I've installed AC, however upon trying to run it it goes into some sort of auto patch program and I get the following message after it tries to download:
Trying to get update information to C:\DOCUME~1\Dave\LOCALS~1\Temp\ubi582.tmp. Found update (Patch, all, all). Trying to download update file from http://patches.ubi.com/assassins_creed/assassins_creed_1.02.exe. Destination: C:\DOCUME~1\Dave\LOCALS~1\Temp\ubi584.tmp.exe. Successfully downloaded update file. Could not open downloaded file. Impossible to verify file's integrity. Unable to delete file: C:\DOCUME~1\Dave\LOCALS~1\Temp\ubi584.tmp.exe. now I've gone to various websites and tried to download the patch that way and it says it installs but then the game doesn't run at all, So I'm really lost as to whats going on any help would be appreciated. Thanks |

all I can sugest is download the patch from the link in the info you posted. put the patch in the game folder then run it. if the patch works but you cant start the game you are most likly using a modified exe and they dont patch so the game wont run with the out of date exe's.

You could try re-downloading the patch again from that link you posted to get a fresh copy of the patch file, as it seems like perhaps you got a corrupted download as you say it does not open for you.
Also, you can try to bypass the "auto update" thingy that starts up by disconnecting your internet connecting before starting the game. If it does not detect a current internet connection, then it bypasses the update part and should then proceed to launch the game (at least it does for me on my computer). Actually, the game seems to run smoother for me when I disable all background programs and disconnect from the internet before starting the game. Good luck. |

Are you using Internet Explorer? It's possible it may have been compromised.
Switch to a safer browser like Mozilla's firefox, which has a much better download manager than IE. Make sure your antivirus is up to date. Also, use Spybot and adaware (both available from download.com) to ensure your system is free from malware. You'll probably have to do a clean reinstall of the game too, so uninstall, delete everything "ubi" from your registry. Make sure you back up your registry, and game saves first - as any ubi games will need to be reinstalled. Download the patch, install the game, reboot, install the patch, reboot (the reboots probably aren't necessary, but it depends on how temperamental your system can be.) To bypass the autopatcher, simply go into your install dir. (Default C:/Program Files/Ubisoft/Assassins Creeed) and run either "AssassinsCreed_DX9" or "AssassinsCreed_DX10" If you think your sys is up to it and you have a DX10 card. |

First things first, are you currently running the patch process while logged in under an administrator account? Have you temporarily disabled your anti-virus and other programs that employ "real-time file scanning" during the patch installation?
Second, how did you purchase your game? Is it the retail boxed copy available on store shelves or did you purchase it via digital download (Steam, Direct2Drive, UbiSoft store, etc.)? The reason I ask is that different versions of the game tend to require different versions of a patch. The retail version is typically patched by downloading a file and running an executable, while the Steam version should auto-update via the Steam client itself. Direct2Drive versions are typically "custom patched" by that particular distributor. In any case, it can vary so you'll want to affirm you're attempting to install the "right" patch for your installation. Finally, does your installation of AC include any hacks, cracks, or other unauthorized modifications of any sort? These will certainly interfere with patches and other official game updates as they often modify the game executable and other associated files. I have to ask... is this a warez, or otherwise illegally distributed, version of the game? If not, was it purchased from a reputable dealer? |
