Have no problems loading the game. When I click on the exe. from desk top it shows a quick window of update then no go.
The game simply won`t execute?

Any way to bypass the update screen?
Tried different drivers as well, to no avail.

I bought the game 3 hours ago. I installed it, tried to start it. Update > Square Title > Nothing.

In other words, the same problem.
But, I got it to work

1. Go to Program Files > Ubisoft > Assassin's Creed (Mainly: Your AC install directory)
2. As you can see, there are 4 .exe's in there, all saying "Game".
3. The Update-thing (the one with the different icon) is the one normally starting. This is just the auto-update. There should be 2 .exe's, saying "Assassin's Creed blah blah DIRX 9" and "Assassin's Creed blah blah DIRX 10".
Now, depending on your Direct X version (10 is only for Vista, 9 is probably the best for XP), choose either one of those. The game will start properly

If you want to, you can replace the desktop-shortcut with a shortcut leading to the "DIRX" .exe you are using, for a quick start.

I guess you will have to start the auto-updater once in a while, for up-to-date patches

I finally got it to boot. I used the exe. for DX9. The problem was earlier (this method wouldn`t work) that I couldn`t update DX because I had crypto enabled. Simple fix but it eluded me for a whole day.

The game looks amazing and runs fairly decent on my old P4 3.4 cpu, with 2 megs ram and NV 7600GT.

Yes thank you. The problem was, I couldn`t get it to start from either exe. Found out through dxdiag what the problem was. Fixed now.

I have a similar problem.

I purchase the game by direct download. Installed fine. Played once. Saved the game.

the next day when I tried to play it won't start. I get an error message that says:

"Assassins creed has stopped working"

Anybody know how to get it running??

Please help as I have had the game for nearly a week and can't play. Ubisoft can't seem to get it working.

there is another way if you re - install it on main administrator it should work hope that helped

I reinstalled Direct X from the AC disc, then booted from the DX9 exe. Works fine now.

The game is pretty good, although somewhat repetetive.

I also have the same problem, I try to start the game from the desktop icon and I just get the splash screen and then nothing.
I tried to run it from the DX9xxx.exe program but I have the same result.

Yea I have the same problem as tsalter79, I purchased the game 2 days ago, played it once, saved the game and went to play it the next day and i get the error message "Assassins creed has stopped working".

Now this confuses me, as after saving the game I immediately shut my pc down and nothing was altered between when i tried to launch the game the next day. This leads me to believe the problem is in the auto updater?

I have tried updating my directX, graphics, etc as well as launching from the dx9 and dx10 icons but still to no avail. I have been in contact with Ubisoft and hoping for a solution.

Anyone got any ideas?

guys i need help... My AC wont start. i click on the exe. and then when the loading screen shows up the game crashes after 97%... any suggestions before i have it refunded?

Try running game as administrator. Right click on AC icon in games folder.

yeha i know......... i just bought it today. it just has the start up which says "assassin's creed" then my desktop goes black for about 3 seconds and pop. back to normal.

That's a BUDGET ati video card. Bad choice to play video games (can your computer even run Mass Effect? Gears of War? Crysis?)

Your system is also lacking RAM (Vista users should have at least 3 gigs for gaming)

And your CPU does not meet minimum requirements (you need at least a dual-core)

Next time, read the game requirements on the box before buying the game.

1st off I'm NOT stupid. I know what the requirements are and I've seen others run it with out the dual core. I used to be able to start and run the game on a 128 card on this same pc but my frame rates were super low. Now I have a better card but I can't even start it. Well thanks for
