I would love to know if any full-switch Japanese virtual squadrons are interested in getting into some very immersive and historical SEOW dynamic campaigns.

Well looks like those who enjoy flying in a Japanese squadron are a very small minority.
Guess the allies are going to have to fight amongst themselves.
Very rare are Japanese squadrons in the eastern time zone. Guess it is like in reality totally out numbered Sad

Well it's almost natural....Tough to get real good info as much of it is in Japanese, also not many like flying what are basically fragile planes that are way over matched.....You have to like the challenge of it Wink2

G'day from Oz.

Do you guys in the 78th and 200th fly full switch? and am I correct in assuming that you'd be flying in roughly the same time zones as us? If so, it would good to fly with or against you, probably under the aegis of one of Hitchers Scorched Earth Extreme campaigns.

78th will fly full switch without a problem, and we've considered flying some of the events out there yet all of us are adults with real lives and cannot commit to long term events that "require" mandatory attendance especially by the entire squadron.

What WON'T fly with us are events in which there is rediculous spats (good place to check this are forums) and in kind that are set up with assured losses.........Now that sounds rather vague yet is not. R/L the Japanese come the latter part of the war were clearly outmatched in weapons and planes as well as numbers. That's great, is real life and fun to fly on occasion or in Coops. Yet to join in a competition where you're assured a crushing loss simply due to how it's set up......Well, that doesn't make for a fun event to put a lot of effort into.

Unfortunately planes available alone often dictates that...A20's & B-25's dogfighting along with the fighters when your closest match is the G4M just makes for little fun. Single mission events are kewl, so are varied coops, yet long drawn out wars playing the role of "target drone" is not my idea of how to spend every bit of my free time Wink2 Also, we have tried in the past and quite simply been left hanging having to make up our forces from numerous groups, so either half don't show or often those that do simply fly off doing what they want not flying as a team. That's little fun as well so requires other groups/individuals to be as commited as you.

Anywho, as it stands now though we have a good number in the squadron with summer folks are scattered a bit. May start looking into it again though in August or there abouts.

U.S. late evening time zones for 95% of us the norm though.

Yes, I can understand where your comming from. Am middle aged, with a young family and its associated commitments. Mandatory squadron attendance leaves me cold (I don't take orders well) and is probably the main reason I'm with one of the smaller, more flexible, layback Australian units.

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the "aerial quake" in most dogfight servers. To me, it just seems too unrealistic, where all the combat is deliberately concentrated in one particular area. It limits the options for controllable combat encounters and disregards other factors such as aircraft range or pilot caution or patience. Elements of suprise and ambush are somewhat negated, with the fight turning into a "conga line" and the enivitable *****ing about kill stealing, etc. etc. Nope, I like the larger map scenarios.

Yes the Japanese were overmatched in the mid to late war period and always outnumbered. Going up in a Zero, against Corsairs and Hellcats with twice the horsepower, wouldn't have been pretty. Mind you, the comments and record (from Osprey) of that superb Navy pilot , Lt Tetsuzo Iwamoto are facinating. That said, the Japanese machines are fun to fly, good in the right hands and offer unique challenges.

Hitcher, if your reading, am I correct in assuming that Brandle is still going ahead with the 1942 series of campaigns and has a Pacific encounter in mind? Presumably, the New Guinea map with a stricly 42 or earlier plane set. Maybe it would be good to get the 78th or 200th's input on it.

Also, I'd like to explore the "Commanders Edition" suggestion I made in the SEX "development forums" on your site. Prior to flying, each participant (leader) spends a few minutes plotting their mission flight path, we then build the mission and fly it straight away. I think the turn around times are pretty quick now. That way, using a rough schedule of when someone is available to host, whenever a sufficent number of pilots showup, we can quickly organise things and get it underway.

Anyway, nice to talk to you and catch you later.

Regards, Warg

Same here, I have no problems with full switch, fly that mainly, but depending on where the people are it can get difficult to fly. At the moment am in contact with a bunch of people from Europe but due to the time differance, flying is mainly only on weekends. There where some folks here in the eastern time zone that had an interest and it worked for a few months, but when people start to stop showing up, and co ops or training nights turn out to be squadrons of one or two it sort of peters out.
Totally agree those dogfight furballs are ugh!!
As they only end in the usuall squabbels. Also small maps make bombers just to cheap targets.
There are such nice large maps available in the game but only small fractions are used which is a shame. Need to just think if one used the New Genea map like mentioned in Suburo Sakais book Samurai, one would have a fairly large area to cover. And not just dead on in on one route furball, either dead, or back again refly and off to the next furball. Which I find makes the game rather boring.
Hope there are some more out here that like more than just furballs, who fly Japanese?

UK dedicated servers have several pacific maps in rotation. UKded maps are mission oriented, and a fair number of people fly bombers. Good regulars tend to fly fighter escort if requested by bombing regulars.

There are some Pacific map junkies in the UK dedicated 1 community (UK1 server = cockpit off, UK2 server = cockpit on with externals enabled, UK3 = full switch). Once you know which admins are pacific map junkies Wink , you can always request them to bring up those maps. Not everyone cares Japanese planes, and map changes are always a balancing act depending on how many and who are playing on the server.

From time to time, we could find a large number of players in pacific maps in the US time zones. On Thursday night, we saw rather firce 6 x 6 combat in NewGuinia map (A6M5, Ki61, Ki43 vs F4U, P40, A20 etc.) On Friday night, more than 30 plaers were fighting in the Mariana map, blue team with A6M5, Ki61 etc. and red team with F6F, SBD etc. Last night, we had about 15 players when I changed the map to Okinawa (A6, J2, Ki84, N1 vs. P38, P47, P51 etc.) I ended up in the wrong side (red) and my P51 was shot down repeatedly by skilled blue pilots. bow All these pacific maps feature G4 bombers for the blue team.

Sorry to jump in at the tail end of this.
I understand there is a shortage of Japanese squadrons/pilots who wish to fly Japanese aircraft.
As it turns out, I live in Osaka and would be very keen to fly Japanese aircraft with a group based in Japan/East Asia.
I would very much appreciate hearing of any opportunities to do so.
