A forum would be a good idea but most Publishers and Games Developers have a vast amount of creative staff that come up with game ideas. There are some very talented people in our Community that come up with some really great ideas but they are not fleshed out enough to be viewed as a full game. This is not to say that Developers never look at the community for ideas but the amount of ideas can be truly mind blowing and, in reality, many of these ideas are just too grand for games. Especially when it comes to time, money and technology.
Most Developers really don't have the time to search the internet for ideas posted on a forum and even if amazing ideas could be forwarded to them, it is not just a simple process of "Have an idea, Make a game" coming up with a workable game can take a long time. Just coming up with basic games concepts does not really make it possible to make it into a game. Design Documents can be hundreds of pages long and can take months and months to proofread and collate. If people have a really good idea, just post it here in the General Forum and get all of the Community Feedback you need. |

the ideas do not necessarily have to be whole game ideas.
the ideas can be a lot smaller and used for current or future projects, like for example: having the players gun collide with world geometry. i think ideas like this are the most useful for developers. |

Mysterious Mr M, please refer to my earlier posts in this thread about the potential legal minefield which is using unsolicited ideas in games.

Real statistics? So you've got access to this data and have reviewed it? Are they the same statistics that say people dont want support or DLC? I would ask you to prove that these statistics and facts that you so often mention support what youre saying but then youll probably just tell us its against policy to do so.

Yes I've got the stats of exactly how many people play our games and no, I'm not going to share them with you. I can see where you're trying to go with the DLC/patch comment and I'll have to refer you back to my earlier posts when research comes around. Everyone online will want patches and DLC for their favourite games, that's a given, but if the numbers aren't there (as supported through our research) then we need to make a business decision about whether or not to do that. It could be that all one hundred people on your Xbox Live Friends List want a patch to fix a bug in a game but they're in the minority as no-one else cares about that, in this case it's a business decision not to make a patch for it. It costs a lot to release a patch and sometimes it's not worthwhile.
Now, I know you're going to take this comment and try to apply it to specific Ubisoft games but I'm not going to comment on specific titles and whether or not they 'should get a patch'. Like I said earlier, there are business reasons for everything we do and that's backed up by a lot of research. If we're not doing something (whether it be a sequel, a patch, DLC, whatever), there's going to be a good business reason behind it. |

I understand but thats the problem.I wont mention specific games. The problem is that too many games are coming out unfinished with little to no support to fix problems that they are very much aware of. As well as little to no interaction between Devs and their communities. There should be no reason business or otherwise to not give the customers what they are paying for by fixing a buggy game or releasing DLC.The lack of DLC is understandable to an extent but when you have several big title games out with no real DLC between them its a bit rediculous to see new games coming out that dont have half the community they do yet the new title games get DLC left and right.I hate to bring up COD games but they are perfect examples. They do everything Ubisoft refuses to do and as a result they are stealing a ton of gamers away from Ubi titles. They listen and know what fans want.Which is why there are real patches and DLC for the COD games. They continue to support COD4 to this day with MW2 coming out shortly.

"Whitenight"
you have hit some interesting points, so why don't ubisoft put a poll on the web site asking people if they like the 3RD person view or the first person view, I like the first person, 3rd view its like been a parrot I don’t tend to go for them games, at all. also why is there no demos, why don’t ubi put a demo down load links before the game comes out and ask them to fill a demo review form out on playability, gfx, other. To get the feed back. I did like the view of the game Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six I think that’s the way forward first person but when u hide behind any think it turns to 3 person that was better I think |

because a website is generally only accessed by a small portion of the actual user base. |

It doesnt matter, atleast its something. If everyone thinks about it like that then whats the point of Community Developers coming and asking questions on the forums for Ghost Recon. Those questions might as well be just as pointless.A poll is basically the same thing just a different method.Although a poll might not be the best way to get that kind of feedback there should atleast be some form of interaction with the R6 community, which for the past couple years has been non existent. |

Firms take their feedback from a lot more sources than just the official forum as the official sites only account for a small minority, a lot of developers will get information on what people want from multiple sources including the normally much larger fan site's, focus groups, e-mails, mod's made to the game and their popularity and gaming conventions.
so what your saying here does have a point but there is a much larger range of people away from the official site who they also interact with and they will stick with the majority across all these sources and not just the opinions of the minority who come to the official game site. |
|||
|
I understand that but it doesnt change what you said, which basically made it seem pointless to do such a thing. Its just as pointless as the questions they ask then.

I'm not sure anyone is saying it’s pointless, perhaps more to the point it wouldn’t be any better than the current methods of collecting feedback which then begs the question what would be gained?
Cas is quite right that we do collect from a large multitude of sources, and any such poll would only garner views from a small portion of the community. The real problem then is the results would lead that community to believe the results represent the entire community within that game which they wouldn’t and then we'd have a great deal of trouble explaining that, especially when they would feel the poll results were all the evidence they needed to show their point. |

Im making my games, sort of in a very simple beginner program. And i was playing a Rayman Raving Rabbids TV Party on my mobile, and i thought: "Hey I can make this". Than i thought like the second part, or whatever, add some more types of rabbids, mini games etc. Its not that hard. I usualy do all, spriting, music, animation, codes, design, whatever it needs, only sometimes I do a team project with my friends.
I was wondering how could i send them a message of any kind so i can get the rights (if needed) to make it? I made some games, and posted them on the internet long time ago, and the 2 games posted are like my first and second game, i didnt finish the other cuz they were impossible for the program or i couldnt find time for them. I made this basic, simple website on freewebs, just to have a website, here is the website: Fire Rings Design <--- LINK TO THE GAMES I MADE. They are nothing special, they are 2D becaouse 3D games require more time which i dont have (High School = 07:35-15:45 + Homework (which take time cuz im a designer, so draw, draw, draw...)+Study.) So i have very little time. The program im working in is Game Maker, and its a very simple tool, and you will quickly make your own game. PS: I would like that Ubisoft opens their studio in Serbia(Europe), becaouse we have many people here that would like to work in it (Me too xD ). Dont forget to check out my games. |

Instead of sending your game ideas to Ubi, you can now make them yourself by grabbing the free Unreal 3 Developer's Kit from Epic. You can make games to give away or even sell (there are conditions for that included) should you so desire.
