so i'm starting memory block 3, 20 seconds after I get into acre my entire system freezes and I have to do a hard reboot. I try again, same thing. I wait until the PC patch is released a few days ago. Same problem, I go to Jerusalem instead and do everything there with no problems. I go back to acre and crash at the same exact spot. any ideas?

i'm on a gigabyte ds3l-p35, q6600, 4 gigs corsair XMS2, radeon 1900xt 512mb, windows xp 64-bit.

I've also tried running this game on vista but I have even more problems there. The game runs perfectly fine except when I get into Acre so i'm at a loss on what to do.

Your system seems pretty solid, the only thing I could say is that your running a 64-bit OS, which is not directly supported. Most people don't have issues, but the box does say it may not be conmpatible with a 64-bit os. You may also want to run a stability test/check temperatures. Also if your checking how hot your whole system is running, make sure your looking at more than the GPU temperature because that's hardly ever the problem on account of the fact that GPU's can run at like 70-80c and be fine for a while. Not good, but it'll run that hot. Also try updating any drivers that you haven't looked for in a while. If you just bought that PC custom made it's rare to find a dealer that will update all of your components.

EDIT: How many watts is your PSU? You might not be pushing enough power to all your components. This isn't likely to be the problem but it's worth checking.

well the latest patch "added support for 64-bit systems".

I built this PC myself and I have all of the drivers updated, every other game runs fine (even the ones I had issues with on vista). There are no temp problems i'm pretty tech savvy with degrees and certs. Seeing as how the game works fine everywhere but acre I'm pretty sure its a bug in the game and nothing to do with my PSU or system in general, I think i'm going to try dual-booting 32-bit XP to see if that fixes it.

I just though I would check here to see if anyone else had a similar problem.

Did you run it with dx10 settings? Although dx10 is different it still uses some of the same files from dx9. You may want to look into that too.
People have problems concerning dx9/10 quite often in other games, most notably Bioshock. Probably not this issue but worth examining.

I have some minor issues in Acre from time to time as well. Just because it doesn't afflict everyone does not preclude the possibility it's a bug. There were new Radeon Drivers released in April, you could try updating them and increasing the size of your paging file. The latter made a large difference for me

well I've tried everything short of installing another OS (which I will do soon once i figure out how to repartition my drive without losing data, for some reason Norton partition magic isn't working)

Console ports are too much trouble.

Well I managed to "test" AC on 32-bit windows xp as well as vista, they ALL have the same freezing problem 10 - 20 seconds in the Acre zone, I give up until 1.03 or 1.04 patch >.<
