requests for various modules which i installed finally giving me this problem, then i managed to fix the spinning disk issue nd get it to give me that msg in openGL. so i tried jst deleting the previous dll that had been asked for in directx setup....nd then it loaded no problem! sry for the post!

Glad to hear you have it sorted. I saw your post last night, but since others have more experience with running under Vista (and Windows 7) than me, I thought I'd leave it for someone else to help, though you've now hopefully fixed it yourself.

Welcome to IL-2, by the way, and if you have further problems either with installation/setup or with the game, feel free to ask.

If you've only flown civvy sims, you may find some of the warbirds a bit of a handful to start with on full difficulty settings, mainly due to engine torque effects: expect to have to use a lot of rudder on takeoff for instance.

Be sure to check out Bearcat's Nugget's Guide if you haven't already, and you will also no doubt want to upgrade to the latest patch (4.09m) as shown in the Guide.

Thanks,

I had one or two graphics issues to sort out to get that lovely perfect water which is one of the main things that attracted me to it to be honest! i crashed my first takeoff cos the rudder thing took me so much by surprise! haha! oh well, il learn! best way to learn i think is to just get flying! so thats wat im off to do now! and il check out that guide at some point...it seems a bit long for someone who's had the game a few weeks any only just got it running...i wanna fly!!

If you are struggling with takeoff, note that you can lock the tailwheel (mine is set to 'T' key, I think this may not be the default), this helps a lot - unlock it before landing though. Alternately, you could try the P-38 - with contra-rotating props, you don't get the torque problems.

Mostly though, it just takes practice...

Hi tbone,

could you please describe the settings you use to make il2 run on OGL for mobility HD 4570? I have the same card (running on XP SP3 though)and the only way I can play is on DX, on OGL is just a 1 fps slideshow.

This sounds like a separate issue, please start a new thread, post you conf.ini and a dxdiag report in the new thread and we'll get you set up.

Got the same card here in my Laptop and the game runs perfect under OpenGL.
