The Pentium 4 CPU's do not contain two processors, despite Windows detecting them and treating them as such. Later CPU's in the Pentium 4 product line contain a technology called Hyperthreading (or HT for short). This tech effectively "breaks up" the Pentium 4 processor into two logical CPUs, although there is really only one processing core. The reason for doing this is to exploit any "idle" CPU cycles that could be put to use when running multi-threaded applications or processes.

Generally speaking, an up to 25% performance increase can be seen with Hyperthreading enabled on a Pentium 4 CPU when a multi-threaded application is being run. On average, the benefit is more in the vacinity of 10-12% under these conditions. id softwares Quake IV is a good example of how Hyperthreading can be effectively used in a real-world game to garner a performance increase. However, single-threaded apps will gain no benefit from Hyperthreading and can actually suffer slight performance loss due to overhead.

In regards to Assassins Creed, any Pentium 4 processor (including those with Hyperthreading) should be considered below the minimum system requirements for the game, as they are not true dual-core processors. That said, I am currently running the game on a Pentium 4 HT processor (3.0Ghz) and getting a fairly decent experience out of it at 1024x768, Medium settings. The frame rate is usually around 30 or so, but can dip into the low 20's causing slowdowns in the action at times. However, the game is still fairly playable on this machine which also includes a 7800GS 256MB video card and 2GB of RAM.

It kind of did, it deffently explaned the 2 cpu's thing for sure. Many thanks for takeing the time to reply to me.
Now I got another for ya..

I contacted ubsoft about the issue as well,and the response I got says I should be able to play the game.
They told me to do a number of things,which I'm fixing to try out.
I also get this error message while trying to start Assassin's Creed:
Trying to get update information to È‘|Ðÿ.
Failed to download the update information.
Fatal download error: 23
Update service cannot continue.
Unable to delete file: È‘|Ðÿ.

I dunno if that tells you anything or not though,as it's all gibberish to me.

Ideas, Input ?

When running Assassins Creed (for presumably the first time) it looks like the game is trying to update itself with the latest patch. That is, the game contains software that goes out to the internet and attempts to download and install the patch. From the error you posted, it looks like this is failing for some reason or another.

I know you said it's all gibberish to you, but a basic understanding of Windows and its workings will be necessary to attempt to remedy the problem. If you feel uncomfortable with this, I'd suggest getting assistance from a friend or family member to help you carry out the possible resolutions.

If I had to take a guess, I'd say that the patch is failing to download and install due to one or more of the following:

1. You are not logged into Windows under an administrator account. When installing or updating software, this is usually critical. Log into Windows under an administrator account and retry.

2. A program that utilizes "real-time file scanning", such as anti-virus or anti-spyware software, is running during the patch download/installation. Depending on the specific settings, these may be preventing the patch from downloading and being applied to the game. It may be necessary to temporarily disable these applications when running Assassins Creed for the first time so that the patch can download and install.

3. A setting on your firewall (hardware and/or software based) is preventing the patch from downloading and installing. You may need to create an exception in the firewall for Assassins Creed to download and install the patch. Alternatively, you could temporarily disable your firewall(s) while the patch is downloaded and installed.

If all else fails, you could bypass the automatic patch download/installation and do it manually. How did you purchase your copy of Assassins Creed? Did you buy the boxed copy at a store or did you purchase a digital download version (Steam, Direct2Drive, Ubi Store, etc.)? Where you bought it from will determine which "type" of patch you need to install and most importantly, where to obtain it from.

You could bypass the "updater" part altogether and run the game directly by going into the Assasin's Creed game folder and running the "AssassinsCreed_Dx9.exe" file.

(Though if your computer has Vista Windows and with DirectX version 10 installed, then you would instead run the AssassinsCreed_Dx10.exe file.)

I bought the game in it's box. I don't like DLing games, with the exception of GW's Eye Of The North cause I couldn't get it in my local stores when it first came out.

Ubisoft tech isc saying that according to my DXDag that I can play AC.
So far I've updated my graphics card,and DX.
Right now I'm downloading the pat ch frpm the ubisoft site.
I'd guess that my anti is what is causing the problem with the auto instaler.
I do understand some things about the computer,but I so wouldn't have gotten that from looking at that message.

Thanks again.
We'll see how this all works out.
An I'll let ya'll know whats going on w/ it.
