Hi all,

Like the topic says, I have nothing to recommend me. I'm a soon-to-be 23 year old from Portugal (GMT +0), and I can't dedicate myself seriously to flying online because of real-life demands (I take university very seriously). This means I will probably be gone for months at a time, and cannot be trusted to show up on a regular basis, but rather in "surprise" spurts here and there. I also don't have "the full kit", I'm currently running 46 on a low-end laptop with a Logitech Attack 3 joystick, and I plan on getting a headset so I can use TS/Ventrillo decently. No Track-IR and no rudder pedals at this point.

On top of all this, I am also a rather rookie pilot. So, like I said, nothing to recommend me, except not being a "kiddie" and being serious, mature and humble: will gladly follow orders while in the skies.

I am looking for rather specific squadron characteristics:
- Full realism as much as possible (except No Instant Success!Wink)
- Mainly Allies (RAF, anything USA, mostly, eastern front isn't so interesting for me)
- Semi-military "regime", ranks, medals, training.
- Easy to find online at GMT +0 most days, even if not for "official flights"
- Online campaigns
- Cooperative play, which I guess must be "standard" for squadrons: flying in formation, wingmen, etc. No "lone-wolfing".
- 10+ regular members. Would prefer this to flying with just 2 or 3 blokes.

I guess, to sum it up, I just want to meet up with a serious, possibly historical squadron who will accept a very part-time member. I don't even need to be in the squad, I'd just like to meet and befriend a group of folks I get to fly with when I manage to show up.

Thank you for your time reading this. I know it's a bit long, but I wanted to make sure I say exactly what I'm able to do. So, I'm probably the worst applicant ever here, any takers? Wink

Salute Anvilfolk

Well, it looks like RAF74 would fit you perfectly, except we are not your timezone.

So unless you can fly at 2am GMT, you probably would want to look elsewhere. Consider "European Air Force", (EAF)

Here is RAF74's info anyway:

RAF74 is recruiting for our new Online Campaign, "BIG WEEK".

"BIG WEEK" is a 65th anniversary recreation of the epic battle between the USAAF 8th Air Force and the Luftwaffe in February of 1944.

RAF74 is an American, Canadian and Australian based RAF Squadron. We fly at 9pm EST United States time, which is 9pm (London)GMT -5 hours. Ie. we fly at 2:00 AM British time. So unless you can stay up late, you may want to consider a European based Squadron.

We are a democratic Squadron, all Staff members are elected.

RAF74's homepage can be found here:

Hi!

Thank you so much for your reply.

Considering flights start at 2am, and that they must take some time, it might be a little too complicated indeed.

I had not come across EAF yet, so thank you for that too. I will be looking into them!

Salute

Hi, and thanks Crash.

It sounds interesting, although there isn't a whole lot of information on DD. But given my situation, I don't think I can ask for a lot more than a "laid back" outfit Smile How do you guys fly? Formations, any hierarchy/orders/promotions?

I am rather into those kinds of things Smile

Thanks again for any info you can give Smile

Well we start the evening with a free for all dogfight session, then move on to a very varied co-op session. We are also doing a SEOW with 69Giap and plan to do a Mediteranian campaigne in the spring Smile Join the forum and BG will supply more info Cool
Having re-read your first post 69GIAP might suit better.

Without proper air support Irina may not survive her next sniping mission.

There are thousands of women like Irina, struggling against the fascist invaders, all in need of a helping hand from brave VVS pilots.

Please give your time generously.

After reading a bit more about DD, it does seem like it's not quite what I'm looking for! But thank you anyway Smile

The GIAP, aside from making a very convincing case Wink, do seem to be more like it. I have contacted the EAF and am awaiting reply. They fly the western Ally planes, but will definitely look more into the GIAP too!

Thanks, Shura!

Hi, Propulsion!

Thanks for the USN proposition - I had already checked it out! However, being European it's rather hard to engage in transatlantic flights Smile Your campaigns start at around midnight here, and with work in the morning and typically very scarce sleeping hours to begin with, I can't really afford to consider it!

I appreciate it though! Thanks! Smile

I'm actually a bit overwhelmed. Most squad sites state that one should be available for the most squadron activities, but the response to someone whose availability is really lacking has been amazing. Thank, you all Smile

Please take time to check out The Tempest Union by clicking on my sig pic.
As with most squads, fill in or Substitute pilots can be a valuable asset.
Love to have you aboard, we are US based but have several active European Flyers.
Check out our recruitment thread, on this page.

Thanks RMcSlash! I just looked around the TTU's place on the net, and you guys seem top notch Smile

I couldn't find any regular meeting times, and this is really a rather critical issue for me. In any case, I'd already contacted the EAF yesterday and will be trying to fly as a guest there for awhile, see how it goes.

Thank you all for the terribly warm welcome, I wasn't expecting all this for sure! And I do hope to see you all in the skies from time to time!

Heheheh! Sorry about that!

I loved your post so much that I searched for all your previous ones in hopes of finding for similar stuff. Sure enough, there they were! And all of them as great as this one! Your page also contains some pretty hilarious stuff!

The only real downside for me was your "theme", or theatre of operation. Other than that, you seem perfect Smile I don't usually find a lot of online servers where I prefer to play having ETO missions, and for now, I'd prefer getting to know the "wester allies'" planes.

But hey, we never know! I do hope we cross paths again sometime, and I'll keep an eye out for any GIAP tags around HL!

C! Smile

Hello there,

I am currently mostly grounded due coursework, and I am so tired I don't have enough situational awareness to find my bed, let alone pilot a fighter successfully!

I have talked to some of EAF, who have been helpful. I have been attempting to give them a try (and them me, I guess, what with my very reduced availability) for awhile now, but I never seem to find the time for their squad nights.

However, thank you for your message, and I'll be sure to say hello anyway if I ever spot you somewhere!

I do believe I had already checked your old site out, so let me congratulate you on your new one! It looks much more professional and serious now.

Hi Anvilfolk

I know what you mean about RL, it affects us all Smile

At least with EAF you'll get an idea of what 'Squad' life is like and if you want to try us out, we're here. I don't know what EAF's squad nights are but I think you know ours are Wed and Sun.

Anyway, good luck, and still hope to see you sometime.
