How many of you guys are in touch with the squadrons you are representing if you are representing a real squadron? I think that it is important that we let these brothers know how much thier sacrifices mean to us. If you havent been in touch with the squad you are representing you should do so immediately. Most of them have webites. Most of you have probably done this already but just in case you havent.... they need to know what they mean to us before they are all gone. I am talking German,Polish,Russian,Japanese,British,American... whatever. Especially a lot of the German fiers. Sure.. they were the enemy... the "bad guys".. but if they can meet with thier former adversaries and shake hands in the spirit of comraderie then they deserve to be reached out to by us as well. Many of them were just caught up in the times.. not subscribing to the whole ideology of thier governments... especially the fliers. I know there are several American groups representing German squads.... I am hoping that there will be several American groups representing Japanese squads as well. We need to shake that tree and see what falls out. For us this is more than just a hobby or a game........or else we wouldn't have taken the time and made the effort to create squadrons and do what we do. We need to consider trying to tie it all together and look at the bigger picture.. of not only having fun but taking this thing we do that we are all so passionate about to the next level. That is creating a legacy of history so that in the future WW2 simmers will not look at it as just "a game" but the will know and understand the history.. the struggle.. the turning point in human history that was WW2. So post back here and tell me how it is going. Keep the memory alive gents. These men are dieing at an alarming rate.. and soon they will be gone.

VC-81 is based on the escort carrier USS Natoma Bay (CVE-62) and we have been in close touch with the actual pilots and crew of VC-81 and the Natoma Bay. Our CO attended their reunion in Texas last September. Some of the veterans help out with technincal details and the web site pictures were donated by these fine men as well. I wanted to add my note to this thread; I have been in touch with the current CO of VMFA-115. I went to several reunions for this Squadron over the last couple of years. I had the complete honor of meeting several pilots and Mechanics and call them friends, from over the years this unit has been in service. I also had the pleasure of being part of this unit from 1986 to 1989 as a powerline Mechanic. I have no plans on building a VMF-115 unit for PF. Just wanted to put my two cents in. We had our 60th anniversary last year at MCAS Beaufort and had an awesome time. Good luck to all.
P.S God Speed past, present and Future Silvereagles Thank you and SEMPER FI to all who served under Joe and his Jokers! |

<S> all. I am the C/O of the 353rd Fighter Group. We are lucky enough to have one of the original WWII pilots that flies with us each night. Monroe Q. Williams flew the P-51 and P-47 with the 353rd FG over Europe. We try to keep in touch with some of the historical sites, but seem to have better luck with the original members. It is nice to remind them how much they mean to us and how much we appreciate what they did for us. Lt. Col. Williams blesses us with his presence every night, and if you see him, please salute him. Look forward to winging you in the blue. <S>
www.353rdfightergroup.com Come see us. This message has been edited. Last edited by: JUANT2, I have come to the conclusion that I shall not expect anything out of the ordinary from people, so when someone does something above and beyond the norm, I am pleasantly surprised...DGW |

This is a great thread... I hope to keep it going and eventually be able to direct many of the squadrons represented here to this page via email just so they know that they are not forgotten.

I thought it important to have the permission of the vets of the 361st FG before using their name. I have been in close contact with those still with us and have done a few things for them. I feel it is a great honor to give back to all of these wonderful and brave men in any way we can.

Well, when the 69th Gv.IAP was first formed in Aug 2003, the original CO didn't know if there was a real life 69th, but after a little digging he found some references about the Regiment during the GPW. Since I joined the squad I have been trying to research the Regiment's history over the past year, and I've found it incredibly tough going. But I have made one or two small breakthroughs.
I have not attempted to contact any of the pilots from the WWII Regiment, as most of the names I have come across and found details on, these pilots died either during the war, or fairly soon after. But I do hope to find details of pilots/personnel of the Regiment who may still be alive and who may appreciate what we do here. But many Soviet regiments in the VVS have rather shrouded pasts and are very difficult to track, seemingly especially the 69th!! Whit ye looking at, ya big jessie?!?! Za Rodinu! |

We're in touch with our squad. I think they are busy training right now. Had offers for discounts on their merchandise (ie coffe mugs, squad patches, shirts, zippos) for 10% off which is the "Fist" discount, since we are "Fisties".

Being the CO of the 352ndFG, I have been in touch with the real 352ndFG Association and was invited to their reunion in Savannah in October of this year. Great bunch of guys and real heroes. They embraced us and what we do and have endorsed us to fly their colors and missions in Il2 and PF. I'm in contact with them on a routine basis. We recently had the son of one of the 352ndFG pilots become one of our members and his Dad is getting set to join us for an evening of recollections of what it was like in England during his stay at Bodney.

When I commanded the 325th Checkertails in Aces High, I got in contact with Art Fiedler, who flew P-51s. Stream14 is now the CO and came over to IL-2 (325th Server).
