Hi, I'm experiencing some weird crashes while loading Assassin's Creed. So I googled and I found myself here. I got Assassin's Creed from Steam a couple of days ago(download version). But when I run the game everything go's smoothly untill the loading bar get's to 5-10%, my screen go's black and sometimes it says: Assasin's Creed has stopped working, Windows will notify you when a solution is availlable or my screen slowly fades to black and says power saving mode(this happens 90% of the time), after that my second screen go's black to. I've tried alt-tabbing, alt-ctrl-deleting my way out. Neither of those things help and I have to shut down my pc with the on button. It's not some sort of screen setting that it fades when I start a game because I've played cod4 cod5 all Splinter cell's and lots of other games, and this is the first time im experiencing this. I really don't know what to do, so please help me. This is my Dxdiag I ran:

Does this happen in both DX9 and DX10?

Yes it does. It just seem's to do it for no reason... but I whas thinking: because i'm using CrossFireX could it be the game is'nt compatible with it? http://game.amd.com/us-en/crossfirex_about.aspx If you don't know what it is, click the link.

CrossFireX and the Radeon HD 4800 were released after the software was published. Unfortunately I cannot support either products to work with the software.

The range of video cards I can support for Assassin's Creed are:

*Supported Video Cards at Time of Release:
ATI RADEON X1600* / 1650*-1950 / HD 2000 / 3000 series
NVIDIA GeForce 6800* / 7 / 8 / 9 series
*PCI Express only supported

Laptop versions of these cards may work but are NOT supported. These chipsets are the only ones that will run this game.

as for the person with the problem, if you think it may be crossfire if you go into the ATI controle pannle there should be an option to disable a card (singlle GPU mode) if that works crossfire is the problem and that is a quick fix to get round it.

another reason this could be happening is if you are using a screen that cant support the screen res/refreshrate the game wants to run at, if you are using a 1080i HDTV for example on the max settings it will only run at 30hz were the game will try to run at 60hz, a way to check for this is set it to a lower screen res say 720p since all 1080i TV's support 720p and it runs at 60hz.

Well, about the second option, the first 2 times and the only 2 times i could play AC it did have a flikkering screen in the beginning but after the white screen with the disclaimer i think it is it stopped and i had a normal gameplay. But I'm using the LG Flatron W2242S 22 inch and that go's up to 60hz, It even go's higher because i have played Call of Duty WaW at 79 HZ, stopped doing this doh because it may damage the screen hardware. About the first option, going to try it now.

Well whas worth taking the shot but it didnt work, also, it wont be the screen i think. Because I have a second screen Syncmaster 720N 17 inch wich go's up to (HxV) H: 81KHz and V: 75Hz. I also red that overclocking could stop the game from functioning well, so I turned my overclock off 2. Neither of those things helped! I've already downloaded the game 3 times now. So it isnt some flaw/error while downloading. The game just doesn't same to like my pc or the other way around. Do I qualify for a refund? since this whas a gift game from steam, the guy who bought me this should get his money back? Oh, and I build my pc myself, could that be a problem? I don't see how, but i whas thinking it just might.

out of interest try running the dx9 version of the game, go into the games install directory and run the file "asssassins creed dx9.exe" (or something similar) and see if the game loads that way.
