I've just started playing Assassins creed and it's a great game but I'm getting this weird graphics tearing thing. Picture below



Any help on fixing this would be appreciated. I'm sure its not my pc i've got an 8800gtx etc. And i'm running it on xp. You can clearly see it on the sword

You didn't mention if you installed the 1.02 patch, if not maybe you should try it.
Check that you have the 3D settings in nVidia control panel set to not override application settings (so: application controlled).
Try a lower resoltion to see if it still happens
Try with vSync on/off
Just a few suggestions.

I did several different suggestions so please don't answer "i tried that", it's unclear which one you mean and if you have/have not installed the patch.

Anyway, many GF cards are factory overclocked, see if lowering the mem speed helps, as it fixed graphical issues for a lot of GF 8xxx / 9xxx card users. You can use nforce system tools 6.00 for that.
You could also try the 177.89 drivers from this page (scroll to the download section at bottom of page).

Ambiguity sucks, cypnv1985. We're giving you specific help but you're giving us ambiguous answers. We have virtually no idea if our suggestions are actually helping.

It is VERY IMPORTANT that your Nvidia Control Panel is set so that nothing overrides in-game settings. Many owners of Assassin's Creed for PC have noted that forcing settings through the Nvidia Control Panel causes many problems.

    Sorry if things were unclear. I tried all the suggestions Nero suggested and they didn't seem to work. I'm 100% sure my gpu isn't overclocked but I'll try lowering the clock speeds/mem and see if that works. And the first thing I thought of when I saw this was to update my drivers but I will try the ones you have recommended and report back with any news.

    I find that running the game in DX9 makes better performance. Then again, I'm using a DX10 hack for Windows XP because I got rid of Vista (took too much space IMO).

    Drivers seemed to fix it. neil would you mind posting a link to that xp dx10 hack I got rid of vista for the same reason and I saw no real benefit over xp.

    DX10 for XP hack is actualy terrible as the majority of DX10 is built into the vista base code so the XP version is a stripped down version that will lower your preformance but give no were near the full graphics increase vista does.

    in the long run I would strongly recormend against the XP version as it is actualy more likly to give more problems than anything else.

    caswallawn_2k7 actually has a point. Most DX10 games won't work on Vista XP with the DX10 hack installed. Strangely enough, Microsoft's Halo 2 runs nicely on the DX10 for Windows XP hack. At least for me. Confused <-- confused

  • Even for a flop on pc i got to admit that the vision of the artist(s) for Vegas is beyond speech. What i am seeing in game now is by far the best i have seen in any other game for realism. (coding) was the problem.
  • For a community that had potential to help YOU(UBI) they are the ones lurking in the shadows waiting for something better and you refuse to help. Even yourself.? This I don't understand.
  • Release some tools to the pc community for an over all better RaInbow 6 division.
