Guys... I think i have pinpointed the problem. Earlier i began to get suspicious of my soundcard casuing the problem so i disabled it and enabled on board sound and got latest drivers for it. I ran Assassins Creed and got to play for a good while. Hell, i even got to close it myself Wink So i think that is the prooblem, i will try different drivers for the creative card and test them. The ones i was using were beta drivers. I will confirm once the problem has been solved Big Grin, what a fotunate turn of events ^^

Still, install 175.19.
From X-Fi back to onboard sound is no win. What model X-Fi exactly is it?

And defragment, Diskeeper Lite (freeware)

Ugh... Drivers drive me mad. When i uninstall the creative drivers i restart and then use driversweeper. I then start the installation of the new drivers and it says "setup has found newer version of drivers on your system" buti continue with install then restart but the computer still doesnt recognise the drivers. "No audio device found" it says and in device manager it has the ! beside it.

Why cant they just uninstall properly -.-.

How can i completely eradicate the creative drivers, i used both driver sweeper and driver cleaner pro.

Umm... first install the drivers from the CD you got with the card. Then install the downloaded drivers over it. (in XP it requires previous drivers installed)

After playing on the on board sound it crashed aswell... Twice. But it was a different "Assassins Creed has encountered a problem" crash, which is another problem which needs to be fixed even if i get this soundcard issue sorted.

Overclocked your system, or running at stock now?

Have you tried the X-Fi into another slot? I experienced the wierdest problems when i had my X-Fi in an apparently 'wrong' slot on my Maximus Formula. It's perfectly happy in the bottom slot.

I am running at stock at the minute, earlier i was overclocking my system as a test but now its back to stock. Could that cause instability now?

And my X-Fi was changed into a different slot to solve the IRQ problem but it didnt fix it. If i move it into any other slot something shares with the graphics card

Yeah sorry i read on page 1 you already tried that.
No antivirus running on the background?

Can you find related error logs in right-click This Computer > Manage > Logs > System?

Oh, btw after you updated (corrected) your X-Fi, i would suggest to uninstall / reboot PC / reinstall Assassin's Creed, just for the sake of it.
Your current DARE.INI file, what does it say, could you post it?

I never got all these BSODS earlier before i changed my soundcard driver. When i did change the drivers they appeared. At the same time i also updated my video card drivers. Now even when i disable my X Fi and enable on board sound i still get BSODs, could the problem have no shifted to the graphics driver as I suspected in the first place?
I am also wondering if the time i got to play assassins creed after disabling the x fi and enabing on board just a stroke of luck? I feel i am going back to square one here.
Here is the DARE.ini as asked.

[Renderer DS3D Options]
DS3D_CACHE_SIZE=2097152
NO_OPTIMISATION_SOUND_CARDS=
DISABLE_OPTIMISATION=FALSE
[Sound Manager Options]
NB_AUDIBLE_VOICES=48

As usual, those error reports are not very informative to us humans. Frown

I have the feeling it is caused by the Creative beta driver and Driversweeper.
Only one missing DX-related file is enough to crash the whole system.
You could try to completely uninstall the Creative X-Fi (disable antivirus- and systemprotection programs via msconfig!)

1. Uninstall Creative drivers through the control panel -> add/remove programs

2. Reboot into safe mode (press F8 at boot)

3. Enable show hidden devices

4. Open a command window with admin privileges
-Run these commands from a command prompt:
set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1
start devmgmt.msc

5. Uninstall all audio adapters listed (present or non-present/hidden - they appear slightly faded); make sure to check the box to remove driver files if possible

6. Turn off PC, take out the X-Fi

7. Reboot normally. Let windows finish finding new hardware

8. Power down and plug in the X-Fi card

9. Boot and let windows finish finding new hardware

10. Defragment

11. Install the Creative drivers from the CD

12. Install the updated drivers you downloaded

I hope this helps.
